Signs Of The Times In Allentown
The other day I posted that Ray O'Connell was helping John Ingram's manager install a sign on Tilghman Street. Actually, Ingram's manager, Ed White, is doing quite well without any help. Scott Armstrong sarcastically noted on Facebook that the Phoebe Home must be supporting Ingrams, because his signs go down the 19th Street Hill. Likewise, apparently Sunoco Gasoline Corporation and The Lakes Apartments must be on board with his campaign, as his signs line Cedar Crest Blvd.
It's not the first time a candidate has been loose with sign placement, but it may be the most flagrant. I must confess that as a blogger who concerns himself with local politics, among other topics, I find this sign controversy funny. Now, if someone injected me with truth serum, I might even admit that I find the signs themselves amusing.

ReplyDeletemary@5:02, i'm just not used to using a photo on a lawn sign. in fairness to ingram and white, he also have billboards and is obviously trying to establish a uniform brand. however, I never purport to deal in fairness.
ReplyDeleteIs John Ingram running for mayor because he wants to be mayor...or...is he just enjoying the opportunity to see his own face on billboards and yard signs?

I find the slogan claiming Ingram to be "The Most Interesting Man In Allentown" to be amusing.
ReplyDeleteI must also say that I find Ingram's Spanish-language billboard on Gordon Street near intersection with 2nd Street to be most interesting.
I think this upcoming Mayor's election involving this crowded collection of self-serving albeit pandering _________ dressed in various disguises and its aftermath could very well be the most interesting political event the City of Allentown has ever witnessed.

They remind me of Real Estate agent signs
ReplyDeleteOffice Max/Staples etc., etc., now can print all manner of signs relatively inexpensively with photographic images if desired. Instead of printing or painting on inflexible metal that can fade & chip, there are all manner of nylon and Mylar mediums which are light weight and the signs can be folded.

ReplyDeleteSHHHHHHHH. Don't give them any ideas. People think politics is easy because our elected officials seem so often very stupid.Honestly, the people who get them elected often have more brains. This said, embarrassing campaigns such as this make the point, John Ingram may well be a good guy with great ideas, but you would never guess it from his campaign.
Here's a clue for anyone who wants to run for office. First find someone who knows what's involved and has experience.
