A century ago we managed Central and South America for bananas and rubber. Trump has now decided that he and the oil industry can have Venezuela. For months we heard pretenses about drugs, but at Saturday's press conference Trump wasn't hiding his cards, we're there for the oil.
When Trump and Hegseth bragged on about the military operation, you might have thought that they had extracted Putin from the Kremlin. Caracas isn't Moscow or Peking, but China has invested in Venezuelan oil production, over a $billion. While Hegseth and Rubio fell over each other praising their boss, they would be better serving their country gauging world reaction, which doesn't share their pride.
We also heard that Congress couldn't be trusted to be in the loop, they leak too much. If congress has been passive about Trump's unilateral decisions, now is the time to speak out. Perhaps Fetterman is correct wearing sweatshirts, at least you can't call him an empty suit.
In 1912 we were satisfied with bananas

Can you get back to talking about local issues Mike. We miss those headlines and talking points from you.
ReplyDeleteI saw that Putin blasted the operation that captured Maduro.
ReplyDeleteSo I guess now YOU’re Putin’s stooge.
The operation certainly is popular with the Venezuelans. Trump was open about using the oil to repay us. Furthermore, he considers it our oil. Right now they're cheering colonialism over dictatorship.
ReplyDeleteI assume you watched the entire hour long press conference, rather than just repeat what some talking-head network news reader told you what to think.
DeleteTrump very much highlighted how critical this action was to stem the flow of drugs into our country. He also pointed out Venezuela is the sponsor of the world's most vicious gang, Tren de Augua, who was establishing a foothold right here in America, specifically Colorado and Arizona. Trump also explained Maduro was negotiating with China to build it's own seaport in Venezuela. Not the best situation for America.
Also understand, quite a few members in our House and Senate are not only corrupt, but also helping to bring about an overthrow of our own country to better their own financial self interest. Together with certain international corporations who help fund their campaigns and launder money back to them, those types of operatives MUST be rooted out. This action should have put a dent in that effort.
I agree with Trump and Rubio, we do in this House and Senate have creeps in office who would quickly leak advance notice to our enemies, likely leading to the deaths of our service men and women.
Certainly, this action was risky and will continue to be dangerous for years to come. However, SOMEONE had to step-up to the plate and fight back to help better protect our
citizens. Obama and his puppet, Biden, failed to do that. This was America First, as it always should have been.
anon@4:13: You're correct that I did watch the press conference, but unlike.you, did not drink the kool-aide. Hegseth was predictably puckered up, but Rubio's puckering was a disappointment. I Understand why Witkoff is acting Sec. of State.
ReplyDeleteI was impressed by the reaction of Venezuelans in Miami. I note that their relatives back home are staying inside, considering the country very unstable. How they'll feel in 6 months under our control is the question. How they feel in two years when they realize that their oil is going to our $ interest, rather than theirs, will be the issue.
You are a tough sell. Much too negative. I'm confident the proceeds from the sale of the oil currently in their country will be used for both stated purposes.
DeleteFirst, to repay what our nation and our oil companies lost because the Maduro regime stole all our assets related to oil. Second, to rebuild the infrastructure of their own nation due to Maduro's neglect.
Both Hegseth and Rubio are doing an excellent job. Please cite specific failures by both to "educate" me.
Sorry, you picked the wrong guy to paint as a kool-aide drinker. I am a highly educated, intense researcher and analyst not affiliated with any political party. My Northampton County voter ID reads "No Party." I only deal with live press conferences and actual, unaltered documents. No TV or Radio news. Of course, no mockingbird media, including our own failed, deceptive Morning Call.
Carry on.
My question is: What will be the next distraction to veer the public's eye away the Epstein files? Seems the actions are getting more and more desperate. "Wait! Wait! Look over here now!". Makes me wonder just how despicable were the acts of our dear leader to take this action to move the public's eye from the files?
ReplyDeleteAny negative Trump activities connected to Epstein would already have been found and used against him at some point over the past 6 years, especially prior to his most recent campaign to return to office. There's nothing there! Besides, he already ordered everything to be released in full. Trump also banned Epstein from his Florida properties years ago after he caught Epstein trying to recruit young women there.
Deleteanon@7:40: I do not believe that he is concerned about the Epstein files to that extent. He always has been a confessed womanizer.
ReplyDeleteLikewise, I don't think that he was that concerned about democracy or drugs from Venezuela, but very much coveted their oil.
