As Allentown Turns

There will be three candidates on the Democratic ballot for mayor this May.                                                              Current mayor Matt Tuerk will be the establishment candidate. All his campaigning will be in front of graffiti posing as murals. His speeches will be in both English and Spanish. Cynthia Mota will be the minority majority candidate. She will campaign from the Dominican Republic, exclusively in Spanish.  Ed Zucal will be the retro Better/Happy Days candidate, speaking in English from the Ritz and fairgrounds.

Allentown Police will not be enforcing double parking from a new headquarters, wedged between their current headquarters and city hall on the former landing. The plans alone will cost $1.5mil. Their new motto, "The shooting was an isolated incident, and no danger to the public", will be inscribed over the entrance.

molovinsky on allentown is looking for a new office in center city.  None of my former haunts, or even the buildings they were in, still exist. I asked J.B. Reilly for space, and he said I should call back after hell freezes over.

  2. Speaking as Allentown's token Republican, my take on the Democrat field is that Matt has revealed himself too Woke, Mota's years on council demonstrated only she doesn't deserve a promotion, and Ed would be a return to plain old common sense. Anyone in Allentown who seeks the laws enforced and a return to some relative normal should support Ed.

  3. I thought hell would freeze over if you were appointed to the Parknership

  4. Don’t forget our school district administration and school board, which in response to a lawsuit about security guards attacking a middle school child began their statement on the incident by declaring that it took place before the current superintendent took over.

That’s hardly reassuring to ASD taxpayers, who will bear the cost of any lawsuit award, and very indicative of who the district is most concerned about protecting (Hint: It’s NOT the taxpayer's, or the students).

  5. Scott@7:30: I agree and support Zucal

anon@7:54: Save for the dog&pony show last May, there has been only one appointment...Simon Moore as head of the board that has no other members. Considering that the Trust has already invested $500K, I think that Harry Trexler would appreciate someone (me) that remembers what the park system was like as planned.

    1. I think you should be urging anyone with a similar view as yours to apply for that board. Even if you are appointed to it, you’ll need others to help approve measures that bolster the traditional park system.

  6. This would be the fifth police headquarters in my time on this Earth. The original in the 50's being on Linden street.

  7. You must have missed Zucal's speech. Even the news didn't report his comment that he wanted to return Allentown to the blue collar city it was. I'm not "woke" like your audience throws around the term but as a conservative, I find his comment divisive and truly, just not real...smart. a subtle slur to some and low level aspirations for others.

    1. Although I could not attend the event, I was able to attain a copy of the speech. To me the takeaway was his background and desire for law and order, and quality of life issues.. Although as an independent I will not be able to vote for him in the Democratic primary, he has my support.

    2. 4:27 you may have noticed the working class is now flexing it's voting muscle. Appealing to them is not "devisive" is smart politics. Tell me, are you similarly offended when other candidates want to be "inclusive" with all that entails? Do you find that divisive?
