An Atlantic City Memory

The picture above by the Associated Press appeared on Facebook yesterday, in regard to the death of Jerry Lewis, the famed comedian. If the picture doesn't look like funny Jerry, there's a reason.

When I was about eight years old, my cousin and I stayed with our aunt, who had rented a house for the summer at the shore. Walking on the boardwalk, my consin and I were delighted to see on the marquee that Jerry Lewis was entertaining on Steel Pier. We both ponied up our week's money and went in to see the funny man. A rather gaunt man came out onto the stage and sat at a piano. When he started singing Great Balls Of Fire, we were confused. When he started pounding the piano with his feet, and his hair started unraveling, we were shocked.

Apparently, the young person at the Associated Press also confused Jerry Lewis with Jerry Lee Lewis, whose picture appears above.

  1. When Gregg Allman died recently "I Heart Radio" did a tribute to him that included a vocal from "Your My Blue Sky". Unfortunately Dickey Betts wrote and sang that song for the group. The media isn't what it used to be.

  2. The media isn't what it used to be, thanks to changing demographics. Thankfully professional media continues to strive for balance and for factual reports. Occasional errors are corrected. Would that certain elected officials displayed just half the media's commitment to accuracy.

  3. Yes the media strive for balance and factual reporting except when they choose not to, which is almost all the time.

  4. Here is a summary of what the NY Times regards as falsehoods from the President:

    https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/06/23/opinion/trumps-lies.html?mcubz=3

The list is annotated with sources. Is this list not factual, Scott?

Can you document half this many uncorrected falsehoods published in the NY Times, Washington Post, and CNN during the past eight months?

  5. Speaking of the media not being what it used to be and changing demographics :

"ESPN Pulls Robert Lee From Football Game Because Of His Name"

  6. Congratulations Mike, your blog post today revealed the last person who still believes the media strives for balance and factual reporting. Really so sad to see the true believer actually post a link to the NYT's to prove his point. Honestly, should a respond with something from Breitbart now?
Earth to the true believer, even the media has admitted balance and factual reporting are no longer their raison d'etre. Their new mission is to create and sustain their narrative version of what they believe the the truth to be. As they are all post modern thinkers the truth is whatever they need it to be, want it to be, or think it should be.

  7. I wonder why Scott avoided answering my question.

  8. I wonder why Bob avoids explaining why the Asian-American football announcer Robert Lee is being punished unnecessarily for carrying a "wrong" name that "offends" the obviously unhinged and clearly out of control Left. Youngstown State does not enjoy anywhere near the high profile "privilege" in the college football world that the University of Virginia, a member of the "power" Atlantic Coast Conference, does. So why was the hard-working Mr. Lee abruptly reassigned from doing the Virginia game to broadcasting the Youngstown State contest? Why are the supposedly noble and righteous Liberals intentionally preventing a minority citizen from advancing his professional career by working the most 'high-profile' jobs possible? Is the post-modern Left's sacred agenda really SO important that blameless individuals such as Mr. Lee must be unquestionably sacrificed when and if necessary?

  9. And, adding insult to injury Mr. M, Jerry Lee Lewis is still alive.

  10. As if the Lame Stream Media has NOT injured America enough already by openly encouraging and enthusiastically egging on copycat Colin Kaepernick national anthem "protests", it IS downright insulting to the basic intelligence of ALL citizens of this country that a hard-working Asian-American who has 'paid his professional dues' is not allowed to broadcast a power conference university's home football game on a major national sports network.

  11. Bob,

I answered the question. Who cares what the Grey Lady prints. NO ONE gives it the credibility of Truth, Fairness, or Objectivity anymore. Not even liberals such as yourself. You are apparently the last one.

  12. ironpigpen: I don't recall you asking me a question about ESPN's decision. Had you done so, I would have answered that it appeared ridiculous. I also would have said that a well-intentioned albeit wrongheaded decision by one sports network is not a sound basis for any broad conclusions about profound political matters or conclusions about a large and diverse group of people.

Scott: The question was whether the annotated list of Trump falsehoods published by the New York Times was factual. You did not answer it. If the NY Times is indeed filled with uncorrected factual errors, as you claim, it would be easy for you to identify them in the list of Trump falsehoods.

I've noticed your tendency to make statements that are unsupported by fact in service of whatever narrative you happen to be peddling. Your statement that I am a liberal is just the latest. I am not a liberal, in fact I voted for every Republican president until the current one.

  13. Bob, I don't believe anything is the Times anymore. No one should. Do you believe this link?

    or this one?

Sorry the NYT's is just as bad. By the way. Did you care about Hillary's lies? Or Obama's?

  14. By the why, no Trump supporter would vouch for everything the guy has said, but that's not the point! He isn't Hillary or a Democrat. They are what Trump supporters really fear and for good reasons. So until the Democrats get back to being a party that reflex mainstream opinion then Trump supporters will stay with trump no matter what. In the meantime, the media's throwing everything against the wall to see what sticks makes them look like school yard morons, and Democrats calling everyone haters, racists, homophobes, xenophobes, Islamaphobes...isn't winning them any new voters, and ugly riots in the street with demonstrators in black, with masks and clubs is just one more reason never to vote for a Democrat and stick with Trump.
