From the photos released from the Situation Room at Mar-a- Lago, you would have thought that Trump was directing the invasion of Normandy in 1944. At any rate, he's quite taken with his new chops as Commander-In-Chief.
Less than a day later, he's talking that we need Greenland, and Cuba was told that they're next. He is braying about a Don-roe Doctrine. Here's a man who already had four star delusions of grandeur, being toasted by his appointed and anointed sycophants.
Although we will certainly profit from pilfering Venezuela's oil, his aggression will not play well on the world stage. Although we may have the most powerful military in the world, our long term economy is dependent on international stability.
the SOON meme shown above was posted by the wife of Trump Homeland Security advisor Stephen Miller.

Bummer for the Chinese, eh?
ReplyDeleteSo, Mike, what is your ultimate end game to this curious mission you are on?
ReplyDeleteIs it removal of Trump from office, leaving Vance as President? Bringing back a Democrat as President? Surely, you can't believe the (now) Communist-leaning Democrats created by Obama and his puppet, Biden deserve a chance to create even more destruction to the America we once knew.
My opinion is, you are starved for attention and will get it any way you can, even if that means daily diminishing of yourself with these ridiculous attacks on the very people who have been making real progress in fixing the chaos and carnage brought to America by recent misguided, and often corrupt Democrats.
But, I suppose personal mental therapy comes in many different forms. You've got it bad, fella. It must be hard chasing relevance
at your stage of life. Good luck.
It is all about his greed and ego supported by incompetent equally greedy amoral sycophants.
DeleteIt’s about strength.
ReplyDeleteIt’s about power.
People were clamoring for a multi polar world and this is what it looks like.
It’s been said on this site before - President Trump is the most consequential American president in our lifetime.
It’s a new world.
I am curious of MAGA is going to follow Trump in these foreign engagements he is embarkiing on. Maduro is gone, but his regieme is still in power. However Trump is telling US energy companies they will now have access to Venesuelan oil. At the same time, the Venesuelan opposition is not going to be allowed to take over. This woman who was Vice president under Maduro is nothing but a Cuban communist agent of Putin
ReplyDeleteDid Trump trade not suppporting Ukraine for Putin giving Trump a free hand in Venesuela?
How does all this look as the Venesuelan people do not seem to benifit from any of this? I thought the goals of the United States was to promote peace, freedom and democracy.
However, the only benifit I see so far is that the US is regaining access to Venesuela's oil
@6:29
DeleteYour comment speaks to a level of ignorance that is simply astonishing. Its value is significant in its representation of exactly how utterly misguided and completely simply minded a segment of the population remains regarding the complex and dangerous nature of international politics.
Thanks for the reminder.
anon@5:02: Although Maduro was repressive, the same cannot be said for the leadership in Greenland. Being emboldened by Venezuela can only make Trump more irrational. I suspect that down the road your job of defending him will become more convoluted.
ReplyDeleteanon@5:08: It has been said on this site before by you. Most of. you parrots say the same thing over and over.
. . . . and you never explain your motives and goals.
DeleteAs far as I’m concerned, the current administration is making real progress recovering from the damage done by Obama and Biden. We are in a much-needed rebuild that will take years to complete.
THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO START OVER !
There is no benefit to American citizens to knee cap the Trump Administration for the next three years by continuing to place unnecessary, sometimes childlike, roadblocks in their way. Improvements are already many. No laws are being broken, if you believe so, then name them.
No parroting here. Just logical thinking.
MM, it’s you repeating the same simplistic bromines again and again. I am befuddled and concerned by your current obsession.
Deletemj adams.
adams@10:19: after writing a post everyday for 18+ years it get to be a habit. I find invading a country and saying that we're going to take its oil more compelling than Allentown operating without a budget for six days.
DeleteTrump sadly is just more transparent than his predecessors, who veiled their interventions under the cloak of democracy and human rights. Every president, Bush1, Bush 2, Clinton, Obama, and Biden have conducted foreign policy in similar fashion, just more subtle and with excuses to justify their actions. I am not defending Trump just pointing out that the U.S. foreign policy is now a policy of plunder and naked power., because we can.
ReplyDeleteI suspect the next president no matter who, will behave in the same fashion, this foreign policy will continue until it no longer can.
Ray, sir, while it remains to be seen how the strategic outcome of Trump’s bold actions in the recent operations in Iran and now Nicaragua will play out the brilliance and concise tactical pieces are light years ahead of his predecessors.
DeleteYour analysis is way off base and doesn’t merit further discussion.
Ray, our nation is being attacked, weakened in so many different ways. This is unprecedented due to the rising influence of a globalist governance model. That model attempts to eliminate individual nation states,
ReplyDeleteTo achieve their goal, globalists first create chaos inside their targeted nation. That usually includes flooding sovereign borders with non-citizens. Obviously, we’ve seen that right here under Obama and Biden. Europe, in this same manner, is almost totally lost to globalism.
I thoroughly REJECT the notion that citizen voting in America (or any other country) is rendered meaningless in favor of some elite group of money changers from around the world.
I hardly believe Trump supports globalism. That’s what an America First doctrine is all about.
7.39, Is the U.s. government instrumental in the so called globalist agenda, the migration into Europe was caused by the chaos and disruption of the governments of the middle east and of course their ill advised migration laws. Every president including the Bush's encouraged illegal immigration except Trump.
DeleteThe default policies of the recent government of the U.s. has caused lots of chaos and death and destruction. We will see if Trump will change those policies.
@7:39 "Globalism" is not our enemy. Trump sending in Delta Force to take out foreign leaders who will not play ball with him strikes directly at the basis of what the United States stands for. Peace,, liberty,.. freedom and democratic forms of government
DeleteWhy is Trump not allowing elections in Venesuela? He wasn't interested in that. Trump was negotiating with Maduro for months to restore US energy companies access to Venesuelan oil. In exchange he would loosen our economic sanctions on Venesuela.
Maduro didn't want to play ball with Trump, so Trump sent in Delta Force. Game over. Maduro's in a NYC jail and and this Cuban babe who Maduro selected as VP is now running the country. No one ever elected her.
Only as long as she plays ball with Trump or he sends Delta Force back in and she's gone also. What about the Democratic opposition to Maduro? Trump says she doesn't have the support.
Who the hell is Trump to determine who has the support of the Venesuelan people????
Funny, The US used to stand for elections and democracy. At least the US that I grew up in.
Globalization IS the enemy of the American economy and people, full stop.
DeleteAmerican greatness has American influence and interests at its core values.
Trump is engaged in the international power politics of the contemporary world as a great power must.
This is the very nature of Great Power Politics.
Trump is clearly challenging the ineffectual status quo of his predecessors.
The belief that US foreign policy was ever driven by the pretty window dressing of “freedom and democracy” on the world stage is a delusional fantasy unpinned by a gross misunderstanding of history that is as dangerous as it is fanciful.
It is a cruel farce.
Trump is addressing decades of malfeasance in foreign policy.
Brent, our own elections have been tampered with for years.
DeleteRead “she doesn’t have the support” as she doesn’t have the support of the army, an absolute fact and essential piece for some semblance of a working pragmatic arrangement to move into transitional phase. Elements of the current structure will play ball under the right circumstances.
DeleteThe lessons of excluding and purging the Baathists in Iraq has been learned.
anon@7:39: regardless of any replies, I will not be hosting more of your globalist nonsense and tropes.
ReplyDeleteBTW, no family is profiting around the world more than the Trumps.
Mike, you are truly out to lunch on geopolitical actions, so you once again choose to run and hide. So sad.
DeleteI would like to hear from a legitimate expert on international affairs as it relates to energy policy and resources. I’m waiting for Hunter Biden to weigh in. His expertise as a energy consultant at the highest level of government is unparalleled.
DeleteMikhail Molovinski the Dour and Misguided BUTTINSKY refuses to report on Coddled Cousin and pusillanimous putz Synaptic CEO and Robata sake guzzler's recent DUI charges. What arrangements do you have with Uber nervy aka Synaptic one and his minions? Inquiring minds want to know...
ReplyDeletecomment from anon@8:26: we can't tell who this "anonymous" comment is from, but I can say that Bill Villa uses all those slurs about me. I can also say that over the decade I have received hundreds of anonymous comments with the same slurs. I can also say that recently Bill Villa has been sending me emails wanting me to report about a DUI charge against another person.
Deleteanon@7:55: At least I don't comment anonymously, but wait, I know, you have a job, a house, a wife, children and a pet which all need protection....from who we don't know, but I'm the one running and hiding :)
ReplyDeleteMichael, as someone who I have respected over many years to bring a thoughtful discussion to the table
Deleteon a plethora of issues I, too, am utterly perplexed at your inability to rise above the most simplistic knee jerk rhetoric regarding national politics in general and foreign policy in particular.

