What's Love Got To Do With It

I suppose that some of my readers were surprised when I congratulated Susan Wild on being our new representative in congress.  Although, I didn't make any endorsement prior to the election, most readers realize that I cant to the right.  However,  I had some issues with Nothstein,  and generally prefer not to make endorsements.

Last week, Wild expressed potential opposition against the proposed new trade pact with Canada and Mexico.  Seems that she went with those members of her party supposedly upset that the new trade treaty may not end up addressing gay and lesbian issues. USMCA’s Chapter 23 on labor requires countries to implement policies that protect workers against employment discrimination on the basis of sex, sexual orientation and gender identity.  There are conservatives senators who feel that such social policy need not be included with international trade agreements.

Now, I'm certainly for respecting the rights of our workers here at home, but I'm also for protecting the rights of all our citizens to have the best possible economy. I'm hoping that Representative Wild will not base her important votes on single issues.

  1. New Untied States Congressperson Susan Wild should probably propose draconian legislation requiring all deplorable people who DO NOT identify and/or sympathize, empathize, etc., with and/or as LGBT to pay an incredibly punitive tax to all the people who DO identify and/or sympathize, empathize, etc., with and/or as LGBT in order to set a great example for future generations in terms of politically correct prioritization.

    Respectfully,

  2. She will vote like every other Democrat in the House and Senate, as she is told to.

  3. A few thoughts:

It's really irrelevant as to whether the provision is in there or not. Signatory countries will enforce that provision according to their own laws and standards.

Whether it's included in the final version shouldn't be a deal-breaker on its own. From what we currently know, the overall agreement is a better deal for American workers than what currently exists.

That Wild has chose to make this an issue shouldn't be surprising. She promotes identity politics and won her election with an incredible amount of outside money flowing into her campaign. Those outsiders who bought her position for her fully expect that she will represent THEIR interests before the interests of the people of the 7th District. Her announcement should let them know that their money was well spent.

  5. I personally don’t have a problem with party line voting. Depersonalizing representation in Congress could go some way to reducing the hubris of lawmaking. WYSIWYG.

Come on, Scott—what’s the lowest percentage of Republican votes on a bill or nomination? 92%?

  6. Geoff,

John McCain sunk the Obama Repeal bill. Jeff Flake and Bob Corker loved voting against and blocking Trump legislation. Charlie Dent voted and spoke against Trump[ routinely, there are many more. Where is this sort of independence on the left? It doesn't exist. Only one Democrat broke with Bill Clinton when it was discovered he was having sex with an intern(someone's daughter), that was 15th congressional district's Democratic representative Paul McHale. For that act of bravery he was hounded out of office.

Name me another Democrat who voted against the party on an important piece of legislation or questioned corruption committed by their own side. Go ahead.

  7. By the way, Goeff,

There are entire conservative publications that routinely write critically of the Republican Party and it's leadership. This didn't start with Trump but is in full bloom presently. Op-eds from Republicans critical of their own party are routine in local and national papers, and NPR, the NYT's, and PBS all have their token Republicans who do nothing but rip their own party.Again, give me the name of a Democrat who does the same. I can think of a few but I can also tell you they have paid a steep price as a result.
