A Cookie For Old Allentown

About once a year, Mayor Pawlowski gives the boys and girls of the Old Allentown Preservation Association a cookie. Last year, he gave them new historic street signs. Unfortunately, they didn't have much structural integrity, and within 3 hours every one of them was bent. This year we're dressing up the corner where the Association has its office. Brick crosswalks will be added to 10th and Turner, and the the stoplight and other utility poles will be painted a more historic color. The boys and girls have been good. There hasn't been one peep from them about the demolition of the historic mercantile district, and the construction of the Great White Elephant. More important, they're behaving about the traffic cluster that the arena will bring their way, when all the patrons exit at the same time. I see more cookies in their future.

ADDENDUM SEPTEMBER 29, 2023: The boys and girls of the Preservation Association still behave themselves. In current time they have turned a blind eye to both the sale of Zion Church/Liberty Bell Museum and the decaying WPA/art deco post office. Add the Art Museum and Historical Society to the list of deaf and blind. Enjoy your wine and cheese.

  1. Folks, It is a crying shame the Liberty Bell Museum was sold. I was a tour guide, then a member of the Board for 12 years, till my health started failing. The Museum told the magnificent story of the saving of the "Bell", and (I feel) the most important part of Allentown's past history.....PJF

  2. Yes, boys and girls, we're witnessing the controlled demolition of our town, and, by the way, the entire country... all for sale to the highest bidder or the most politically connected outfit(s)!!! If you believe most of what has/is happened was organic... it wasn't!!! All according to plan(s). They tell us what they're going to do, and then we stand there, in awe, with our thumbs stuck up are collective derrieres and gasp "What happened???!!!" But wait... there's more... MUCH MORE!!! Like the saying goes... "You ain't seen nothin', yet!!!" Hang on to your socks!!! We're being erased bit by bit.

    1. Addendum to my 4:42 post... what's up with the brick walkways that were imperative to add and then just as imperative to tear out and blacktop over??? Witness the named bricks at 7th and Hamilton that folks paid for with GREAT fanfare, that were ripped out and (supposedly) stored with zero fanfare... too bad this city is run in such a bass ackwards manner... ignore noise, loitering, racing in residential areas, double parking, blah, blah, blah, ad nauseam... meanwhile, back at the ranch, the city is being left in the dust by the people that paid the way via taxes and by supporting local businesses, never to return, Allentown in the rear view mirror.... Bu-by.........
