Pawlowski Manager Makes Honest Man Of Morning Call Reporter
Mike Fleck has made Daryl Nerl an honest man. I don't mean that they got married, but Fleck has hired Nerl to promote Pawlowski for his senate campaign. As a former reporter for the Call, Daryl did that anyway, making him very unobjective as a journalist. After being laid off by the Call during a major downsizing, he landed at a local AOL Patch. Now, at last, he can apply his political bias as a paid spin doctor, for Fleck's political campaign consulting. In addition to managing Pawlowski's senate campaign, Fleck has the entire Pawlowski stable of candidates; The PAC(s) includes the Allentown School Board, Allentown City Council and Lehigh County Commissioners. These campaigns are being financed by the NIZ Barons, bringing us some of the best candidates money can buy.

He has been there since mid January. When was his last piece?
ReplyDeletePawlowski has a long road to haul in places he's unknown. Erie, Oil City, Pittsburg, Gettysburg and all the other towns and cities of Pennsylvania.
ReplyDeleteTouting his NIZ "Success" isn't going to get him very far with his tired solutions of crony capitalism and throwing money at a problem.
Isn't Nerl back with the Call?
ReplyDeleteWill he be resigning from there first?
@6:31, recently nerl, as several other former full time reporters, were working as stringers for the call.
ReplyDeleteH Streets Strategies former media consultant Mick Dee went to work for Rep McNeill as a legislative assistant after he opened up a postion about the same time Nerl moved in. Nerl must use a phone booth like Superman to change from a reporter to campaign consultant?
ReplyDeleteMike,
ReplyDeleteI go back a long with Daryl, sadly he wasn't interested in the real truth only his, and his reporting reflected it. He is all that is wrong with modern journalism reporting things in a fashion that reflect his own point of view. Thus his new station will suit him well.
Scott Armstrong
His job's going to be an extension of what he did at the Morning Know-It-All: keep painting those mirrors so nobody realizes how naked and bloated the emperor is.
ReplyDeleteIt will be difficult for Nerl to highlight any Pawlowski talents beyond his ability to . . .
ReplyDeletesell off municipal assets
gift taxpayer dollars to friends.
There must be something else at play here besides actually winning. This is NOT a strong candidate.
Fred Windish
fred@2:19, first he ran for governor, now senator; apparently, he can't wait to get out of dodge. if the vibe is any different in downtown, i haven't felt it yet. expectations for allentown with the NIZ will exceed the reality, hence his rush to exit.
ReplyDeletePurely from the standpoint of a Pennsylvania taxpayer, especially those living outside the immediate Allentown Area, the NIZ has, so far, been a HUGE loser.
ReplyDeleteThe budget hole created could be as much as 80-100 million dollars already. This in a state that is already bleeding money in other ways. The whole NIZ endeavor will be 'underwater' for MANY years to come. To hold this out as Pawlowski's 'trophy' accomplishment is pretty weak, I'd say.
Our local media will continue to be 'kind,' no doubt. But, everywhere else, the Emperor will still have no clothes.
Fred Windish
Fred Windish is spot on. How will Ed campaign around the state. Will he tell others how their taxes are filling the hole in the state coffers to cover the 'gift' to a couple of favored developers in Allentown?
ReplyDelete9:50pm, Was this a gift or just a long winded document stuffed in at the last minute made into law¿ Who and what wrote this piece of fluff that is a one time deal for the few and has become a monopoly tool to turn allentown into a epicenter for the comercial centralization of all the employment oppertunities¿ There hasn't been one article of a life changed by this propogandized revitilization probability¿

Mr. Molovinsky,
ReplyDeleteBill White, himself, was quoted in his very own article as saying, "If I lived in, say, Altoona, I might not be so crazy about it because the plan created by State Senator Pat Browne is incredibly generous with state revenues. As someone who lives in the Lehigh Valley and works in Allentown, I think it is a gift horse we should be grooming and feeding with care." ("Allentown Financing Plan Should Help Neighborhoods", The Morning Call, February 21, 2013)
I am outright shocked no one, aside from me with a piece entitled, "Bill White's Unguarded Palace Of Sport", ever really attempted to draw more attention to Bill White's very own words.
But, whatever. Forward To Progress, comrade. Respectfully, of course.
Sincerely,
Rolf Oeler
Sounds as if a move by Talen Energy to Phillipsburg would place the entire NIZ in serious jeopardy.
ReplyDeleteIf we can trust the numbers outlined in today's Morning Call, losing that headquarters will probably burst the 'paper thin' math holding up downtown Allentown. This situation is DIRE, as I see it.
To make matters worse, such a move by a significant corporation out of Pennsylvania and back to New Jersey would represent a powerful taking point for someone like Chris Christie who looks to bolster his success there as governor. Not sure how the timing of this would work out for his 2016 aspirations, but he would be a fool not to make this happen quickly.
So, the question becomes, can Allentown go to the Pennsylvania taxpayer 'well' yet again?
If I recall, the Morning Call ran an earlier story indicating others in Pennsylvania government stated "No more building in Allentown" until we start to get our arena money paid back." So, does the future of the NIZ depend on what happens with Talen?
This story is HUGE, I think.
Fred Windish
fred@8:51, it is my observation that nothing is written in stone about the NIZ, either here with the "Authority,"or in harrisburg with the dept. of finance. which considerable, competing pressures being applied to Talen remain to be seen
ReplyDeleteMM,
ReplyDeleteanother edited out newsworthy weekend is upon us as allentowns king goes for another short ride¿ This man single handedly allows this K2 stuff to be sold out of every corner store excluding the arena area downtown¿
A few buildings does not a senator make espeicially when the Brown Hole downtown truely had nothing to do with Pawlousy¿ The writter along with many others are allready gone like a theif in the night¿
There is no fluff pieces in the morning gag naming the grant grab speicialist extrordinair¿
MM, will you please follow the kings trail of tears in this campaign for senator¿
