Ed Zucal press release
Zucal Endorsed by Allentown FOP
(Allentown, PA) On Tuesday evening, Allentown City Councilman Ed Zucal, Democratic candidate for Mayor of Allentown, received the endorsement of the Allentown Fraternal Order of Police.
“I’m enormously proud to have received the support of the men and women who work to keep our city safe,” said Zucal. “As police and residents continue to face persistent crime and quality of life issues, they’re ready for a new direction. Sadly, the lack of leadership and often embarrassing behavior from Mayor Matt Tuerk has hurt the reputation of the city and destroyed the trust of the people who serve it. I’m running to change that.
“As a former police officer in the city of Allentown, I know what it takes to deliver safer streets and higher quality of life for the people of Allentown. With the help of our law enforcement, we’ll work to protect and serve the people of Allentown, and bring respect and leadership back to the city we love.”
Congrats. You deserve that Ed. I didn't think the FOP would support Tuerk after all the problems he gives them. Tough to respect a guy who doesn't supply heat to your building and then tries to sabotage an presidential event and embarrasses the entire city by his actions.
ReplyDeleteIt's just sad that the incumbent Mayor cannot get the support of the police. But then again, what has he done for them? Seems like Tuerk only cares about himself.
ReplyDeleteTuerk is a joke. He thinks he has a shot of beating MacKenzie in Congress. Haha. He can't even run a city let alone be a Congressman. Ed tries to support an independent investigation on problems in the city. Tuerk gets council to vote against it. Scared are we. The FOP isn't supporting Zucal because he was a cop. They clearly are because they know Tuerk isn't a Leader and is all about himself. There isn't many city workers who believe Tuerk isn't a fake. Now he's claiming crime is down. Yea maybe Homicides but that's it. Can't fudge those numbers but Chief Roca isn't to credit either. Word is he and his staff are being investigated harder and John Gotti. Only time will tell, but Tuerk can't be too sure he's going to win when he lost the police support.
ReplyDeleteThe police won't support you, if you don't support them. Very simple concept.
ReplyDeleteThis city is a mess. I heard the chief hasn’t been seen by the guys in months. Both ass. Chiefs army crawl to their offices because they don’t want to be seen. The mayor is a joke and he panders to the Hispanic community. I hear that Krasley isn’t the only criminal that was a vice officer. I hear there are a couple of more guys that are still working there and are full on criminals. Which “Juan” it is I don’t know. But I hear it’s as high as captains. The department and city needs a change. I think Zucal can pull through.
ReplyDeleteThere is only one clear choice for Mayor and it is Ed Zucal. The city tried an experiment with this current occupant of the mayor’s office and it has failed miserably. The city needs experience, integrity, and commitment and Ed is the embodiment of those qualities. I am excited for an Ed Zucal administration.
ReplyDeleteGeez, what a surprise. The FOP also did a no confidence vote in their police chief. I watched several concil meetings where Zucal played right into the FOP president's agenda on the discord over the sale of the secondary building. Hendricks had to speak to the "horrific" conditions that apparently didn't concern Zucal.
ReplyDeleteWhat proof is their the conditions were that "horrific."?
DeleteIf I recall correctly, according to both Mota and Hendricks, as well as Kiser and the chief, sewage leaks, mold, were noted.
DeleteCongratulations to Ed Zucal!
ReplyDeleteI believe the primary is on May 20th. I would urge everyone to register NOW to vote in the democrat primary.
Barring a surprise, the democrat primary will likely determine the next Mayor of the city.
In 2021, the current mayor squeaked by in a four-way race. This year there will be at least three candidates, and possibly more.
Your vote matters.
No one has any respect for this Mayor. Someone said he wants to run for Congress next. He actually thinks he's somebody important. He needs to do a reality check on himself. You can't make this stuff up.
ReplyDeleteSimply amazing how 15 members of the FOP, brought to a meeting by the FOP president, can speak for the entirety of the FOP. Zucal is in cahoots with the FOP leadership. Everyone knows how lazy he was as a cop, just like the current president. Talk to a normal officer and you’ll get the real story of what’s going on.
ReplyDeleteanon@12:46: I print your comment to not practice censorship. If his endorsement only represented 16 members, I'm sure we'll hear about it. The primary is four months away.
