ALLENTOWN SPEAK OUT

Speak out about issues in Allentown that affect our quality of life. Speak out about the new Home Inspection Law that most homeowners do not know about. Speak out about the Parking Authority and Lanta. Speak out about crime being under reported. Are you concerned about rising school taxes? Are you frustrated by zoning that negatively impacts our school system? Are you tired of City Hall and The Morning Call framing the issues. It's our house, it's our garden, it's our future. Please join us next saturday, Jan. 26, 12 noon, at the Faith Baptist Church, 219 N. 12th St. (between Turner and Chew) and speak out!

  1. Speaking of our gardens, did you hear about the new fee being proposed by the city for a bride's use of the Rose Garden? I thought our public parks were free. Now the city will need to hire someone to take reservations and monitor the Rose Garden. And they are going to charge for tents and chairs. What was wrong with the way it was before? Do you think Council will approve?

  2. this administration seems to have no hesitation about hiring people. although we have one of the best park systems in the county, we paid for outside recommendations to improve our parks. please realize we are being governed by people who probably don't even know where all our parks are! yes, i expect council to approve most city hall schemes.

  3. Would the Malcolm Gross Memorial Rose Garden be switching to fee-based wedding photo ops if our Mayor's campaign manager wasn't also named Malcolm Gross?

  4. i suspect it would be changing anyway, i think fee's(back door taxes) and debt will increase dramatically, so the mayor can campaign that he didn't raise property taxes

  5. "please realize we are being governed by people who probably don't even know where all our parks are!"

Maybe, but I think Attorney Malcolm Gross, who is also a trustee of the Trexler Trust might know where all the parks are. B. Goldwater is right, Mr. Gross seems to have a lot of "behind the curtain" influence in this town, in several areas. I think we are seeing a new strain of crony-driven democrats in this admin. who actually take from the poor and give to the rich.

  6. i personally do not subscribe to questioning anybody's ethics, although their policies may be misguided.

  7. But don't people's ethics guide their policies? Who benefits from these policies?

You mention "patronage positions" quite a bit. Isn't that questioning the mayor's ethics?

  8. dottie, although you and others may find my statements about patronage and mismanagement indicting, it is not my intention to question his integrity. let me state publicly, i believe pawlowski is in no way corrupt and has not put his personal financial interests ahead of the city. on the other hand, i understand if you find these remarks contradictory
