A New Police Station For Allentown

The mayor and police chief are clamoring for a new police station, to replace the aging facility built in 1962. The newest house I ever lived in was built in 1956. My previous houses were built in 1929 and 1905. Most of the row houses in Allentown date from 1895 to 1930.  While the police station heating system may indeed needed replacement, that doesn't require a new building.

I think that this mayor and police chief should concentrate  more on quality of life issues before being concerned with replacing perfectly serviceable  municipal buildings. A new building won't reduce crime, but it will increase taxes.

Shown above is a 1960's era postcard, with a rendering of Allentown's new municipal facilities at that time.

  1. I agree, a new building will do nothing to improve law enforcement, every building needs upgrades and repairs. If the building is sound it is just another waste of money and large contract for someone.

    1. I agree!!! This entire city is consumed by "newitis", and it's a giant "mushroom farm", with the citizens being the "mushrooms" that are fed sheit (LIES) and kept in the dark.
Someone needs to investigate all the properties being bought up by an entity and being taken off the tax rolls, too. (for future tear down and redevelopment, I'll assume) The thinking being if it's city owned, tax payments would come from the taxpayers... how about the taxpayers must "make up" the shortfall, so what is the difference???

  2. Askin' for a friend.... WHY does the city inspect our homes/apartments/businesses and force us to make repairs that most people find unnecessary, yet not so much for city/government owned properties??? The "new" city hall, built in the 60s, had water leaks almost from the get-go, yet it was just repaired in the past few years.... what's wrong with THIS picture???
