Ce-Ce Rocks The Block

Ce-Ce Gerlach rocked South 16th Street this afternoon with a block party to raise funds for school uniforms. The block was packed with people enjoying several carnival attractions, music and food. From all reports, the new Allentown school uniform policy seems to have gotten off to a good start, but one issue is the cost of the  clothes.  With a large, low income student body, this can become a family hardship.  I'm sure Ce-Ce's organizing abilities  will help with this problem.  I've had a couple of conservations with Ce-Ce this past month, and I believe she will be a factor in Allentown's future.
To donate to the school uniform fund, make check payable to RCDC, 144 N. 9th St. Allentown, Pa. 18101.   Write Uniforms on memo line.

UPDATE January 30,2018: Last evening I attended an early kickoff for Ce-Ce's campaign for Allentown City Council in 2019.  I've known Ce-Ce for years, and am glad to see her again offering her time and energy to Allentown.  In this sorry time we need people with her sincerity and integrity.

In regards to this sorry time,  it's my understanding that the prosecution against Pawlowski had a strong showing in court yesterday. Numerous witnesses, including former city employees, described bid rigging and a pay to play culture. Supposedly, the defense attorney seemed exasperated, and Pawlowski himself somewhat forlorn.

  1. Mike,

As someone who also agrees there is no room for nice when it comes to those who hold or seek to hold public office I respectfully disagree with your assessment of Ce-Ce Gerlack as an elected official. As a person she may be swell, from what I saw on the school board over four years informs my current assessment of a person who is less than stellar in performance for reason I could detail.
That said, she is ambitious, calculating, and devotes a large part of her life to the grind of politics.

    1. I disagree with your critique of Ce-Ce Gerlach. She has the much needed experience in dealing with families and children, the portion of the population that is responsible for making true change in the city. She does and will not commit to voting for something just because it is popular among the board. She has a vision for change in the town which is more adequate then anyone else she will run against. As for you Scott, and you purposely misspelling of her last name, show that you weigh in heavy on the ignorant side.

  2. I personally didn't see any effectiveness on the school board. Don't get me wrong, she is a fine person with passion in her blood, however, she lacks vision for a better safe Allentown. Nineteen [19] homicides is unsatisfactory and a 4.6% rise in serious [violent & major]crimes is sickening! Yet we have a police administration with no constructive plans to abate this problem and believe handing out basketballs and toy footballs is the answer.

We need council persons who will change this culture, through firings and demotions, and put somebody at the top who has a vision. CC is marginal and so far, she has not demonstrated a passion to do this.

  3. scott and fire, i'm not holding up ce-ce to a mother teresa, but rather to a cynthia mota. we are limited to those people who throw their hat in the ring. she has been all about allentown now for close to a decade, i find her well qualified.

  4. Mike, you are correct that Ce-Ce has the drive and interests of Allentown. I also have to agree with Scott & fire that I have not seen many results from her on the school board. I am not sure how she will fare in the 2019 elections for City Council. She will be running against current City Council President and former do nothing Police Chief Roger MacLean, Candida Affa, and Jenn Mann/Mike Schlossberg/Pete Schweyer protégé Courtney Robinson. I think she should wait for the 2021 election when she will be pitted against Julio Guridy and Cynthia Mota. She has a better chance to defeat either one of them.

  5. Let's be honest, is there any one person who can turn Allentown around from a seat on council? Answer; no!The truth is this city's government and voting population has been so thoroughly corrupted by Ed Pawlowski that any chance of a restoration of good government is at best remote. The list of names of city leaders makes for dismal reading. I have some hope that Maclean is an honest man but in the swamp of Allentown city government he will in all likelyhood find himself a lonely man.

Let's pretend Ce-Ce get's on the board, what example of her past performance on the school board makes anyone thing she could make any difference on city council. Call me cynical, but I have lost all hope that anyone currently involved in city government could or would actually make a positive difference in the city. What they will do, as both Schlossberg, Scheweyer and Pawlowski tried to do was use city government as a stepping stone to more lucrative political positions. Does anyone doubt this ins't Ce-Ce plan? Who could blame her if it was? That said, this sort of ambition does not make for good government.

  6. Ednotguilty,

The truth is I have never been able to spell even simple words, before computers corrected my misspellings I used dictionaries. That said, neither is any help with last names. Does that make me ignorant?
That said, what exactly is her vision? My vision was good government and responsible stewardship of the taxpayers money.
