Poor Neighborhoods To Get More Dangerous
When police officers several years ago in Baltimore were castigated for hosting some rough patty wagon trips, police enforcement, and ultimately protection, took a slowdown in that city. I expect to see a stand down now around the entire country.
In this current climate of scrutiny by the public, and officials more concerned with their reelection than actual public safety, a dangerous, thankless job is now becoming a losing proposition. When coming home from the job requires quick responses, and everybody is a judge with a surveillance camera, why would a policeman want to jeopardize himself protecting your property or life?
How ironic is it that "Defund The Police" was a slogan heard at riots and lootings? Some woke large city officials want to instead divert those funds to social programs. An activist in Minnesota said, "We're safer without armed, unaccountable patrols supported by the state hunting black people."
I don't think that they will be safer. Matter of fact, I think that life has gotten far more dangerous in poor neighborhoods in the last couple of weeks. There will be a few less complaints against the police, but much less protection against the predators in those neighborhoods.

Yep, like most national sensational stories, endemic racism is a "made up story."
ReplyDeleteAnd every Democrat politician can't let this "crisis" go to waste.
Never in the history of the world has there been a place like our land of opportunity, where everyone is FREE to climb the opportunity ladder. Endemic racism does not exist. There are no corporate or government bodies holding any race down. If there were, there would be ads on tv for lawyers to take these discrimination cases.
And bad racist cops killing people of color would certainly be wrong too. Of course there are some bad cops, and teachers, lawyers, judges, etc.
Out of 7,000 "blacks" killed yearly, cop kill about 100. And of the 100, most were shooting at the cops. Blacks should be way more worried about the 98% of blacks not killed by cops. That is the "CRISIS."
And Mike is correct. Less police will definitely cause more black killings.
I'm here in Minneapolis. Our boy mayor made a fatal mistake of letting the rioters burn down the 3rd precinct police station - he said 'its just a building'. Once they were allowed to destroy that symbol of authority - they went wild and destroyed 100's of mostly smaller businesses.
ReplyDeleteI live about 5 miles from the riot. There were so many buildings burned, I had small pieces of carbonized wood on my lawn.
It was looting / vandalism / arson. The ATF has videos of these people, and is actively arresting them.
There has to be an authority.

ReplyDeleteHow did you vote in the your last municipal election? Do you plan to vote the same way this time?
What about your friends and neighbors?
Elections have consequences.
Democrats won't protect you. In fact, when the mob arrives they'll roll over like a puppy looking for a belly rub, and then explain to you why you deserved what was taken from you.
I've lived in Minneapolis for 40 years - it has steadily gone from moderate, to liberal, to progressive. There are no Republicans on the ballot. The only choice is to move. But when you have business contacts, and children, you are stuck.

DeleteI get it, but somebody's voting these people into office. As you now know first-hand, the empty promises of power-hungry democrat politicians don't lead to a utopia, they lead to what you're currently experiencing.
The worse part is that many will flee and then work towards the same policies in their new cities, which will lead to situations like they're leaving in Minneapolis.
We have plenty of similar believers in Allentown, who will ignore reality and continue to vote the party line. There isn't an ounce of introspection or thought in them about the long-term consequences of where those policies are taking us.
To me, that's what the next election is all about. I don't care for Trump's style, but the democrats in Washington are happy to appease what you're experiencing and go along with what has happened in our other (Democrat-controlled) major cities.
Either way, I wish you well.
I grew up in Allentown. Left in 1971. It's obvious A-town has become a poverty magnet - and those citizens keep returning the same type of politicians.
DeleteWell Minneapolis has become a left-wing / LGBT magnet. I have experienced it first hand. As the old white people died off in the 1980's- the 'element' moved in. The more that come, the more they attract similar people. So we're cooked.
If you're interested in history, look up Hubert Humphrey and the DFL. That's what the Democrat party is called in MN. DFL = Democrat Farmer Labor. These people were actually Communists back in 1949. Humphrey managed to merge them into the DFL.
Hard to imagine Allentown w/o police.Would turn into complete chaos within weeks. With the Leftists fighting for control of City Council no police may not be a pipe-dream
ReplyDeleteDemocrats have controlled most of America's big cities for generations. The result of this rule is blight, flight, high crime, high poverty, hopelessness and despair. Interesting how it is their police departments involved in all the controversial shootings of African Americans. The pattern of Democratic control and a downward spiral is obvious, we have seen it here in Allentown since the Democrats have gained complete control. It's time to wake up and smell the coffee, don't vote for Democrats. Republicans are clearly the lesser of two evils.
ReplyDeleteJust published in the Minneapolis Star and Tribune:
ReplyDeleteNationwide, people expressed outrage when prosecutors released the preliminary findings of George Floyd’s autopsy, highlighting cardiovascular heart disease and “potential intoxicants” in his system, as if those factors might explain his death as police officers pinned him to the ground.
Those findings contained just one mention of physical trauma, noting that Floyd’s body showed no signs of asphyxia or strangulation. The public and some medical professionals cried foul, putting Dr. Andrew Baker, Hennepin County’s medical examiner, squarely in the hot seat.
