There is a commotion in the Allentown Democratic Party over the candidate for the special election to replace resigning Josh Siegel. Siegel is moving on to be Lehigh County Executive, having handily defeated Roger MacLean.
The above referenced commotion is that the selection process being utilized supposedly favors Julian Guridy. For the next regular election of District 22, Guridy will face Ce-Ce Gerlach in the primary.
While several other candidates, activist Lewis Shupe among them, wished to be considered for the special election appointment, there is an irony not being discussed elsewhere. This old blogger remembers why the 22nd District was created in the first place...it was to represent the growing Hispanic Community. The first victor was the very un-Histpanic Pete Schweyer. After another redistricting, very un-Hispanic Josh Siegel won the spot.
It is assumed that the Republicans will be a no show for the special election (and the regular to follow), and that the appointee will have a heads up for the next regular primary in May.
shown above is Ce-Ce Gerlach welcoming a Buffalo Soldier Motorcycle Club member to a street fair she organized in 2013.

How anyone could vote for Cece Gerlach for any position is beyond me. She is remedial and an embarrassment to Allentown. She should pack her bags and leave
ReplyDeleteanon@7:44: I've known Ce-Ce for many years, before she ran the first time for school board. Although she is miles to my left, Julian Guridy (and his father) will not take her for granted. Nobody outworks her on the campaign trail.(although they can outspend her)
ReplyDeleteIt’s heartwarming to see a Guridy dynasty emerging.
DeleteJeez, you’d think after all this time Louis would understand that the party apparatus is rotten to the core.
DeleteOh, I know all right. I have watched it all for many years.
DeleteRigging primary elections. Seems to be the democrat way the last decade or so.
ReplyDeleteFirst, you had the “super-delegates” to make sure Hilary beat Bernie in 2016. Then the order of state primaries was changed to benefit Biden. Then Kamala got the nomination in 2024 without receiving a single vote.
It’s really not surprising that this is happening now in a lowly state house race. They’re just following the lead of their mentors at the national level.
The R Party doesn’t exist in the urban wasteland of the once Queen City. The D Party is a slimy snake pit of incompetence and buffoonery wallowing in the legacy of the Pawlowski regime and awash in the pipe dream haze of all things NIZ.
ReplyDeleteI blame the Russians - the Russians and Trump.
The state democratic exit committee makes the decision. The county only recommends. The state wants to have a rep in place who knows the state legislature rules and regulations. That is thair main concern.
ReplyDeleteThe state democratic committee exists for self perpetuation.
DeleteThe Pennsylvania Democratic Party is one of the most anti-democratic institutions in the entire country.
You got that exactly right
DeleteSome conservative candidates ran for council as Democrats knowing that running as a Republican is futile.
ReplyDeleteI would like to suggest to the Republican commenters, that ranting on and on about how bad the Democrats are, may not serve your purpose. In reality, the Republican victories in 2024 were quite narrow.
ReplyDeleteI’m not now, nor have I ever been, a Republican. I’ve been politically active since the Tet Offensive.
DeleteTrump ran the table against the pathetic, corrupt, corporate Democrats.

That will be remedied in '26 and'28.
DeleteThank you for your insights on local Lehigh County and Allentown news and events.
ReplyDeleteJulio has had an outsized influence on the local Dem establishment since before he was seated next to candidate Barack Obama on that stage at the fairgrounds.
ReplyDeleteHe has the time (no show job), money and insider chops to put his boy in the catbird seat.
The fix is in.
Julio was gifted his political fat cat gig on the Bridge Commission.
DeleteIt is like winning the lottery.
Julio is the long time fav Allentown Puerto Rican political player, even though he’s a Dominican and he’s from Bethlehem.
ReplyDeleteI can feel the excitement for a President Gavin Newsom building day by day.
ReplyDeleteCan't we get back to Trump's appointees? :)
