Shootings In Allentown

Over the weekend there was another shooting in Allentown. Funny thing about these shootings, in most of the cases, nobody knows nothing. Nobody hears, sees or says anything to help the police solve these crimes. However, let someone get pushed down by a police officer, then we have videos and testimony against police brutality.

The recent shooting was on 4th Street, but don't expect to see any advocacy groups protesting the violence, or the public's lack of cooperation.

  1. The libs in media don't care if blacks or spanish speakers stab or shoot each other. Its just life in the hood. It's not newsworthy unless a white man or any cop pulls the trigger.

  2. of course it is...who would think anything different? Doug, do you live downtown? I live very close and I'm not sure I agree. I know my wife definitely doesn't agree.

  3. Presumably the argument here is that residents living downtown are hypocrites because they protest police brutality while allegedly refusing to help police solve crimes.

The operative assumption is that the people who protest police brutality are the same ones who refuse to help police. This assumption has not been supported by any evidence contained in the post.

A police officer once told me that when a gang member is shot, the gang member often knows the shooter, but won't help police, preferring to seek retribution on his or her own. The same officer said that when neighbors see a shooting, they help police if they feel safe doing so.

  4. Re: Doug "perfectly safe comment.
My white friends who rave about the new restaurants and Elton John at PPL Center still only zoom in and out of Center City. They wouldnt be caught dead walking around there.

  5. My 'perfectly safe' comment was meant tongue in cheek.

I live in Minneapolis. Months ago a person was murdered in downtown Mpls. Our mayor told us it was 'perfectly safe', an aberration. About a month ago - four people were murdered in a weekend. Perfectly safe.

  8. I come from a law enforcement family from another city. Big city. I have a lot of respect for local cops and the judicial system. With the exception of a recent decision, I think DA Martin has done a very good job. I cannot understand, however, how we can't do a better job of rolling up the gangs here in the Valley. How many millions of dollars have been spent on the long-ago-established Rt. 222 anti-Gang task force. Sounds to me like a lot of paychecks, overtime, medals and promotions for very little results. I cannot believe then when they capture one of the thugs they can't tie him to gangs and then press his 'loved ones' to fess up or go down themselves for conspiracy. Geez, they used the friggn' IRS to finally get Al Capone.
Also, Build the wall...........over the Delaware River!

  9. Steed,

Why not tell us were you live? That might give your comments some credibility. While you are at it, let us know if you have a family with you, such as wife and kids. See women feel differently about safety than guys do. They are clearly more often the victims than us. So if you are ensconced in a downtown home and your female members of the household are fine with the environment on the street that would be good to know, as well, if you have children, are they attending the local schools?

There have been two shootings on my street in recent years, one was at school dismissal when one of my sons was on his way home from school. There have also been numerous stabbings and two machete attacks as well as assault robberies both in the park and on surrounding streets. I know many here whose homes have been broken into, and two when the home owners were home with their kids.

It's not a joke, it's very real to us.

    1. First of all it's speed, my home is center city. Sorry if I don't look to only the minorities as the only thieves that are breaking into houses. Let's all ignore the majority of heroin addicts "that are mostly white." Walking in the alleyways with ladders, and crowbars.

    2. Let me guess my mentioning of white people, is different than Don writing about his white friends.
