There is probably nobody reading this who knows less about Amanda Seyfried and Charlie Kirk than me. I never saw a Amanda Seyfried movie, and I never heard a Charlie Kirk podcast. I actually never even heard of Kirk prior to his murder.
I did however know that Seyfried grew up in Allentown, and attended William Allen High School. Although she has made it clear that she abhors anybody being the victim of violence, she has pushed back for not apologizing about saying that Kirk made hateful statements.
Kirk has been lionized by both Trump and Vance. Jimmie Kimmel was suspended from his show for not showing due reverence to the shooting. Likewise, Trump has been criticized for his reaction to the Reiner deaths. This post isn't to keep score regarding sensitivity, or lack thereof. Suffice to say that it is something which is hard to have too much of.

Amanda Seyfried is an idiot, and not even for her Kirk smears.
ReplyDeleteShe recently went on another misinformed rant, saying that socialism is a “gorgeous idea”, and that it’s about “taking care of each other”.
Unless Ms. Seyfried is referring to “taking care” of people in the mafia sense of the phrase, her comments couldn’t be more ignorant, or dangerous. Socialism is responsible for more deaths than any other political system in history.
I don’t know if Ms. Seyfried slept through that class in high school, or if it’s just her Allen High diploma showing it’s worth. Either way, she gets my nomination for the 2025 “Airhead of Allentown” award. She certainly deserves it.
I knew that Charlie Cook was some type of political advocate and headed some Conservative political group, however I paid little attention to him as I do not follow political organizers.
ReplyDeleteThen he was shot and a floodgate of Charlie Cook this and Charlie Cook that dominated the news and I quickly got tired of the lionization of Charlie Cook. This went on for weeks it seemed far longer than I thought it was necessary, and finally the news cycle moved on. Then his widowed wife got on and it kept going on. I discovered other things to watch on television so I would no longer have to sit though this orgy of Charlie Cook again. Now it has finally passed and I hope it does not start up again.
Amanda Syfield is a close relative of a childhood friend of mine I grew up with. I know of her, however I know very little about her, she sings and entertains and as far as I know, stays out of the publc eye mostly keeping her private life private.

Actors, real estate magnates, steelworkers, and plumbers should have their political views weighed equally. Right or wrong (I'm generally disposed to dislike her, but think she's right about Kirk), she should not influence anyone's views.

Michael, I’m curious why you even bother posting anonymous rantings. Seems to me that a position whose author is unwilling to endorse is one not worth posting at all.

DeleteM McIntyre@10:33: I've been wrestling with that question for many years. If you check around the blogosphere, you'll find that "anonymous" makes up about 95% of the comments. Readers do enjoy blogs and sites with comments. Even on national pages, most of the comment are anonymous. Like you, I have never submitted anywhere without my name.
