Prison Professor Pawlowski

WFMZ reported on Lisa Pawlowski's tweet, that Ed Pawlowski has drawn up a curriculum to teach a class on Understanding Government, at his prison in Danbury, Conn.  My first reaction to the story was to wonder if it would deal with understanding what is honest government, rather than shaking down contractors for campaign contributions?  Putting aside those obvious wisecracks, the next question is why would WFMZ report on Lisa's proclamations? She is the woman who proclaimed his innocence, even as they took him away in handcuffs.  I suppose that she might proclaim his innocence so adamantly, because she was so involved with his governing.

I doubt that the prison system will approve such a stunt by a convicted elected official. While the Morning Call is never shy about adopting a story,  they seemed to pass on this piece of public relations by Lisa.

ADDENDUM: The Morning Call did pick up this story after all, this morning at 6:00am, two hours after it appeared here. (and a day after WFMZ)
UPDATE 10:19AM:  The Morning Call has withdrawn the story.

  1. Isn't it past time for the media to stop covering Ed's actions. He's in prison, let it go.

  2. Mike Schlossberg also said "Let It Go" yesterday on facebook.I think he means that he would rather people "forget" how many times he supported Pawlowski when he was on city council, before going to Harrisburg. fortunately for Mike Schlossberg, Allentown has a short institutional memory.

  3. Prisons in Connecticut actually allow the unapologetic use of hallucinogenic drugs? Wow. Never would have guessed.

I would think that the real story yet to be told is the one detailing exactly how many Albert Speers, if any, still retain positions of power in Allentown's local government ...

I’ll bet there’s limits in Danbury.

  5. The new criminal justice reform bill passed by Congress could mean Mr. Pawloski will get released sooner than later.

  6. Michael: That story was posted erroneously. We are pursuing the story, but needs further corroboration and reporting before being published.

I think you are misreading, or misrepresenting, the pending legislation.
With or without the changes, Pawlowski will be away a long time.

  8. Mike Miorelli (Morning Call editor), I would think that until which time the prison would approve such a course, it is nothing but public relations by Lisa Pawlowski, and should not be printed.

  10. Actually, federal minimum security prisons, which Pawlowski is at, have a fairly progressive view of what educational courses are offered, and will seek to take advantage of the knowledge set available. Unlike state prisons, where much of the resident population could profit from and can avail themselves of GED high school level remedial courses and such, the population of the Level 1 type facility where Pawlowski is at houses more white collar type offenses than street crime fare. Doctors who have abused their narcotic licenses, lawyers & politicians who ran afoul of the law, drug traffickers, not the mules, but, the pilots/boat owners/financiers/etc., etc. of the trade, tax evaders, etc., etc. make up the bulk of the population Pawlowski is likely to interact with on a daily basis. So, just as Bernie Madoff teaches investing & stock market, and Bagdloich teaches reading, other white collar inmates can be usefully engaged to educate others as well as help themselves to gain privileges in the system and help with probation chances.

  11. The Level I facility we presume Pawlowski’s calls home houses predominantly drug offenders.
In fact no one has verified which of the three Danbury units he is housed in.
The staff won’t care who he was before he became their ward.
The idea that he will have the opportunity to teach civics is as likely as one of his new associates instructing a class in pharmacology.

  12. trent@5:26, actually, inmates and guards ask madoff for advice, but i could find no confirmation that he "teaches" such a course approved by the prison. likewise, the Morning Call has pulled the Pawlowski story for lack of confirmation.
