Hegseth has responded by moving the assignment from the Navy to the Marines.
Meanwhile, back here in Allentown, hundreds of people lined Cedar Crest Blvd. for the No Kings Day protest. Ryan Mackenzie's office has become ground zero for locals expressing themselves against the Trump administration. I believe that others from different segments across the government will start coming forward in resignation and protest. Hegseth and the administration only has so many fingers to plug the leaks.
I'm not here to be polite
These occasional street gatherings to protest are puzzling to me. First of all, the protesters are shown to primarily consist of mostly White, retirement-aged women. Why so little representation from younger adults and persons of other colors?
ReplyDeleteCan't understand the end goal objectives, either. Does that list include resignations, indictments, prison terms, etc. How will these "concerned citizens" know their efforts were successful? There must be a few markers to indicate progress.
A commenter elsewhere pointed out, in real life, a nation led by an actual King-like despot would never allow such public gatherings to occur in the first place. Try doing this in a place like North Korea.
At least the folks had nice weather, Bless their Hearts.
anon@12:53: The markers are called "mid-terms"
ReplyDeleteWell if these “protests” were about midterms then they were an abject failure.
DeleteSend the Drug Runners to Davy Jones locker.
ReplyDeletePower to the people, especially the older blue hairs, right on!
I always thought that the Fourth of July was No Kings Day?
ReplyDelete“….innocent lives.”
ReplyDeleteI love that part.
anon@5:18AM: If I was Mackenzie, I'd be nervous. If not nervous about the protesters, then nervous about sticker shock....$35 lb. steak, and $50K cars.
ReplyDeleteDJT needs to invoke the insurrection act pronto, these deranged ANTIFA foot soldiers are needing to be swept up and transferred to CECOT where they can live out the balance of their miserable lives under the watchful eyes of Commander Bukele
ReplyDeleteWow, for doing what exactly? Enjoying their freedom of speech? To peacefully protest? Those of you who support this abomination action of an administration, must have some miserable you know what going on in your lives to make you support this morally bankrupt criminal and pedophile.
Delete…and do what? Do a fly over and dump *hit on his constituents? And believe me, Trump knows how to deal in *hit. He’s bringing us all down into his level and wallowing into it.
DeleteMy mother went and she is NOT ANTIFA!!!
DeleteThis second Trump term is the worst in modern history.
DeleteDon’t blame me - I voted Harris/Walls.
anon@5:04: In addition to innocent, the Admiral also referred to principles.
ReplyDeleteanon@6:03: Your neighbors lining Cedar Crest Blvd. hardly belong to any. group, much less ANTIFA
I would expect that most of them do belong to unions, especially government unions. which often encourage these protests, and of course, it is all about the midterms.
ReplyDeleteAs for the attacks on boats in the western Caribbean they are near 1200 miles for the U.S. and are unlikely headed for the U.S.
Mexico, Canada and Columbia are for more involved in the drug trade, so this is an excuse to attempt to control Venezuelan oil, a bad idea, as it will further alienate much of Latin America, even though many don't especially like Maduro.
The democrat's have no program or policy, still stuck on anti Trump. if they really believe that supporting illegal immigration, benefits for aliens and no enforcement of law in the cities, good luck, they are on the wrong side of history.
Mackenzie seems to be sleeping through all this. Democrats do indeed have a program and they aren’t going to be tricked into some fake, “well fix it after we reopen” nonsense. It’s health care. And then it’s Epstein.
ReplyDeleteThe folks you say are "Standing up to Trump" appear to be almost always primarily Boomers. Very likely the most coddled generation ever is acting out with public temper tantrums. The demographic that holds the most wealth and asset is angry they lost a legitimate election. Most of America is looking at these privileged older whites and wondering if they have a life or are just confused. Mike, honestly, how many ordinary non Trumpers are persuaded to themselves hate Trump by by seniors shrieking on street corners holding placards and even wearing silly costumes? As a Republican I hope they keep this up. These protests coupled with their unbridled, red faced, spittle flying rage comes off to most of America as exactly what it is, "unhinged". Nobody likes that.
ReplyDeleteWhat remarkable arrogance you spew. Tough talk from a west-ender. It’s not a lost election, it’s a president who is not very smart to begin with who thinks he can act without his own congress. It’s about a congressman who obviously doesn’t care and is enjoying the ride. It’s about a spineless party who can’t be trusted to deliver truth anymore.
