The $10 Million Dollar Man

There is an interesting letter to the editor in today's paper, where the writer regurgitates the image that Madison Avenue put in his head about Tom Wolf. The writer thinks that Wolf is a folksy guy, as portrayed in the television commercials. I don't know much about the real Tom Wolf, but neither does he. I do know that he's no outsider, having served under Rendell. I suspect that he didn't come back to his family business to save the worker's jobs, but because he stopped receiving payments on a note that he was holding. The letter writer speculates that this marvelous guy went from last to first place because he's such a champion of the people. I marvel about how oblivious people are to the influence of a good commercial.

  1. Mike, What's the surprise. Look who gets elected in Allentown. See what passes as progress and good government here. Living here teaches us to expect the worst from the voters.

  2. Yeah,Scott i'll tell ya the surprise. Look what passes as progress and good government in state government. You guys get your chance with Corbett and a Republican state house and senate and ya blow it. Blow it my friend. If you cant change the so called mess with the numbers stacked in your favor you never will. Wheres the pension reform, education funding reform, tax reform, tax cuts etc etc. The bottom line when your party gets in and gets control they do nothing. Maybe you should follow Mikes lead and encourage people to run as an independent. That just may be the answer

  3. scott and guy, my post wasn't meant to criticize wolf or the democrats, nor to endorse corbett or the republicans. my meaning was that the voters should not confuse madison avenue with truth or facts. needless to say, i hope to attract both democrats and republicans to my campaign. although only those in district 183 will be able to vote for me on nov. 4th, i hope to garner the support of people in 134, 132, 22, and 131. although you both honorably articulate the position of the two major parties, i hope to represent new priorities for all the voters. please understand that i will not host a democrat/republican debate on my comment section.

  7. scott, although your comment didn't condemn democrats by name, considering a republican hasn't been elected in allentown in many election cycles, and your commenting history, your reference was clear.

i think that we might all agree that between now and november the ad agencies will have a good season working for both corbett and wolf.

The creaky and unresponsive-moribund- two party system has succeeded in creating institutionalized apathy. Nothing ever changes for the good, no matter what worthless party is in office.

  9. Independents can be every bit as worthless ... particularly when they want to focus on Big Government-type crapola like "Food Deserts"

  10. @7:31, the "Food Desert" was a guest post, which i was glad to host. today's headline in The Morning Call is about the new supermarket coming to 7th street, which this blog scooped over a week ago.
