Obama's Parting Shot At Israel

For those who support Israel,  Obama's parting shot of not vetoing the UN resolution against the little country, was not a surprise. He has demonstrated indifference to outright hostility, since his first term in office. Ironically, his middle eastern sympathies  provide little comfort to our citizens as we brace for possible attacks during this holiday season.  Support for Israel is a controversial issue, even among some Jews.  It is not my intention to debate the general topic here, but to note Obama's departure from the historical American position, of not imposing pre-conditions on a country surrounded by sworn enemies.

As a Jew, I'm perplexed as to why he garnered so much Jewish support, in both 08 and 012.  Jews, like other minorities, were nursed on the belief that the Democrats better represent them. Despite outright hostility to Netanyahu for four years, he loss only 8 points of Jewish support for his second term.

This post should not be misconstrued as a partisan indictment of Democrats.  Rather,  it is my contention that voters should mature beyond preconceived notions about one party or the other.

  1. In effect the democrat party and I don't mean all democrats have made the decision that it is to their advantage to cultivate the Palestinian and Muslim causes. Is it more contributions? A more common Ideology? A general rejection of american culture? Maybe someone out there has the answer.

  2. Mike, it has become apparent many people are and have re-evaluated their political allegiance. A realignment has and continues to occur with the Democratic Party losing white working class voters, Latinos, other non black minorities, and African American men. Meanwhile those who consider themselves elites have moved out of the Republican Party

  3. Your perplexion on why most Jews support Democrats over Republicans is because you view their political support to be based solely on support for Israel.
In reality, Jewish support for Democrats is because they are appalled that the GOP has become a party where guns and god (only Christianity) take precedence and everything else is on the table. There is a strong streak of anarchism and nihilism in the now Trump GOP populism that has little or no respect for the rule of law, norms, the Constitution or even common decency. Oh, and let’s not leave out racism, xenophobia and bigotry. So, now you have religious nutters, racist assholes and a few bozos from the "Freedumb Caucus in charge of the Republican Party. No wonder Jews are rejecting a Trump re-election bid.
