I would suppose that the infirmary on the aircraft carrier must almost be a small hospital. Rather than continue using that carrier task force to attack suspected drug smugglers, they should be diverted to provide aid to the devastation in Jamaica. News reports indicate that the smaller hospitals in the western part of the island have been destroyed.
Restoring electric and other infrastructure on Jamaica will be a monumental task. Although disaster aid is not a normal mission of the US Navy, neither is attacking civilian boats.
Trump is a showman. Let him redirect his show to where it is most needed. Maybe it will even help with his quest for medals and ribbons.
I'm not here to be polite or popular

Jamaica was claimed by Spain in the 1400's, then conquered by England who held on till 1962, so why not let one of them come to the rescue while we protect our own country?
ReplyDeleteI don’t know that just diverting an aircraft carrier off mission would be the best way to assist those impacted in Jamaica.
ReplyDeleteInstead, I would propose this:
Maybe the democrats should reopen the federal government so that our service members and civilian workforce can get paid.
Then we can talk about how to best assist Jamaica, using all the appropriate agencies of the government.
anon@8:01: Hegseth just got rid of another experienced general, and Trump wants to resume nuclear tests....who is going to safeguard our country from within?
ReplyDeleteWe SHOULD BE reducing the number of generals and admirals. Right now, there are more generals and admirals than we had in WWII, and they’re commanding far fewer troops.
DeleteThe numbers were greatly increased during the Obama years, and accelerated again under Biden. The reason? To implement the radical political agenda that took away from the focus on warfighting.
Instead of making our armed forces stronger, many of those promoted were there for things like making sure trans men could transition to female (on the taxpayer dime) and to enforce draconian “solutions” on those who refused to get the Covid jab.
At the same time, there was zero accountability for those who failed in their actual warfighting mission. If you doubt me, please name me one general or flag level officer who was fired for the fiasco that was our withdrawal from Afghanistan. 13 Marines lost their lives and BILLIONS of dollars worth of equipment were left behind for our enemy, and NOT ONE officer lost their job!
The general and admiral ranks need to be thinned and “right-sized”. My concern isn’t that it’s happening, it’s that it’s not happening quickly enough.
G_d willing Kamala Harris will run again.
Deleteanon@8:28: Prior to the shutdown, Trump and Musk already gutted the agencies which would have helped, such as USAID. In fairness, we done the same to our own, with cuts at FEMA.
ReplyDeleteUSAID was gutted for funding things like drag queen story hours in foreign countries.
DeleteThere are still legitimate agencies that can respond to natural disasters, both here and abroad.
But with the democrats holding the federal government hostage, they will be unable to respond.
USAID was conceived and implemented as an intelligence and espionage organization designed as the ultimate cover for black opps.
DeleteThat is the simple truth.
Unlike the past administration, this one can walk and chew gum at the same time. As far as FEMA goes, Trump is reducing its federal role and increasing state control of disaster relief. Funds that would have gone to the Fed agency will now be directed to states, who many agree can more effectively deal with disasters in their own state.
ReplyDeleteanons 8:59 & 9:02: If I was just spouting MAGA talking points, I too would be anonymous :)
ReplyDeleteGeneral McGee just got pushed out of the Pentagon for speaking against the attacks on civilian boats.
We're going to be sending several dozen disaster workers to Jamaica, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic.
Fuck McGee.
DeleteSTOP THE FENTANYL TRADE!
If the General can’t do the job and take out those who would do harm to the country, I’d say he’s lucky to be leaving with his pension.
DeleteMaybe he’d feel better with more Americans dead from the drug trade, but I wouldn’t.
And his departure is not just Trump, Hegseth, and the strikes on the gun ships. The current chairman of the JCOS has been frustrated with McGee moving too slow on several issues.
Bottom line, he was apparently a darling of the Biden admin, probably was promoted too quickly, and can’t keep up in a military focused on warfighting. It happens, and it’s time for him to walk out into his sunset.
I also realize that anyone who says anything against Trump policy (or is even “rumored” to be against it) is automatically given more credibility by anti-Trumpers, but I don’t think McGee has more knowledge about the boat situation than those above him.
McGee is getting cut from a bloated number of generals. He won’t be the last. He’s not the second coming of McArthur, and the military will function just fine without him.
