Allentown's Predicament

Pawlowski says that he isn't resigning because he did nothing wrong. I certainly believe the first part of his statement, that he won't resign.  Although, his support is limited almost exclusively to minority owned beauty and barber shops, that was enough to get him on November's ballot. The established business community and local government officials have made it clear to him that he is a liability, and that he should put the city ahead of his need for a paycheck. Perhaps these two segments should put their efforts together, and see if Pawlowski could be induced to resign with a payout. He is essentially totally ineffective now as a mayor, making the entire city hall payroll non-productive.

  1. I highly doubt that Pawlowski would resign in exchange for a payout. I really am beginning to wonder about his mental state. I see him as self-righteous, self-serving, and dare say delusional. Regardless of his presumed innocence, he's a blight on the city. The City without Limits has become the City of Corruption; not exactly a welcoming environment from the perspective of outsiders who may be considering relocation. In my view, if Pawlowski cared a modicum about the city, its image, and its future, he'd resign immediately.

  2. Paying a bribe to get rid of him isn't the answer. He's walking dead, both politically as well as a functional leader of the city. It just hasn't hit him yet just what his situation is. 50+ Felony charges is up in the Al Capone/Vito Corleone league of criminality.

Whomever his attorney is simply is not doing his job. Pawlowski needs a severe dressing-down to wake him up to just what he is facing, and all of his efforts need to be resolve this. God isn't going to save him, but his attorneys might help salvage the lives of his family.

  3. Isn't his attorney the same creep who defended the horrific abortion butcher/doctor in Philly a few years back. If so defending Ed is easy.

  4. Just double checked, he is the creep who defended Philadelphia abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell who was the "doctor" who ran what the press called 'a house of horrors".

  5. jamie@6:51, i wouldn't consider it a bribe, but a buyout. it's done all the time. the school district recently did it with their previous superintendent, and the one before him.

i suppose the city could go on in limbo until the november election, but if pawlowski wins again, i see a buyout almost as mandatory.

pawlowski isn't here because he cares about allentown. he wanted desperately to leave, that's why he ran for both governor and u.s. senate.

  6. This is very similar to Marion Barry - Mayor of Washington DC.

The alternative weekly Washington City Paper nicknamed him "Mayor for life"

    One of his famous quotes:

Outside of the killings, Washington has one of the lowest crime rates in the country.

  8. allentown city government has a $20 million dollar budget and is paralyzed by pawlowski. IMO, we cannot afford NOT to buy him out. state law prohibits convicted felons from receiving a pension, if those rules apply to cities, I do not know. at this point he would collect a pension, but so does the whole prior police force from five years ago.

  9. I would say buy him out with Illinois bonds.

  10. Mr. Molovinsky,

You might be interested to know that I was 'drinking with' none other than State Senator Pat Browne, free money guru/millionaire J.B. Reilly, public relations/propaganda expert Jeff Vaughn as well as Pullitzerish The Morning Call writer Bill "I Wouldn't Be So Crazy About the NIZ If I Lived In, Say, Altoona" White downtown at Bell Hall tonight.

For the most part, believe it or not, I was extremely well behaved ... except for the beers I had sent to Bill White. I instructed the bartender, who knows who frequents the place regularly and exactly which patrons can be counted upon with absolute certainty to tip far beyond the 'standard' fifteen percent with absolute certainty, to inform Mr. White that the drinks come from Altoona ... you should have seen the wheels in Mr. White's head spinning as he scanned the establishment trying to put two and two together.

I must confess, though, that I felt a little guilty as I watched Mr. White leave Bell Hall and make his way off in the direction of The Morning Call's main building. I felt like I should have confronted the guy and said something along the lines of, "Hey, Molovinsky hates my guts. And the next time I catch you using disparaging terms like 'dour' to describe the man, you just might find out exactly how rough these city streets can be sometimes after dark. So back to your suburban dwelling with you already and be quick about it, too, because I'm simply plain sick and tired of schmucks like you trashing anybody who does not tow Allentown's Democrat Party line quite the way you think they should."

I can assure you, however, that I shall not fall asleep at the wheel ever again in the future. Because I'd sure hate to see that noble and righteous award-winning blogger Bernie O'Hare have to lament that you have stopped catering to and/or provoking the extreme radical right here at this blog, as he has gleefully alleged in the past on more than one occasion. And because I am of the opinion that a big part of the reason why Bill White has gotten away with all the crap he has gotten away with over the years is because nobody has ever had the balls to confront the asshole face to face ... apparently, not even me.

Alright, fine, so now you could build a pay-to-pay case against me quite easily.

A pleasant rest of your evening, then.

    ROLF OELER
