I didn't vote for Fetterman, and at the time of his election, it was hard for me to understand why anybody would have chose him over Oz. But then again, being an independent, I underestimate party loyalty.
However, since his victory, I have become somewhat of a fan. Overcoming the effects of a stroke is hard enough work, without being in the public spotlight. Going public with any malady, much less depression, also requires courage.
He is now combating accusations of poor attendance. His independence from the party platform on several items, while a positive with me, hasn't helped his predicament. If he was a representative who had to run again next year, I'd consider him a long shot. But he's a senator, with over three years left to reestablish his popularity.
I believe Senator Fetterman has worn out his welcome with the national Democratic party. Not knowing a lot about him when he was elected, or Oz for that matter, I believed he would just be another unremarkable Democrat like Casey was in the Senate.
ReplyDeleteI was very wrong.
Senator Fetterman is very much his own man and not a party apparatchik as Casey was. That is a reason why he is facing criticisim from the Democrats. He is more like the Democrats of the 80s and 90s, and not one of the woke party lemmings of today. I wish him well.
I love John Fetterman. I didn't when he initially ran but have grown to admire his fierce independence. When he attended the second inauguration of the Orange God King wearing his trademark hoodie and workout shorts that honestly sealed the deal for me. I disagree with pretty much all of his politics (except support of Israel) but I don't let political beliefs cloud my judgement of others. John's a real person, something sorely missing in the ranks of the electeds. I hope he stays in public office as long as he desires and inspires more genuine people to seek elected office.
ReplyDeleteDo not underestimate the power of incumbency. Fetterman is unique. He does seem to be his own man. He has positions that appeal to both liberal and conservative. Alot depends on the opponent in any primary. In a general election, he wins easily. By the way, Casey was as empty a suit as one could find. Complete waste of a senate seat. His family name and the dem machine carried that lead weight for a long time.
ReplyDeleteIt’s a good sign whenever a Fetterman or some other politician breaks out of the ultra-Liberal chokehold that has been holding this country hostage while America remains on an attempted overthrow of this nation.
ReplyDeleteThis is NOT some conspiracy theory, as more citizens are beginning to realize. The corruption of our elected officials, disregard of Constitutional laws by overreaching courts and nefarious actions throughout our Justice Department are now too common to overlook.
As much as I like the way Fetterman talks at times, he still votes like a progressive democrat.
ReplyDeleteWhile I acknowledge he sometimes votes opposite of the majority of his party when the outcome has already been determined, I don’t know of any vote he took where he was outside the party position when it mattered.
I suppose time will tell if he actually is an independent thinker, or just doing what is in his political best interests. Right now I see his public comments as simply positioning himself as a moderate for re-election campaign in a purple state.
The stroke seems to have turned him into a common sense, level headed thinker. No wonder his fellow Democrats want him gone.
ReplyDeleteI didn’t vote for Fetterman, however I’ve become a fan.
DeleteI like the way he thinks, but I still think the surfer-dude shorts and hoodie keep constituents from taking him seriously. Absenteeism is even worse. Coming from education it’s hard enough to convince kids that if you can’t dress for the job you’re probably not going to get it. And if you can’t show up you won’t get to keep it. It seems he could adapt some adult compromise. And show up- you have to show up. I think he’ll have a tough time getting re-elected.
ReplyDeleteIf the Democrats want him, the Democrats will see that he’s re-elected. If you get my drift.
DeleteHe voted to allow boys into girls locker rooms and sports teams. No hero to me.
