Trump withdrew Elise Stefanik from her United Nations consideration, deciding he better keep her vote in Congress, although that part of New York state has been reliably red. While commenters on this blog maintain that Republicans are on board with the Trump show so far, the boss isn't as sure. He doesn't want to take a chance on a special election, even in a red district.
Although I occasionally can't resist replying to an absurd comment, generally, I let my readers rant on unanswered. However, I have no doubt that they're in for a rude awakening. Trump and his appointees can say that security leaks are a hoax, or that disagreeing judges should be impeached, but only those with red hats glued to their heads are buying it.
In Florida's upcoming special election, the Republican is polling and fund raising considerably less than he should be in his bright red district. While my readers may still be gulping the kool-aid, even Trump senses the shift.
I think Trump senses the reality that the NY governor would have left the seat vacant for as long as possible.
ReplyDeleteThat’s why the decision was made yesterday, and it’s a smart move by Trump (and Speaker Johnson)
I always questioned this administration nominating any house members for cabinet posts. the numbers are so close that any untimely deaths, particularly in blue states, could quickly shift the balance of power. A few untimely deaths would undoubtedly be cheap collateral damage in a divided political situation.
ReplyDeleteYou are correct, Americans are not ready to make any cuts to anything, willingly. The cuts are coming from economic reality no matter who is power. The gravy train is derailing.
Nick Fuéntes would be. A better choice for U.N secretary
ReplyDeleteMike, only three years and nine months left of the Trump Administration. It will fly by.
ReplyDeletescott@7:37: On that note, we need air traffic controllers for the airport's safety, and the press and judges for democracy.
DeleteNo doubt! Do you honestly believe the current administration does not care about air traffic safety? Were you also worried about the past administration using DEI in hiring of both air traffic controllers and pilots? If the left really believed it wasn't safe top travel that would be above the fold instead of the signal gate screw up. One more thing, isn't is funny how the Dems now love judges?
DeleteAgree. Air Traffic Controllers who were at the top of their class and highly qualified. A press that presents both sides of an issue and rarely censors as a weapon. Judges who closely follow the Constitution, do not legislate from the bench by going outside their areas of responsibility.
DeleteAnd the point is? We get it, you knew the last Admin and its hand selected candidate were not fit. You like most of your readers also recognize Trump is not a great guy, but he was the better of two bad alternatives. What has he done that he did not say he was going to do? So why kvetch? Even his bluster is a bit toned down, but still crude for my tastes.
ReplyDeleteIt is your forum so you choose the topics and comment as you wish, but there should be a goal to it, don't you agree? YOu have been the best watchdog of the NIZ shenanigans so I very much appreciate your perspective in most instances. However, there are times it loses any punch. E.g., your posts about old facades, yes, maybe they were nice at one time, but a rotten building is not capable of being saved especially if market conditions make it unfeasible.
A curmudgeon has a point to make. A crank just complains. You are better as the former. I and your readers want that Molovinsky.
Have a great weekend.
anon@8:31: There was no building on Hamilton Street that was rotten, but I concede that older buildings are harder to conform to new office fashion. Truth be told, Browne and Reilly made the NIZ much more friendly to new construction. Consequently, downtown Allentown is devoid of charm, an urban office park.
DeleteReaders are appreciated, but at the end of the day I don't dance for them or comments.
Headline from today: Trump's Approval Rating On the Economy Hits New Low, Polls Show.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Mike, the hard core Trump cult followers are all in, but average, everyday Americans are beginning to lose confidence in his handling of the economy. He told us he would lower prices and all he is doing is causing prices to increase, lowering consumer confidence and generating economic uncertainly, which is crushing the stock market, which was doing great under Joe Biden.
It’s amateur hour again at the Trump White House. Again, with the motto of the cabinet secretaries, “I don’t recall.” And the white bros are having fun chatting, and high-fiving each other. And Trump thinks Hegseth looks strong because he lies aggressively.
ReplyDeleteThe levels of corruption in government and wasteful spending of our tax dollars is absolutely stunning. Trump is working hard on OUR behalf to fix this. It will take time to clean up and I’m more than willing to wait. Watch the Musk interview with Brett Bair.
ReplyDeleteIf you think Trump is working hard for YOU...you're naive. Get ready to stockpile toilet paper...apparently his tarriffs are going to cause major impacts on the supplies used for its manufacture...toilet paper will be harder to find and cost more...just one of hundreds of new inconveniences and increased costs brought to US by Trump.
