Trump's Speech, Vanity Squared

I believe that Trump's address to the nation was conceived by Susan Wiles, to show that she is still in the co-pilot seat, despite her confessions to Vanity Fair Magazine. It was probably also intended as damage control in regard to Trump's crude remarks concerning the Reiner tragedy. It was very ill timed, considering that Trump had nothing substantial to say, and that he will have to repeat himself soon enough, for the State of the Union speech.

While none of his sycophants clued Trump in about why he was giving a speech, the media will inform him, again, soon enough. His speech was a ramble of factual errors and promises. Nothing you can put under the tree next week.

Wiles generally made the best of a hard case, an impulsive ego-maniac, her replacement won't fare as well. She had Trump's confidence, while her replacement will have Trump's doubt. I could care less about Trump, I do care about the country. If there was ever a president who needed a good manager, it is him. Let's hope that he picks this next apprentice well.

  1. I suspect, he is not easily managed. I would not doubt that there will be some serious changes in the cabinet after the new year.

    1. My goodness, he's one of the world's most successful businessmen. He knows how to get things done. Even better, he is not a typical politician as we see operating today in their own self-interest above all else.

Agree, he is not easily managed. As we would normally not expect him to be. I can live with that and his other "flaws."

  2. You wrote " I could care less about Trump." Now, that's quite the revelation. Who knew?

  3. It’s funny how you pivot to one obscure story after another, especially when the facts don’t agree with your narrative.

I guess you missed yesterday’s good inflation numbers, which even MSNBC and CNN “pundits” who had previously predicted disastrous inflation because of Trump’s tariffs, had to agree that the actual inflation numbers released yesterday were actually good, and good news for the country.

It’s easy to rail about non-specific “affordability” that means something different to everyone, and ignore actual facts. For me, I’ll just add the “Tariffs will Doom the Economy” to the litany of hoaxes that your news sources have put out.

Don’t confuse us with the facts.

  4. anon@8:42 & 4:11: I don't mention sources, and I'll assume that the ones mentioned are not yours. "Affordability" in the real world, and the voting world, is in the grocery store, the oil delivery, the gas pump, etc. Trump's speech was nonsense, and generally perceived as such. The Republican failure to address ACA has doomed their incumbents. Even if the Democratic bill is voted upon in early January, it will require the subsidy program to restart, after having been disrupted and ended.
Do you think the public appreciates that Trump added his name to the Kennedy Center? Trump and Johnson are a disgrace.

  5. I could give a rat’s ass about the Kennedy Center, but if the Kennedy family and others want to complain about it, then they should have been raising the money to get it up to standards.

Trump stepped up, and naturally gets ripped by those who did nothing to solve the problem.

  6. anon@9:10:There was no structural problem with either the Kennedy Center or the East Wing of the White House. Congress will have to pass stricter laws to protect our monuments, but who could have imagined such ego driven crassness.

  7. Give us a break on the East Wing! It was only built in 1902 and few people would be able to tell you what it even looked like, given its separation from the main White House building.

As to the demolition, that likely has more to do with the need to modernize and strengthen the underground bunker (the Presidential Emergency Operations Center) beneath the East Wing than anything else.

In addition, a much needed ballroom is being added to accommodate large state functions. This will replace the temporary tents and portable restrooms (yes, tents and portable restrooms!) that have to be used now. And that comes at no cost to the taxpayer.

As to the Kennedy Center not having any structural issues, maybe you should talk to their board from the last quarter-century that has been requesting (and receiving) MILLIONS in appropriations to correct those deficiencies. The fact that the improvements were lagging behind schedule and well over-budget didn’t seem to bother anyone but Trump, who fixed that problem in his spare time.

He deserves gratitude for doing all that, not cheap partisan attacks.

  8. anon@8:33: My attack may be cheap, but it's not partisan. However, your defense is completely partisan.

  9. You’ve written daily screeds against Trump for months.

You mistakenly believe partisanship (and partisans) only involve political parties.

You’ve become what you claim to despise.

  10. anon@11:21: There are partisans on the group who blame Democrats for all wrong, and they repeat over and over, Democrats!.They blame Democrats for the wrongs in the city, county, state and country.
You're correct that I have issues about Trump, but not because he is a Republican, but because he subverts the law and constitution.
