Last week I reported that the Morning Call was taking back their story about the immigrant deported to Guatemala by ICE, bit by bit. They started doing this after a national columnist, who the Call themselves have used in the past, reported that the story was fake. The columnist, Jonathan Turley, wrote that newspapers can't resist overlooking usual verification when the subject matter is ICE, or other social justice issues...It's called advocacy journalism. In the current MC article, the paper simply states, The Morning Call has since unpublished those stories based on additional information that has come to light. While the original story was signed by reporter names, the current article is signed Morning Call staff.
MM, you knowledge of Allentown’s parks is extraordinary. Your dedication to the parks is phenomenal.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Know that you are appreciated.5
Allentown needs more alternative media, the journalist and their employers have for too long failed us.
ReplyDeleteThe market for hardcopy newspapers has passed. I don't know the economics for the digital versions. Years ago Allentown had two beat reporters, they were biased, but they did have institutional knowledge. In more recent years, we had a series of one young reporter after another, all from out of town. I've been dealing with city hall for over 50 years, so it's a little harder to pull the wool over my eyes.
DeleteThe Morning Call is not the best place to get accurate political news. Use it for the Comics, the Puzzles, etc. Political articles and references it chooses to offer are generally half truths meant to shape the news, not just relay what actually happened. Use caution.
DeleteAnd, may I add, the MC has gotten too expensive to line your bird cage!!!
DeleteMike much respect. Thank you for the plug. I just want to keep people informed about some things you might not be aware off.
ReplyDeleteMolovinsky on Allentown has exhibited more integrity courage and honesty than the entire last generation of Morning Call staffers combined.
ReplyDeleteA Pulitzer Prize in Journalism for it!
All the very best to Honest Abe. I will be checking in daily.
