Two women were shot the other day in the 700 Block of St. John Street...That's right around the corner in the photo above. I'm pretty familiar with that neighborhood, I went to the elementary school also shown above. I got my childhood haircuts also around the corner, in the 800 block.
The photo heralds back to 1940. If two women had been shot back then, it would have remained a headline for weeks afterwards. However, such violence then was inconceivable. Most of you probably don't even know about the shooting, because it is now so routine that it was only in the news for a few hours.
Mayor Tuerk hasn't mentioned it, in either English or Spanish. It's time for Tuerk to stop talking Spanish, and start talking crime, and quality of life. We all know by now that he is bi-lingual and supports bi-sexuals. What we don't know is how he really feels about crime and the mayhem plaguing Allentown.

ReplyDeleteYes, and nowadays it’s only the latest puff piece about a new apartment building that remains that long.
It’s tough to fill those downtown apartments if you keep the stories about the murders around too long
Allentown gets what it votes for, that's why you left. A lot of smart people have as well. That has been a wise decision and continues to be. Judging by Matt's performance, the low caliber of are city council and school board members and the fact that two twenty year old woke no nothings will now be representing the city in the state senate and house, along with the other D seat warmers the future looks far from promising. We are hoping to age out of our house as we love it and the community. Nothing is certain and we haven't felt this uncertain in a long time.
ReplyDeleteA lot of smart people have left Allentown? I've heard a rumor that Rep. Schlossberg has moved to a South Whitehall/Parkland based portion of his district, but I don't know if its true or not.
DeleteIt is my belief that the current liberal establishment wants to drive middle class out of our cities. You see, we do the right thing, and expect basic services like utilities / streets / enforcement of laws / public safety. We are an annoyance.
ReplyDeleteOTOH, less caring folks can be easily manipulated through a myriad of welfare programs. These programs flow money, local / state / federal, programs. This creates the liberal powerbase. These constituents are much easier to control, don't demand much, as long as they get 'a check an services'.
Mike, when I comment, I select Google Profile, but instead of logging in with Google, it takes me back to your home page. Didn't know if you were aware of this. Thanks.
