The redemption in the Marshall McLuhan sense was Tuerk's photo opt with Candidate Harris, hopefully for him replacing the social media confrontation with the Trump barricade worker. However, the post title is misleading, because the redemption portion of the post is now complete, and fresh criticism follows below.
The screen grab shown above is from the LehighValleyNews.Com coverage of the Rosie Perez stop in Allentown last Friday, campaigning for Kamala. At that event, Tuerk claims that he represents all Allentonians, but he doesn't. He certainly doesn't represent those that are not Democrats. More and more, he is also not representing those who are not Latino.
When you direct your police chief not to enforce quality of life issues such as double parking, you're catering to a laidback attitude, that less of the city may share than he believes. Tilghman Street is not a backroad on a Caribbean Island, where double parking has little consequence. Between people's political correctness and his sycophants, Tuerk may be overestimating both his popularity and effectiveness as mayor.
I do hope that one day in the future that Allentown has a mayor that was actually born and raised in the city. Who believes that the criminal element needs to be punished for their transgressions; who represents all of the people of the city and who actually knows how to dress and act professionally.
ReplyDeleteQuality of life in a city is HUGE in enticing people to live there. But, the daily evidence of responsible living conditions needs to be always VISIBLE.
ReplyDeleteAllentown’s reputation for cleanliness, orderly operation, and respectful behavior among residents has been POOR for years.
The city has a reputation (deserved or not) of street crime, dirty streets, ignored traffic and parking violations, neglected, unkempt, and overgrown public spaces, poorly maintained rentals, unruly neighborhood youths who are loud and disrespectful, and in my opinion, a demoralized police force who is too slow to react in fear of reprisals.
Is there any doubt why all the new apartment building windows downtown are mostly unlit after dark? Despite what we are told, I believe too many units are leased . . . but not lived in. I surely wouldn’t want to daily deal with parking decks, elevators, and the insecure feeling that comes with that lifestyle.
Hermano Tuérk is a visionary mayor who has discarded the white man's way of ruling the plebian class of BIPOC constituents who have previously been looked down upon as rubes. Boomers hate him because he is uber hip, stylish tattoos, tremendous bicycle skills, multilingual, and punk credentials from his youth as an ANTIFA foot soldier.
ReplyDeleteI urge the nattering nabobs to spend some time in his company and maybe even go out on bike ride he's one cool cat.
You ought to consider standup comedy as a career.
DeleteAs a life long Dem I have rarely seen any advantage of voting outside of my party. As a citizen of Allentown, I'm hoping Nat Hyman runs again.
ReplyDeleteHe is not cool. He is not a mayor. He acts like a child. Cannot manage people. Picks unqualified workers. H.R. is a mess. He disgraced the City with his antics during Trump event. People don't like him. Plain and Simple
ReplyDeleteBLAME MAYOR ON ELECTION!!! HE IS NEXT TO LOSE IN MAY. BYE MATT!!!
ReplyDeleteMayor keeps posting on Facebook. We need to unite. United over what? Cause Kamala lost the election? Why can't he just shut up and embrace the new president.
ReplyDeleteThis guy is absolutely terrible- I hope Hyman runs again, and the people of this great city wake up and vote for an experienced businessman.
ReplyDeleteCompañero Tuérk embodies the "Siempre Latino" mindset one passed down from his Cuban Abuela the island where many folks were subjugated into brutal agricultural labor. He needs no redemption, his hands are clean and will not be tainted by the odious stench of late stage capitalism foisted upon us by the coastal elites and their effete gluttony for pawns to push around.
