Aftermath Of Washington Riot

The aftermath of last week's riot in Washington has both national and local consequences. I find Nancy Pelosi's comment about protesters choosing their whiteness over democracy offensive. While some protesting the election may be racists, most people were there because they bought into the notion, however misguided,  that the election wasn't fair. You might say that Pelosi is putting accusations of racism ahead of truth. In addition to being divisive, I doubt that such an accusation will bring anybody new into her tent.

Locally, an Allentown district teacher was suspended for participating in the protest. It has not been determined if he entered the Capital Building, so such a suspension seems premature to me, not unlike a tar and feathering.  Paul Muschick, Morning Call columnist, has an excellent piece on the suspension. Muschick has stepped up to the plate since being assigned the column, and has produced many insightful pieces.

While I'm referring to a Morning Call columnist, let me also compliment the many excellent reporters at the paper.  While I'm a frequent critic of the Morning Call,  my complaints only concern  the opinion page policy. That page is an open door for certain people and topics, and completely closed to others.

  1. I have heard that a Bethlehem school superintendent, sent out a notice to all families stating that the protests in Washington were all based on Race. Is this true? If so, will he or she be fired?

  3. Mike, The media was ignoring the rally until a small minority in the crowd of several hundred thousand decided to act like Antifa instead of responsible citizens. The media looking to exploit events to fit their partisan narrative instead of reporting the news jumped into action and blamed the idiotcy of a few on the entire event and especially their favorite demon Trump. The media continues to whip up division, anger and violence on all sides then acts shocked and appalled when they report the events they helped instigate. It is my opinion that the biggest evil in the country today is the media. They work daily to set neighbor against neighbor, brother against brother, inflame, outrage, and stoke. I cut the cable cord. I highly recommend it.

  4. The media whipping up division, anger and violence is talk radio and right wing TV like Fox "News" and the ilk. Since the election they have non stop programmed anchors and opinion heads giving credence to the Trump lies and his Congressional lackeys promoting the "Big Steal" nonsense. Wearing Nazi slogan shirts and carrying Confederate flags is racist "whiteness over democracy" personified. One doesn't have to cut the cable cord or stick one's head in the sand; just stop watching & listening to Fox & Newsmax & QAnon and read responsible news sources like the NYT & Washington Post to receive evidence based information.

  6. Trent is again providing us all insights into the twisted and hate filled thinking that is common currency on the left these days. The truth is every conservative is completely aware and informed on how and what liberals believe and think. Unlike people such as Trent, we can't live in a ideological bubble as liberalism permeates entertainment, sports, culture, schools, businesses....The average conservative is far more critical, and much better informed than the average liberal who demonstrate their illiberalism daily by refusing to read, watch, or listen to opinions that differ from their own. This self imposed ignorance has left them unable to articulate a real response, a true rebuttal. With logic, learning, and self reflection on ice insults, slanders and hate are all they have left as argument. We see this with Trent, we see it routinely on social media, and we see it reported as "news" on the mainstream media.

  7. Let’s not talk about the cop that Trump supporters beat to death.

Let’s not talk about the gallows erected by Trump supporters.

Let’s not talk about the Trump supporters carrying zip ties and improvised explosives into Congress.

Let’s not talk about the crowd of Trump supporters chanting “Death to Mike Pence”.

No. Let’s talk about Pelosi. She is the real problem.

  8. Max, apparently we are talking about all that aren't we. And apparently we are all condemning it aren't we. Apparently you are using Mike's post to spread a lie that the police officer that died hours after his altercation with protestors when he collapsed in his office was "beaten to death by Trump supporters ". Clearly he wasn't beaten to death was he? So stop spreading lies. So who is in the wrong here Max, you and the left that never condemned the looting, arson, rioting, death and destruction of the left wing riots or conservatives who uniformly condemned the violence by what we presume to be our supporters? By the way, many police officers were shot and many were shot to death by BLM inspired shooters yet the left, the media, Joe Biden and the Democratic party fully embrace this hate group. Again Max who is the problem here?

    1. Ah the old deflection defense... What about..? Yeah and what about...?

The topic was about the riots. You brought every other damn thing but the riots. So am I to take it you approve because others you disagree with do it. Some defense.

  9. Those who are caught being hypocritical though their use of selective memory and selective outrage now pull out the newly coined excuse word " whataboutism ". Using an invented word to attempt to impugn those who point out your hypocrisy is as obvious as it is intellectually vacuous. It laughable the left thinks this silliness is at all convincing. Frankly, you look like self righteous fools.
