Over the years my camera has caught many images which can no longer be seen. Some have been recent victims of the changing city, others not seen for decades.
When we were living in Bridgeview Apartments in the early 1990s, I spent a few fun nights at Evil Eva's, what an original place. I still remember the patrons playing Garth Brooks, "Friends In Low Places" on the juke box over and over to sing along. What an appropriate song for Evil Eva's.
Eva just passed away in August at age 90. I believe she sold the property in 2007. I was in that bar once, many years ago, and I am pretty sure I used that payphone to call a cab.
What was it named before Evil Evas.? I remember it as Shankweilers or something like that! My older brother would send me up for pizza. I was fascinated by the dumbwaiter that delivered the food orders, from the kitchen above, to the patrons in the basement bar.