DeleteI will second what anonymous wrote at 1246 today. 15 votes were to endorse Mr. Zucal. There are over 300 members in Queen City Lodge. Typically votes like this go to the entire body instead the leadership made it just a floor vote. In Cahoots with FOP leadership definitely. If the vote went to the entire body it would not be an endorsement for him.
Deleteanon 2 seconding anon 1. The only thing we know for sure is that the FOP endorsement went to Zucal.
DeleteSounds like Anon. 12:46 is a Tuerk supporter. It's not uncommon for FOP meetings to have only 15-30 members attend even though they are open to the entire body. If only 15 or so members were present they voted favorably for his endorsement. Plain and simple. Oh, by the way, I voted for him .
ReplyDeleteI am on the department 6 years. I was at the last FOP meeting when we endorsed two current Council Members. There were only about 25 people there that night. I wasn't at the recent meeting but I'd bet it was more than 16. Most only show up for the after meeting refreshments. Zucal is the only Council Member who consistently supports us. If I had been at the meeting it would have been 17!
ReplyDeleteVery few officers reside and vote in the city. Sorry, but this endorsement doesn’t carry much weight at the end of the day.
ReplyDeleteAs a former Allentown Police Officer with 40 years of service in law enforcement and currently in my 12th year as a Councilmember I take offense to anon. 9:46 claiming that Zucal is the only council member to consistently support the police.
ReplyDeleteWhile I acknowledge that Zucal certainly does support the officers, I along with several of my colleagues likewise have adamantly supported the police.
Councilman Daryl L. Hendricks
To add, council person Gerlach has consistently voted against any conventional support of the police force which includes hiring additional officers. Her shadow, Natalie Santo, acts similarly. I have observed Hendricks, as well as the others, Mota, Napoli, Hendricks and Affa voice support for action benefitting the force. And if you are up to date on news coverage from testerday, you can hear Mayor Tuerk low and clear praising and supporting Chief Roca and his department. I haven't heard recognition of the Chief from Zucal.
Deleteanon@10:30: I do not know how Zucal feels about Roca as chief. Zucal can support the police and not think that Roca is the best chief for the department. I certainly have issues with Roca...the department under him does not enforce quality of life problems like doubling parking, even on streets like Tilghman at 5:00 rush traffic. Also allow me to add to my 10:05 comment. I do not print comments with malicious intent, even if signed.
Delete.Mr. Hendricks meant to take exception to anon 8:09. As a blogger I struggle with anonymous comments all the time. I have declined comments about both Tuerk and Zucal which I would have printed if submitted with a verifiable name.
ReplyDeleteIf the breaking news told us anything today, it told us the wrong people are in charge at City Hall.
ReplyDeleteThe mayor and the chief parade that crime is down? That is because the Police are doing the crimes in Allentown themselves now and are skilled at covering up for each other. Kinda like how Council and the Mayor take care of each other.
Allentown deserves better and needs to get these people out of the mayor suite and out of the council chambers.
May is the primary and my fellow Allentownians need to speak the only way that we can get these people to listen…our vote! We got rid of corrupt Casey and Wild.
There have been no allegations, whatsoever, that either Casey or Wild were corrupt. Commenters, especially anonymous ones, shouldn't count on such comments to always appear.
DeleteNote the article stated crimes were in 2011 and 2015.
DeleteI have been on City Council for 10 yrs.And have always supported APD .I have been on Public Sadty Committee and shared that committee for several years. I attended the citizens police Academy twice. I had at least 4 ride alongside w/ police .i rode along w/Officer Andy Becky a wk before he was shot.I owned and operated a bar for 37 yrs. and the APD always had my back and I swore when I was endorsed three times by the fraternal order of police that I would have their back and I have I have voted yes on every issue every budget and I along with councilman Hendricks take off fence that they acknowledge councilman Zucal as the only person that backs to police department. I also know you are just one person, but I have the backing of so many men and women in blue
ReplyDeleteCandida Affa
Ed Zucal is an idiot ... Twerk is an idiot ... All you can hope for is that someone new will throw their hat in the ring and clean up the mess ... is zucal still in the FOP ???