Delete8:52 - Do you mean a President like Democrat Joe Biden who forced people to get the covid jab or lose their livelihoods? The same president who coerced banks to de-bank their opponents and had tech companies limit opposing speech on their platforms? The same president that tried to establish his own Ministry of Truth?
DeleteOr are you talking about the party that tried to jail their political opponents, changed their primary rules to make sure Bernie Sanders didn't win and crowned the democrat nominee in the last presidential election without that candidate receiving a single primary vote?
anon comments NOT printed: The bar is low on this post, but there is still a bar
ReplyDeletescott@7:53: Standing up to Trump only referred to the Admiral, but there will be more, hopefully some congressmen.
You may dismiss the protesters on CedarCrest Ave. as "unhinged", but they will vote in the mid-terms.
Yes, they will vote in the midterms, like they voted in the last election. Women of a certain age are a reliable part of the Liberal Democrat Party base. They are the core of the Hillary/Harris/Palosi wing of the party.
DeleteOf course they will vote. Someone will be bringing them their mail-in ballot and promptly collecting it.
Well Senator Booker is standing up.
DeleteYou can count on him. Congressman Hakeem is another profile in courage. Chuck Schumer is steady as a rock, he’s even used the F word in a paid advertisement last week, so look out MAGA. I see resolve and integrity all around.
Fascism will NOT STAND!
Democracy will prevail.

ReplyDeleteMy oldest sister went, she is big on repealing the Second Amendment.
That’s always been her thing. She went with two friends from her Oprah Book Club. Those two each carried a flag, one was half RAINBOW/USA and the other said “You Will Not Erase Us”. I’m not entirely sure who they think is being erased.
I wasn’t going to ask.
All three wore Mexican Flag pins, they share the same Mexican lawn care guy, super hardworking and very affordable.
They love the guy and his crew.
I was going to tag along but I am having some trouble walking or standing for any length of time.
I think it’s fantastic that people are getting out there to support their commitment to an active democracy.
Of course, DO NOT PRINT this.
ReplyDeleteOnce again, Michael, when an open discussion starts to veer away from your personal beliefs you slink off using some lame excuse to shut it all down. Most replies get labeled off-topic, repetitive, and of no value because they are signed Anonymous.
Why are you so afraid of interplay with your readers? This projects weakness on your part.
A full and complete discussion of a timely topic has the potential to be educational for ALL contributors. There's value in that to all sides.
Without Anonymous comments (made with proper decorum) there is little value taking the time and effort contributing here.
Adams@8:51: You may try and paint the protesters as all older, deep blue women, but there were men there also, not hundreds, but thousands. Thank you for using your name, that's saying more than the other profiles in courage commenting here.
ReplyDeleteI find it funny that a protest supposedly about "No Kings" was sponsored by the Democrat Socialists of America and the communist party in America, and was funded by billionaires. Yes, the usual useful idiots turned out to what was nothing more than an organized political rally. Shocking.
ReplyDeleteMost normal people see through these extremist rallies and spent their day away from politics and with their families.
There seemed to be a lot of “normal people” at the rallies. What kind of normal are you?
DeleteThe kind of normal that doesn't associate with communists or other groups that want to destroy freedom.
DeleteNo more comments linking the protesters to communists will appear.
DeleteRegarding the protest on Cedar Crest, Salisbury or South Whitehall (not sure who has jurisdiction there) needs to do something about them. It is simply unsafe to have people lined up along a major roadway and cars having to slow down for them.
ReplyDeleteI saw at least one rear-end collision before the protest area that was caused by vehicles ahead that had to stop or slow down because of the protestors. It's only a matter of time before a pedestrian is hit in an area not intended for pedestrians.
While I don't agree with their protest, I don't want to see any of the protesters killed or injured. It doesn't seem like protest organizers have the same concern, or maybe they think that a death or injury is a small price to pay for additional publicity. Either way, the municipality with jurisdiction has an obligation for safety there. [Note: This also makes me wonder if the protest organizers obtained the proper permits for the rally, but that subject is outside of this comment]
If the protests need to be broken up and moved, that's fine. If the municipality has to close a portion of S. Cedar Crest during the protest in the name of safety, I'm fine with that also.
Safety should be top priority, even for the most ignorant among us.
The No Kings rally in Philadelphia accomplished at least one thing: hard working residents of center city were unable to commute to their primary or side hustle jobs on Saturday as transit was shut down and Uber un-authorized to enter center city.
