Tuerk's Sake Of The City

Tuerk's speech to the large polite group gathered in Jaindl's waterfront emporium was less than encouraging.  We are truly a tale of two cities...One with continuous mostly misunderstood development fueled by diverted state taxes, the other rising crime with no real solutions proposed.

Tuerk was dressed enough not to insult the affluent there with a promise of more Promise non-profit distraction. Instead, he referred to installing gun shot detectors. They can be mounted on the lampposts along with the cameras that are of no help.  The detectors are of little consolation to the violence weary.

In his earlier New Year message, Tuerk referred to modern policing.  I'm sure those present for his Sake Of The City speech would prefer tough policing, and much more of it.

Shown above at last year's Syrian Flag raising is Mayor Tuerk with new council president Cynthia Mota, councilwoman Candida Affa, and former councilman Julio Guridy.

  1. The problem with gunshot detectors is that they only help with the investigation. That’s little consolation to the person being shot, should they be lucky enough to survive.

Policing Allentown is not rocket science. The city itself is relatively small. Readers of this blog could likely intuitively guide the Mayor to the higher-crime areas of the city.

Concentrate the police force on those neighborhoods. At the same time, focus other city departments (code enforcement, SWEEP, etc.) on problem properties. Raise the standards as far as what is tolerated in those areas.

Drive those who are using the city for their criminal acts out of the city. Improve the neighborhoods of those who remain.

  2. The Floyd incident had the effect of setting back public safety and effective policing. We can thank the media for turning a local tragedy into a national trauma, and power hungery politicians who tard all police with the same brush. Both the media and the politicians who pushed Floyd narrative for their own advantage by fanning the flames of anger and division. Neither cared not a wit about the resulting lives lost, businesses burned, neighborhoods destroyed, and the nation wide fear and divisiveness that resulted. In short, their actions are as evil as as the original act they outraged against. Never in my life have I witnesses such mass, self-serving, cynicism. Now to no one's surprise we see Matt prefers to follow the new safe narratives of the left that tie the hands of law enforcement and emboldened and enable crime in our neighborhoods. He is not a leader, he is a consensus builder. Unfortunately, today's concensus on crime and policing is the problem. Matt is smart enough to know that but lacks the courage to do what is right for Allentown's residents and homeowners. You get what you vote for Allentown. Scott Armstrong

  3. 8:50 - “Getting guns off the street” is the liberal battle cry to not solve the problem.

If you really want to “get guns off the street”, you hold those using guns while committing crimes accountable. I’m talking mandatory jail terms. No parole.

The reality is those using guns while committing crimes are often repeat offenders. Not punishing them harshly sends a message, and it’s the wrong one.
