The Intersection Of DeSantis And Trump In The Republic Of Florida

Except for a few pockets in the southern part of the state on both coasts, Florida is a deep red state. With Marco Rubio heading the new State Department, Ron DeSantis is charged with appointing a fill in senator.

Raising her hand for the position is Lara Trump, Donald's daughter-in-law. Some may remember that Ron DeSantis himself had visions of sitting behind the desk in the oval office. For most presidents, recommending their daughter-in-law would be too embarrassing. However, we all know that Trump is not encumbered by modesty. He is not overburdened with humility.

As governor and former candidate himself, DeSantis has his own list from which to choose an appointee. With Trump now limited to one term, and J.D. Vance having a foot up for 2028,  DeSantis might assert himself early by denying Lara the spot. On the other hand and in Florida, there's always another hurricane on the doorstep... President Trump will be directing FEMA. What's a governor to do?

  1. Unlike the blue party, which decided to dole out aid to hurricane victims based on their poltical preferences, I don't believe that political beliefs or your religion is important to DeSantis or Trump
    with regards to FEMA.

DeSantis has the reigns of one of the fastest-growing states, and is in charge of all of the various agencies and departments of the Florida exective office. A very nationally-visible position. In Washington he would be a junior senator and his position would be much less prominent. Do you know who the other Senator from Florida is ?

I'm sure DeSantis will appoint someone who he believes will represent Florida well in the Senate, along with Rick Scott :) DeSantis and Trump are political allies, however they are not eye to eye on everything.

  2. The intelligent in show buisness stay in their lane and don't join in the political fray. Upsetting half your audience is not good for your career.

Louis B Mayer said about actors in politics: "If you want to send a message, call Western Union".

  3. Many of us would love to see Desantis appoint himself. With V.P. J.D. now viewed as Trump's successor, Desantis's path to the presidency are likely on hold. His intelligence, abilities and bold leadership would be a great asset to the Republican senate. Scott Armstrong

  4. “Trump absolutely didn’t want to give aid to California or Puerto Rico purely for partisan politics – because they didn’t vote for him,” said Kevin Carroll, former senior counselor to the homeland security secretary John Kelly during Trump’s term. Carroll said Kelly, later the president’s chief of staff, had to “twist Trump’s arm” to get him to release the federal funding via Fema to these badly hit areas.

“It was clear that Trump was entirely self-interested and vengeful towards those he perceived didn’t vote for him,” Carroll told the Guardian. “He even wanted to pull the navy out of Hawaii because they didn’t vote for him. We were appalled – these are American civilians the government is meant to provide for. The idea of withholding aid is antithetical to everything you want from in a leader.”

"not encumbered by modesty. He is not overburdened with humility. " ...also his actions are not restricted by honesty, fairness, empathy among others.

  5. 10:05 - It’s telling that you don’t give the source of your quotes. Trump’s FEMA was far superior to the current administration’s, and (unlike the present administration) did not withhold aid from anyone based on political affiliation.

He would not, however, send aid without proper accountability. Those looking for an endless taxpayer gravy train for natural disasters have been (and will be) disappointed.

  6. All speculation, its a long way to 2028, if we actually survive to then. We will see how long Rubio last as sec of state, he may be running for the senate again or even governor.
