Mayoral Madness In Allentown

So far, four of the seven city council members have declared their candidacy for mayor, or consideration there of.  If that field isn't large enough, two development officials are also in the mix.  In addition to these six,  a developer and former candidate is weighing his options.  What these seven aspirants have in common is that they're all Democrats.

While Allentown is a Democratic city with its majority registration,  only one Republican has expressed interest.  Considering that only one of the seven Democrats would end up on the ballot, becoming a Republican of convenience may not be a bad strategy for this upcoming election.

While I have dug out this old tee-shirt to pose in the picture shown, I stand alone as not a candidate for mayor.

  1. What happened to Ramos, a republican, who seemed to be a good candidate, is he now out of politics?

  2. Ramos is the Republican to which I refer. Democrats referenced include Gerlach, Siegel, Hendricks, Guridy, Lightner, Tuerk, and Hyman.

  4. Mike, I have known Tim for at least ten or fifteen years, his brother Steven even longer. Tim was an old school Democrat, he belonged to the party that fought for the working man and for years he stubbornly clung to that allegiance. It has been several years since he switched parties and became a Republican. He has not changed his political philosophy but the seismic shift in the platforms and make-ups of the party has made him a main stream Republican. He is not an opportunist by any means, as a Latino he has been offered easy gigs for public office by the local Democrats. He signs up, they get him elected. That's how Democrats get elected in Allentown. He said No Thank You! Tim Ramos for Mayor!

  5. I had the occasion to hear him speak, He does seem to interested in the best interests of the city. He should be able to harness the entrepreneur Latino 's of Allentown, He would definitely be an outsider and only an outsider has any hope of reforming the city.