DeleteJust like Allentown, ALL government crap will get waaay worse before it begins to improve. It's going to be hell for a period to get the place flying straight again. It took many a year to get to this point and will take the same amount of time to right the ship.
ReplyDeleteAnyone that likes the wasteful spending of our tax dollars needs to take a good long look in the mirror. Wake up, people... when the government outspends it's self, it only goes to the well (YOU AND ME) for more tax dollars. When I run out of money, I can't spend. Government should be the same!!!
I happen to like closed, secure national borders. No men in women’s sports, avoiding being drawn into needless warfare between other nations, abortion going back to each state to determine, etc.
ReplyDeleteThe automatic Trump haters need to step back and consider what losing control of Congress actually means. That means a 3 year stall in progress followed by a return to the above, and other problems created by the last guys.
Not a Trump hater, in fact, I don't hate anyone. I'm just a regular American who is very, very concerned about our economy falling into a recession, plummeting consumer confidence, looming scarcity of goods and services, and of course dramatically higher prices on everything.
Deleteanon@1:12: Unfortunately, the country had gotten so polarized that people think you either are a MAGA or a Trump hater....as for true independents like myself, people can't conceive of not being either a D or R. Anywho, my problem with Musk's chainsaw is not the cuts to the work force, but to the functionality of the departments. There is no command Z to restore... that will take years. Besides the border beef-up, everything else has been a disaster.
DeleteActually, if you view that interview mentioned earlier with the 7 member DOGE team, the opposite is true. I’m an older Senior and an Independent. I like what Musk is trying to do and his reasoning.
DeleteWords can’t express the amount that I miss the Biden/Harris administration. It will go down in history as one of the best four years working Americans and their families have ever had.
ReplyDeleteReally 12:40??? What planet are you on???
Deleteanon@1:59: " This one should likely stay out of the comment section." It is unclear to me your preference on that comment?
ReplyDeleteI’m not a Trump hater. I am a senior. The Dow is at -741. Every time this guy opens his mouth it goes lower. And Trump says American business are thanking him. He’s delusional. American growth stocks are going into negative territory. Does he think we don’t see the numbers??
ReplyDeleteYou probably didn’t notice, just a few days ago, the Dow (just 30 of all stocks) was up about 550. This coming Monday it could go up big again. That’s what growth stock funds do.
DeleteIn this international investment climate, I’d keep only a small percentage of my holdings in stocks. But, over its entire life, the Dow has averaged up about 7.5 % per year. Be patient.
You know, my house COULD burn down tomorrow. That’s why I’m careful with combustibles and buy home insurance.
Anon@March28/2:50PM
DeleteI’m not a Trump hate either and I am 74. After only a few months in office I feel like everything in my life is way worse now than it was when President Biden was in office.
I pray that DEMOCRACY and our country can survive four more years.
First of all, America is not a Democracy. It is a Constitutional Republic. If we were a true Democracy, the 10 biggest cities would decide what happens with everyone living in all other cities.
DeleteI am curious what some of the things in your life are now so much worse than before Trump. I can understand your uneasiness with fears about a temporary decline in the equity portion of your savings. Were you all in CDs, you are still making gains.
Seems to me, dangerous gang members and drug cartels are being removed from the country. That’s good!
Inflation is not nearly as bad as we are being told. We’ve had periods of even higher inflation. This, too, shall pass if we get energy prices down and under our nation’s own control.
Medical costs are certainly higher. We rightly should question that necessity, though, as we can all see new medical building construction on nearly every street corner. Those folks seem to be flush with money they don’t even know how to spend!
Jobs openings are reportedly difficult for employers to fill. That’s a positive for those still willing to work.
Outrageously high spending by our government without oversight is being identified by DOGE. Heck, they’ve even found thousands of children under age 11 were given Small Business Loans! Cutting out that kind of waste and abuse should help make federal taxpayer dollars stretch further.
I could go on and on, but this isn’t the place. I’m glad Mr. Molovinsky prints the opposing views he already does! Other Blogs and certainly the bigger news media is heavily involved in censorship. So we don’t always get to hear the hard TRUTHS.
I am also 74, registered Independent, and are pretty happy about what I’m seeing this Administration attempt to do. Given a chance, the positive will greatly exceed the negative.
