Muhlenberg Poll Bodes Well For Pawlowski

A poll by Muhlenberg College indicated about a third of Allentown residents would vote for Pawlowski again.  The Morning Call reporter,  Emily Opilo, was surprised about how many city residents were unaware of Pawlowski's pending indictment.  She must think that everybody reads The Morning Call!!!  In general, the Hispanic minority majority are not well informed on local issues.  As I previously posted,  Pawlowski has been courting this demographic for months.   Many who do know of Pawlowski's troubles are not bothered by the accusations, even if true.  With seven candidates in the Democratic primary,  it will not take many votes to win.

If there is a silver cloud in this poll for the other candidates, it is the fact that Muhlenberg polls are always far off the mark.  Someone suggested that if the other candidates really want to see new leadership in Allentown,  that most of them should withdraw, and throw their support to someone at the front of the pack.  Having spoken to most of the candidates,  I don't see that happening.

  1. Mike,

Based on reports from the field, petitions, door to door,... I would guess those numbers accurately reflect what people think, or don't bother to think, here in Allentown.
On the west end there are plenty of people either aware of the facts or ignorant of them who support Pawlowski. Why? Because they read the paper. He transformed the city and never raised taxes. Did a politician ever have a better press agent?

  2. and remember how they helped him impugn critics such as us.

  3. Mr Armstrong is correct. All one has to do is look at the new buildings downtown and they associate Pawlowski with them. I understand the facts, however, that's what the perception is the Ed transformed downtown. The taxes is also a big plus for his campaign.

The fact is that no one gives a damn who in the city bureaucracy he pissed off. How well he plays with others in City Hall is not an election issue.

Also the thought of sam Bennett becoming mayor gives me a sour stomach.

  5. David, what did Sam do to you personally? I read blogs to gather info, but this appears to be more of a reality show rather than facts about political candidates. I'm glad you speak of truth.... So, let us have it! What did she do to you? I'm open to compassion if this person has hurt you in some form or another.

  6. Tim... Since you asked, I believe that Ms Bennett is simply just another Tax & Spend Progressive Liberal Democrat, and I also believe she feels entitled to be Mayor. . I found her to be grandstanding and obnoxious when St. Luke's was down the Donecker Mansion, and she was out there protesting, but really to be in front of the cameras pushing her name to the public. That was the day my opinion of her turned from benign to opposed to her candidacy.

Allentown needs a mayor of achievement and a background of successes. Not a political animal. I believe her destiny in life is to run a B&B. Not in public office.

  7. Speaking of Sam, what was the deal with her claim of 1st hand knowledge/ experience with"white slavery"?

  8. What are your thoughts on Nat Hyman?

  9. Alex, Nate Hyman is a developer/landlord who benefitted by donating to Pawlowski's campaigns by keeping Building Standards out of his business. He is not different than the current Mayor.

  10. it is my preference not to comment on my blog posts. however, once again for the record, besides believing that it is time for mr. pawlowski to move on, i'm not endorsing any particular candidate. although i'm hosting comments critical of some candidates, i may at my discretion delete unfounded comments submitted under a pseudonym.

  11. @ Dave, based on what you wrote I completely understand your personal stand on her. As I attend neighborhood group meetings and hear the other candidates....I witness all the other candidates stress their name and why they are the best choice for Allentown. She's right in line with what they do, but I have yet to read of any of her failures.... The Morning Call did an incredible article on the success of Mayfair under her leadership, many years ago Rendell praised her leadership for the success of Properties of Merit and if you research the Women's campaigns fund... She raised millions which was the goal. And after being a fly on the wall during the events for the MLK statue... that was a success too. I may be an (R), but some of my friends are talking about supporting her in the general. But, I do understand that your experience didn't go well with her. I feel the same about a couple of others candidates.....

  12. Sam Bennett vowed to chain herself to a fence in order to save a building from being demolished. The building in question was, indeed, knocked down - but Sam Bennett never got run over by the bulldozer as she had vowed to beforehand. Was it all a blatant lie poorly disguised as the proverbial publicity stunt by some lady clearly pandering to nothing more than raw emotion? Some might say that Sam Bennett failed to keep a high profile promise that she made to the public, who, apparently, could not have cared any less that they were essentially lied to. If elected Mayor of Allentown, how many more promises would the CEO of bed & breakfast Sam Bennett blatantly break without any fear of criticism from the general public?
