MAGA Man Arrested

A MAGA man was arrested at the Wilkes-Barre No Kings Rally for brandishing a handgun at protesters. MAGA man spent the night in jail. On my post about the rally in Allentown, I referred to hundreds of protesters. I knew from the media coverage that there were thousands, but thought I could spare the dialogue a number counting debate. Regardless, someone sent in multiple comments that there should be permits, and that Cedar Crest Blvd. is too dangerous of a location. I suspect that for a pro Trump rally, they would find it to be safe enough.

I expect today to receive comments that my MAGA Man characterization is derogatory. Truth be told, I find current administration supporters to be in one of two camps. Either they are a MAGA Trump cultist, or a partisan, happy that they are in charge. I'm afraid for the Republicans that the cultists didn't vote before, and won't again. They voted for Trump, not the party.

I'm getting more and more comments about commenting. Either I don't print enough and I'm censoring, or I'm not enforcing previously stated comment guidelines. I confess to having an inconsistent policy, and being affected by the amount of sugar in my breakfast that morning.

I'm not here to be polite or popular

  1. You’re not here to be polite,
neither are you here to be accurate or factual. Granted, you make no claim or commitment to accuracy or objectively.
It’s certainly your space to advance any notion you fancy or narrative you please to amuse yourself or your target audience.
It’s intriguing to observe and to be given the opportunity to weigh in on occasion.
Thank you, and good morning sir.

  2. President Trump is receiving significant pushback on his domestic ajenda. His governing by Executive Orders; his crackdown on illegal aliens, his use of National Guard troops in urban areas.

This does not include his foreign policy and his soft line on Russia, as Vlaimir Putin kills innocent civilians every night by his drone and missile attacks on Ukraine's cities. Even Meliana is upset about Putin's kidnapping of Ukranian children and taking them to Russia to be "Russiafied'.

The Republicans hold thin majorities in both the House and Senate in Congress. Those Republicans who run on Trump's policies may be in for significant opposition.

  3. I’m the one who commented about safety on the previous post, and that there should be permits required for protests along Cedar Crest Boulevard. I find your attempt to minimize and politicize an obvious safety issue appalling, and sad sign of where things are at right now as far as common sense.

Requiring permits is not limiting free speech. It allows municipalities to know what to expect ahead of time and to schedule adequate resources (police, Fire, ambulance) to be available to protect the public (in this case both protesters and travelers).

Please go back and look at the photo that accompanied your previous post. There is no sidewalk and little to no shoulder at the protest site. Some of the protesters are actually across the white line and standing in the roadway. In addition, others are holding flags and signs over into the roadway. That road is traveled by cars, buses and trucks (some carrying oversized loads) and the protest site is probably only a quarter mile from the interstate.

It is unsafe to have people standing in or adjacent to an active roadway, especially a high speed one. We should ALL be able to agree on THAT.

It doesn’t matter if it’s a No Kings Rally, a Trump rally, or anything else. It’s not safe, and it’s an accident waiting to happen.

As I noted on the previous post, if the protests need to be moved in the name of safety, move them. If the solution is to close the road while the protest is going on, close the road. If there is another solution, find it. But the current situation cannot and should not continue.

    1. anon@1:51: In all the rallies all over, I heard of no traffic incidents. Actually, unfortunately, sometimes vehicles are used as weapons against protests. At any rate, your opinion on this topic is again noted...no repeat necessary.

  4. Brent@1:23: The Republicans in purple states certainly won't run on Trump's policies, but they don't have the courage to stand up now.