mj adams - we are witnessing the effects of modern day propaganda. Ever since Obama changed the original Smith-Mundt Act, we’ve been bombarded with slant over truth.
DeleteUnfortunately, few Americans dig beneath the headlines. They just suck up ‘news’ that essentially is being used against them. Most just don’t care enough to validate what they see and hear.
The military aspects of the nicaraguan intervention was nothing short of operational logistical and tactical brilliance.
ReplyDeletemj adams@11:13: At least I'm not making national policy decisions based on Fox news broadcasts. Supposedly, Trump never takes advantage of intelligence briefings, and reacts to the last thing he heard.
ReplyDeleteFor those disappointed in my perception of events, there is no shortage of alternative blogs where your insights can be placed.
MM, for the record, I don’t rely on any of the corporate MSM outlets, public or commercial, for guidance on foreign policy matters, including Fox News.
ReplyDeleteThat should be obvious, but here’s a clarification.
There is plenty of excellent information out there for anyone interested in intelligent analysis from independent, overlapping, conflicting, partisan and non partisan perspectives.

As a 35 year long, local career educator I will tell you the process doesn’t work without willing students. Thus, the need for anonymity in our broken society today.
DeleteThe complex use of ground, naval, air, and space based assets, military and civilian, LE, Intelligence, and Armed Forces, is nothing short of absolutely astonishing.
ReplyDeleteWhatever one thinks of the Orange One we have all, along with the rest of the world, witnessed something truly extraordinary by any metric.
dont forget tons of cash and the willing turn over of Maduro by his vice president and no military resistance.
Deleteanon@1:12: most reports indicate that the Venezuelan army stood down, and the only resistance was from his Cuban bodyguards. My intent is not to disparage our forces, but "absolutely astonishing" seems a stretch.
ReplyDeleteI have been receiving comments about past operations in Nicaragua, they are off topic and will not be printed.
And do your sources indicate precisely why the Venezuela Armed Forces suddenly “stood down” at that specific moment in time? This is a matter of considerable importance, is it not?
ReplyDeleteThis is astonishing information.
My wording at 1:39 was misleading. "Most" reports do NOT indicate that the Venezuelan army stood down, but never-the-less, I stand by my comment. It explains how there were only 24 Venezuelan causalities, despite heavy US air fire. The Cubans lost more personnel defending Maduro at his residence. I suspect more will be said about the actual amount of resistance in coming weeks.
