Ruminations From An Old Blog(ger)

I don't purport to be nice, that's a trait that never reached me. While this blog is in its eighteenth year, only recently have I broken out of Allentown, toward Washington... Trump does move people. I voted for him in 2016, but couldn't do so again in 2020 (or 2024), when I voted for an independent. After Jan. 6, I find his current complaint against Mark Kelly very ironic.

As an independent conservative, local Republicans comprised a large part of my readership. Their partisanship is causing them to proclaim intense disappointment in me. Life has disappointments. I was caught of guard by Majorie Green's announced resignation. I recently posted that she is joining a small but growing group pushing back against the King. There are trip words in this political world, and King is one of them. I will receive comments that now I should go stand with the other blue haired boomers protesting at the local congressman's office.

I don't stand with protesters, but I will be speaking out here on the blog. Speaking out was what this blog was about since day one. If it's a mayor in Allentown, a governor in Harrisburg, or a president in Washington, I'll speak my mind. If I lose or gain a few readers, it won't affect my lunch.

I'm not here to be polite or popular

ADDENDUM: Another change coming to this blog is advertisements. This is an experiment of sorts...there will be different ad densities (number of ads) and different ad placements. It will be third party provided, without control on my part concerning placement or products advertised.

  1. For a different perspective, I am also a registered Independent. Having been both a Democrat and a Republican for many years. About 15 years ago, I came to realize both major political parties suck. They both still do, and the problem is getting worse.

These constant attacks on President Trump every time he sneezes or stubs his toe, have reached the point of absurdity. It's like a sickness with a still unknown cure.

    To such incessant detractors I ask . . .

do you really want to back to a time of wide open borders?
Immigration without some measure of control?
men taking over women's sports, bathrooms, and locker rooms?
a reversal of the Trump Tax Cuts that saved you money?
homeless camps in our city downtowns?
    fear of riding public transportation?
buildings burned down protestors while police stand down?
a Congress whose only interest is getting re-elected?
    foolish, unaccountable foreign aid programs?
    controversial, suspicious nationwide election results?

Anti-American propaganda HAS been working here. This Thanksgiving season, let's begin to stop its hold on our minds.

  2. anon@6:30: Despite your claim of being an independent, your list is rabid Republican. Closing the border on day one was good, the problem is from day two onwards. Your closing implication that speaking out against Trump is anti-American sums you up.

    1. Thank you. Your response is very instructive. I am a Conservative who strives to promote common sense ideas.
      Carry on!

    2. Evidently, there no value in the rest of that list.

    3. anon@7:54: not as significant as the independent poser at 6:30 denotes.
Bringing the National Guard into our cities as policemen was theater,
The "girl's locker room" issue affects families, and might be better addressed by our health professionals, which Kennedy has undermined.
Homelessness is a growing national problem, again not a police issue
There should be term limits in all levels of government, but those who make the rules only give it lip service, not actual votes.

    4. Cleaning up D.C., it’s streets, underground, restaurant and business areas, and neighborhoods was a necessary and wonderful gift to the entire country and to every American.

    5. So if a man is in my granddaughter’s locker room which health care provider should I call?

    6. A gift to every American? How about this one, the under construction new White House Ballroom. All being paid for without taxpayer dollars and fully funded by corporate and individual donors.

Up until now, large State Dinners needed to be held outside the doors in a temporary TENT with PORTA-POTTIES! A nice addition to the upcoming 250th Anniversary, I'd say.

    7. anon@12:17: The ballroom is a monstrosity in every way. Even the architect feels it is out of proportion with the Whitehouse. It may be privately funded, but It will cost you sycophants millions of votes come November.

  3. I have to laugh every time you rail against partisans or partisanship (of party) in recent weeks.

You don’t seem to realize that partisanship is not limited to just adherence to political parties. It can also mean adherence to a particular cause or position.

As your anti-Trump posts over the last few months prove, you are certainly THE MOST partisan person writing here.

So if partisanship is what you hate, you are hating on yourself.

  4. Mike as you've said, it's your blog, your direction. From my perspective though it makes for a less interesting blog.

What you're covering here now is covered a million times over everywhere else. I have read your blog for years because there are very few people covering what is happening locally - and as you've pointed out, there are a lot of local shenanigans that need to be exposed.

Just one person's opinion. Thanks for what you've done over the years, it is appreciated and Happy Thanksgiving.

  6. “After Jan. 6, I find his current complaint against Mark Kelly very ironic.”

Yes it is, particularly since so much of what we were initially told about January 6th has proven to be untrue.

But you are correct about the irony - Trump never tried to turn the military against his country. Kelly did.

    1. I believe whatever the MSM tells me about Jan. 6th. I loved the high production values extravaganza put together to educate us on the ultimate truthfulness

    2. Trump never made a move to arrest Kelly, either. All Trump did was to turn the investigation over to the War Department for their review and response. Exactly how the incident should be handled!

  7. Even if your blog has gone off the rails, and it has (as you well know I am no Republican type), it is your blog and you will always be a hero to the people in Allentown with a huge body of courageous, insightful work that has provided an invaluable service to the community.
My affection for you is undiminished.
A safe and happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

  8. Consider the current mayor of Chicago and his predecessor. Consider the Governor of Illinois. Consider the murder rate in Chicago on a given weekend.
Now tell us that the Windy City doesn’t require some serious L.E. remediation.
