Morning Call Pushing Pinsley

The Morning Call editors continue to publicize Mark Pinsley, trying to help him fulfill his current quest to become a state senator.  They are currently using bold type for Pinsley's name on his letter to the editor, featuring it on their digital version. Normally those blocks do not contain a letter writer's name, much less in bold type, normally reserved only for a reporter's by-line.

There's only two constants at the Morning Call anymore...A local political agenda, and the silence of the former and remaining staff. While a recently departed reporter told me that she was free to write what she chose,  she still put out the company line, even through she was being shown the door. I suppose even those recommendation letters have a price.

  1. Mike, Thanks for bravely continuing to read and report on what goes on with the Morning Call. Otherwise no one would know as truly no else reads that worthless, partisan rag. As for the departed writer who said she could write what she wanted I am sure she was telling the truth. The sad truth is J school graduates want to parrot the political narratives of the day. To do otherwise would be unthinkable to them as there are very few contrarians or independent thinkers in the ranks of journalists. They are taught to confirm instead.

  2. Mike,

Did you notice the Morning Call publish an op-ed by a Latino radio announcer who made what many considered very racist comments on air. He at best, half heartedly apologized for it, so I guess that was good enough for them. No big deal.

  3. This is why the morning call is a failed enterprise. When their bias is so obvious, they have alienated half of their potential clients. Politics seems to overcome good business and sound journalism.

  4. I'd say every newspaper in the country is in the same financial situation. Hardly because of bias...who wants to wait 24 hours for a pile of newsprint ads? For better or worse, our news consumption has changed...the only thing keeping these alive is that they are the biggest source of potential ad readers around.
