Allentown's Buffet Of Legal Cases

The Morning Call's Lindsay Weber did a good job of presenting the smorgasbord of legal cases currently involving the city of Allentown. She appropriately peppered her article with alleged and supposedly. Myself, not being a trained journalist, but rather an abrasive blogger, will add some speculations to her piece. Unfortunately, as you can see from the screen grab above, the Morning Call article is for subscribers only. The wisdom of that policy is above my pay-grade. I'm such an amateur that this blog is not monetized in any way. If you need reference to the MC article, you'll either have to buy a subscription, or find/buy  a copy of Sunday's paper.

The Tuerk administration's refusal to honor council's Scott Curtis investigation was flimsy. Bids and proposals are brought into compliance all the time. Council's reversal on the Curtis investigation is political, with Tuerk  holding sway with a council majority against Zucal's primary challenge. The motives for the Duane Morris replacement investigation, in this blogger's opinion, should itself be investigated.

I believe that one thing the paper and blog concur on is that the city government is as conflicted as ever. However, I believe that the only thing worse than such government conflict, is totally smooth sailing. That's when the real shenanigans occur, as during the Pawlowski administration.

  1. Wow. I must be naiive. I thought all the scandals in Allentown municpial government were gone after Ed Pawlowski went to jail. There was never scandals like this when I was growing up in Allentown.

It must be the recent phenomenon of out-of-town mayors. It has been many years since a native Allentonian has led the city.

    1. There were accusations of racism at least a decade before Pawlowski in the APD. Racism is nothing new. However, weaponization of just the accusation is newer. Those false accusations are both troublesome and expensive.

  2. The only investigation that's going to clean this place up has to be done by the Department of Justice. You are absolutely right this Council has to be investigated themselves. All seven members voted for the investigation. However, now that some are being sued themselves time to bring in the backup team. The rumor is the new law firm was a donor to Council's new Solicitor when she ran for Congress. Also, the new President's son just got a nice promotion. Mota said she was running for Mayor because of the poor direction the city is going. Santo the Mayor’s ring leader and Affa. What can one say. Three hundred thousand for Scott Curtis with an investigation already in full swing or six to nine hundred thousand (plus) to start over. Let that sink in. It's very simple. It's not their money being spent. It's your and mine. This election could probably be one of the most important ever. If the voters elect these people again they get what they deserve!

  3. The Morning Call specifically Weber tries to push the blame away from Tuerk cause they are friends. Read her articles, she never blames him for anything So who is too blame for all the lawsuits? How about the cover up of Scott Curtis? How about the Police department falling apart and looking disgraceful? Its Tuerk!!!! He doesn't care about anyone but himself. That's why Zucal is going to beat him. He is not a Leader, Roca is not one either. You blame the top. Not anyone else.

  4. Scott Curtis, retired FBI, Special Agent, is a wholly unacceptable choice for any investigation. No one needs an investigator with that level of expertise, competence and integrity digging around.

    1. Agree! Plus given the level of malfeasance which abounds at city hall would only cause Scott Curtis nasal problems and severe migraines.

  5. Why is Weber covering for Tuerk and council? Council had 7 people vote yes for Curtis investigation then 3 get named in it. Now 4 vote against it. Isn't that something. And Mr. Hendricks is now a mayor supporter when he has gone at him how many times. But wait, Tuerk got smart and promoted Hendricks son to buy his support. Dirty dirty Daryl. You are not better than your colleagues. Weber should start reporting this type of truth.

  6. It would be refreshing to read an acknowledgement from you that it was Zucal foaming at the mouth to hire his boy that led the way to all this. Maybe ask why about that...

    1. Why don’t you call Curtis “boy” to his fac?

  7. In ref. to anony. 9:52 First and foremost let me make this clear, no one buys me or my support. This investigation was going nowhere and being stymied in the Courts. I voted to move it along so that we could reach a conclusive decision and not waste tax dollars on endless motions. I, unlike you, am not afraid to post my name.

    2. Establishing a "handle" like mine is somewhat laborious on blogspot. Hendricks' signed comment at 10:16 certainly is NOT anonymous.

    3. Thanks for the correction. We all appreciate Mr Hendricks +10 years on city council and dedication to public safety.

    4. I think former Special Agent Curtis is too through, too competent, and too likely to uncover the rot left over from the Pawlowski era, and I believe that a bright, experienced and long tenured city employee and public official like you knows that as well.

    5. All the more reason that it’s appropriate for Councilman Hendrix to set an example of integrity and commitment to a fair, factual and comprehensive investigation.

  8. I have no knowledge of the MC beat reporter slanting coverage for Tuerk. It is not impossible , and that certainly occurred for most of the Pawlowski era, up to his indictment.
Likewise, I have no knowledge of sons being hired or not hired. However, that topic I will not host. I would have no way of knowing who is or who is not qualified. Comments referencing sons will not be printed.

  9. As a city worker who was voluntarily interviewed by Mr Curtis he is more than qualified. No one should have any doubt that he is trying to get to the root of the problems in City Hall. Hopefully City Council comes to its senses and continues with him. There's only one reason why they wouldn't and it obviously has nothing to do with taxpayer money.
