Roseanne Barr And Starbucks

Tuesday was quite a day for the self-righteous.  Roseanne Barr lost her show despite her apology for a crass tweet, and Starbucks trained their baristas not to engage in unconscious bias, however that can be done?  I've previously mocked Starbucks for their absurd overreaction to a unfortunate incident.  Their new policy of allowing table space and bathrooms for non-customers cannot have good results.  My hardcore subscribers know that I'm not much for political correctness, and those who want to make being a victim a career.

The Me-Too Movement has become predatory itself....It even ate Al Franken.

I certainly understand that racism is real, and  reducing prejudice is a most desirable goal.  However, I don't think that smelting down a statue of General Lee that stood in a New Orleans park for 100 years will accomplish the task.  The statue is now gone, and so is the educational opportunity associated with it.

We have to learn the difference between teachable moments and burning people at the stake, or worse, commercializing the PC response.  The Starbucks school yesterday was such a public relations response, nothing more. Unfortunately for Barr,  the anti-Trump entertainment industry relishes her execution. If ABC hadn't fired her,  I suspect that in some future show Barr would have turned the incident into a teachable moment.

  1. As with the rest of what Hollywood, network TV, and the so called entertainment industry produce, I never saw the new Rosanne show. I could care less about any of it.None of it reflect my values, ideas of humor or morality so the fact the it gone matters not to me. The only interesting thing about any of it is what you already mentioned.

Those of us old enough to remember think back on entertainment that didn't mock and impugn what most of us still believe in. It was funny on a higher level, profanity was used sparingly, and villains were not those our betters viewed as the politically incorrect. So as they say now F*** it all.

Life is much richer without any of it.

  2. Conservatives might have enjoyed the storyline of the Roseanne show, but never fell for her so-called Trump-loving way. She's a nutcase of the first order and both disrespectful and a super lib. She saw an opening in the popular culture and grabbed it, much like super-lib Norman Lear did a generation ago with All In the Family. When Tom Hanks plays a war hero does he become a war hero? No. It's just Hollywood make believe and it is amazing the media can't see that.

  3. Somehow, it’s okay for Samantha Bee to say this horrible thing about Ivanka Trump? TBS says ‘oops we’re sorry, it shouldn’t have aired.’ By the way, her show wasn’t live like this one.

Her show is on tape. She taped it and used that word. Everyone saw it, including all of their producers, and they still sent it out to be aired.

Maybe TBS ought to take a page out of ABC’s playbook. ABC rightly came down hard on Roseanne. They said ‘we will not tolerate it.’ I say there should be the same standards on BOTH sides.
