LehighValleyNews.com wrote a piece wondering about Ed Zucal's campaign...They think that he's missing in action. Ed is on the ballot, and not missing. Here are some future appointments to his kabinet.
Kat Kyman will be Director of Kommunity Development. NIZ won't be the only initials in town.
Luke Lolovinsky will be Director of Parks, he's already sourcing Weeping Willows.
The bureau and positions of Inclusion will be cut back, but the Neighborhood Groups will get a seat at the table.
The police department will become less culturally sensitive and start issuing parking tickets for double parking, and will give those violators a good looking over. Car stereos, which can be heard before they are seen, will be ticketed.
Mayor Zucal will not be making fact finding trips to the Caribbean, nor raising flags of every country with a denizen in Allentown.
Allentown may not again become the All American City, but it will be an American city.
If Mayor Zucal manages to get Nat Hyman to take over community development….he has my vote !
ReplyDeleteA Zucal, Hyman, Molovinsky slate would win in a landslide
ReplyDeleteanon@6:56: I don't know about that, but if elected, we and many others would provide whatever input he requested.
DeleteThis post, and the two or three before it, reminded me of something at the national level.
ReplyDeleteLess than a year ago, elected democrats in Washington were telling us that their either was no border crisis or that it couldn’t be fixed without action from Congress (or more money, or amnesty, or this excuse or that excuse). What we found out was that the problem could be solved, and solved fairly quickly with the political will to get it done.
I’m not mentioning that to debate national politics, but rather to point out the similarities locally in Allentown. There is always an excuse for the way things are or why they can’t be fixed. Yet as today’s post alludes to, putting people that can recognize the problems and do something about them would quickly fix many of our ills.
Maintaining the parks the way they were built, doing something positive about the homeless or ticketing double-parkers might sound trivial, but they’re steps in the right direction.
Overall, a desire to make the city a law-abiding one starts with the little things that pays big dividends.
Police are overwhelmed because too many “little things” have been ignored for too long. Initially, ignoring some things might seem to work, but soon more people start ignoring the “little things” or “little laws” that they don’t like, or those that still care leave and are gradually replaced by those that don’t. So now you have more people that are breaking the “little laws” about “little things”. And the police get more overwhelmed.
We need a mayor and elected officials that will pay attention to detail and enforce our local laws. It’s not rocket science, but it takes the will to want to do it and the political courage to take the heat while things are being fixed.
This has been my message for the past thirty some years. Almost always the message fell on deaf eyes, however the ears have never been this deaf.
DeleteAllentown government needs less social advocacy, less virtue signaling, less coddling and less celebrating diversity and more quality delivery of services and law enforcement for all residents. While he's a long shot, I'm really excited about voting for Zucal because I think a return to quality delivery of services and emphasis on law enforcement is best for all Allentown residents.
DeleteYes Mike I’m vert much alive. I have a new strategy for the General Election. Also, I’ve been busy meeting with folks in the community. A part of my strategy is not to entertain all of the media nonsense like Lehigh Valley News put together in their article a couple of days ago. My campaign manager and I discussed what we feel caused the results in the Primary Election. The old saying live and learn. I wanted to comment on Anon: 9:54. I don’t know if he realized it or not but exactly what he states is exactly the Principal of the Broken Windows Theory. I have been relaying this since the inception of my campaign bid for Mayor. Regarding the police getting overwhelmed this morning two more officially retired at 11:30. I am told by my inside sources several more are coming by the end of the year. I can tell you first hand having been someone who did police backgrounds it takes time to replace retiree’s. One of the ways I would handle that situation is through restructuring which I’m not going to get into now. As far renaming folks to leadership roles I would probably name Kat Kyman as Deputy Mayor. That way if something were to happen to me the city would be in good hands. I have a special position for Mr. Lolovinsky!
ReplyDeleteI’m the guy who bought George Kelling, one of the two theorists behind the “Broken Window Theory”, to town for several days of consulting and public speaking in my role as the Educational Coordinator for the Coalition for Better Neighborhoods, twenty odd years ago.
DeleteI’m an Allentown native who has since relocated. I give my enthusiastic support Ed Zucal in his race for mayor.
Apologies for the oversight in not including my name.

There is a lot of support here in the city for Ed.
