Crassness In The White House

The only word I can think of to describe the demolition of the East Wing at the White House is crass. What Trump has done to the Oval Office was bad enough. I haven't seen that much gold gild and bad taste since Zsa Zsa Gabor.

I have been receiving comments that I have TDS. I don't agree with that diagnosis. Although I didn't vote for the top of the ticket in 2024, I expected Trump to be no worse than in his first term. Trump never knew anything about history. While the gild will be able to be removed by the next president, who knows what a monstrosity the new ballroom will be?

Eventually, and hopefully sooner than later, he will push enough buttons to wake up the other branches of government, to assert themselves against his breaches of convention. Those breaches extend far beyond bad taste, into questionable uses of our military and law enforcement, both in the Caribbean and in our cities.

I'm not here to be polite or popular

  1. Your constant attempts to malign President Trump are clearly clouding your vision of the "bigger picture." I sense a desperation here that can't be the healthiest way for either of us at this late stage in our lives to exist.

Interestingly, today's Morning Call Page 6 Your View submission by David Prager puts the whole situation that now consumes you, into the proper perspective.

Essentially, Prager advises us to be more pragmatic and rational about what we see happening in contemporary federal politics. The writer suggests evaluating our nation's president's using a clear, wider vision than we typically see publicly expressed now.

I suggest you do not dwell on such minutia as the appearance, temperament, and personality of someone you have never met, nor spent any time with. I suspect everyone who posts here is mostly limited to parroting media talking points they encounter along the way. But, it's RESULTS that matter most.

Like the old adage expressed to those contemplating divorcing a spouse. That is, first ask yourself "Are you better off with, or without him/her." Until you can answer this, you're not ready to act either way.

In terms of President Trump's value to America and Americans, I am CERTAIN we are all better off with him than we would have been without him in charge. This debate is not even close. We all clearly ARE better off on issues that actually matter.

I suggest you tone it down, Michael.

  2. I'm a voter who detests Trump's personality but who does support many of his policies including the border shut down and National Guard in the cities [Please send them to Allentown while Tuerk is in office!!]. I think Trump has traveled to some of the parts of the World where strong rulers and dictators have built massive, opulent edifices to themselves where money is no object, just self glorification, and he wants that for himself here in America. I would expect lots of self portraits and tributes to his accomplishments throughout the new wing. Going to be an interesting 3 more years..

  3. anon@7:45: Perhaps your compulsion to support Trump is clouding your perception of reality. He suspends trade talks with Canada because of an ad featuring Ronald Reagan speaking against tariffs? I suggest Republicans start speaking out, or mid-terms won't be pleasant for them.
anon@7:58: Yes, he surely would like a palace, and I hope the next 3 years are just interesting, and not disastrous.

  4. Crass?

What I would consider “crass” is the lack of gratitude for someone who is making a multi-million dollar improvement without spending a dime of taxpayer money.

The White House complex has changed greatly over the last 200 years or so. If the next occupant doesn’t see the value in the ballroom, they are welcome to raise funds and change it to something that better suits the needs of the Executive branch.

Once again you are parroting the talking points of the democrats and their allies in the main stream media, who are desperate to talk about ANYTHING besides the impact of the democrat shutdown of the government, the democrat war on law enforcement, or the continued democrat desire for open borders.

I also find it suspicious that as a supposed independent you are truly concerned about the political future of either party. If so, perhaps you should pay some attention to the democrats, who are polling well below Trump, Republicans, lawyers, used car salesmen and pond scum.

Yet somehow your criticism is always one sided. Thanks for proving that even “independents” can be partisans.

P.S. - I’ve seen the president talking about the history of the White House, and I’d be willing to bet he could school most of his critics on the subject.

    1. You say the work is being done without a dime of taxpayer money. I'd love to see the donor list and I'd be willing to bet those donors will expect something in return that will indirectly cost the taxpayers plenty.

  5. anon@8:50: An improvement in whose eyes beyond his? Do you think that the average MAGA relates to ballrooms? BTW, paving over the rose garden was also crass.
I do agree that the shutdown is a disservice to Americans.
My credentials as an independent conservative are pretty solid. I don't read, much less parrot either party talking points. However, I'm impressed with Fetterman stepping up about ending the shutdown. Although I didn't support him in the election, he's turning out to be an interesting surprise.

  6. You do realize that the rose garden still exists, don't you? I really don't care you do not like Trump. He is crass. However, I do not recall seeing complaints about the basketball court built over the tennis court built by a recent prior president. What about the vegetable garden installed, ripping out long standing landscaping during the same administration. Was that wrong and objectionable? What about the years' long demolition and construction at the capital building during this century? Was that a scandal?

Were the significant construction of the White House indoor pool, east wing, etc during the Depression and WWII scandals? Applying your logic it should have been and would be all over the newspapers , magazines and radio news of its day. It was not.

Was Teddy R's construction of the West Wing a scandal? After all, a lot of established ground and improvements had to be disturbed for that project.

It is the knee jerk reaction that if Trump does it that it is bad that I find humorous, and a little pitiful for someone who attempts to be independent. I believe you can handle legit criticism, and in this instance it's legit.

  7. Let's not forget the proposed building of an ARCH over the road near the Lincoln Memorial, built to commemorate America's 250th Anniversary. No doubt lots of heads will explode over that one, too!

  8. anon@12:34: The open part of the rose garden is now a paved patio, styled after Mar-A-Lago
Obama had a movable basket put on the end of the tennis court, and basketball lines painted by it. It could still function as a tennis court.
Don't concern yourself about the few thousand who read my complaint, rather be concerned with the hundreds of millions who see the photographs and resent the opulence.

    1. ANON@2:58: out of your ten insults this post, I chose this one, instead of the antisemitic ones. I hope Lehigh County eventually gets a district attorney who doesn't feel conflicted, and you get prosecuted for harassment and threats against all your victims.

  10. Our current president will go down in history as the greatest, most fabulous and incredible scam artist of all time. I mean, whom but he could have took an issue that most people on both sides of the spectrum were screaming about for years and and make it fade into the back ground with another "Look over here now!" Anybody remember "Epstein! Epstein! Epstein!"? From going to a broke loser who couldn't manage his way out of parking lot to being a billionaire (anybody who thinks not can just look at his tax statement like he swore he would show...wait, nvermind). But on whose dime? As someone previously noted about what the donors expect for their donations for the renovations I would say the same about everything he is shilling to make a profit from being in the white house: Bibles, Bit coin, watches etc. Who is buying this crap? Maybe there should be an investigation about the most obvious money laundering scheme in history? "The Trump family reportedly made $3.4 billion from their businesses during his presidency, according to a 2025 New Yorker report, with over $2.3 billion of that coming from cryptocurrency ventures and foreign deals. These profits are a result of activities like cryptocurrency investments and foreign-backed deals." Right now they have the power to scam the world unfettered and they are grabbing everything they can .
