Tomorrow evening, Tuesday August 14, the Allentown WPA Association will once again meet in the lower level of The Allentown Library at 7:00PM. Although the group was originally started to cast light on the deteriorating condition of the WPA structures throughout the park system, we also discuss other issues affecting park users in Allentown. Regardless of your interest in the park system, or your point of view, you're most welcome to join us. The meeting will end promptly at 8:00pm, because of summer hours at the library.
The steps at Fountain Park connected the children of city center with the park, and their fathers with work at Mack Truck
Some of us work tomorrow night. Please if possible address the white plastic sewer pipe sticking up 3 feet in front of the new dual toilet built in Lehigh Parkway going toward the Roadrunners Club House. How could any contractor call this good work? But wait, someone else blacktopped a special needs walkway to this same toilet and dumped leftover blacktop in the nearby grass. It's still there.
ReplyDeleteYou referred to a contributor yesterday as John Muir type.
ReplyDeleteIt didn't seem like a compliment.
Are people who support both WPA restoration, and creek restoration based on ecology, welcome at the meeting?
I would like to think so,but don't want to,you know,assume.
@9:39, as i wrote in the post above, Regardless of your interest in the park system, or your point of view, you're most welcome to join us. fyi, i have in the past specifically requested avowed environmentalists to join us. although we agree to disagree about riparian buffers, we still have much in common with other park concerns.
ReplyDeleteGREAT PHOTO!!!!!!
ReplyDelete@12:46, for the record, while it certainly can pass for fountain park, it is not the fountain park steps on martin luther king drive, but rather a wpa project in washington state. there are only a few photo's (to my knowledge) of the actual projects under construction in allentown,
ReplyDeleteMaybe people can stop the name calling and steriotyping and find some comman ground and move forward.
ReplyDeleteIs that too much to ask here in Allentown?
Anon. And proud of it! It's still good to be an American.
God bless our parks!
When is the next meeting? I'd like to attend. Kevin Easterling
ReplyDeletekevin, we have not set a date for the next meeting. i'm honestly somewhat exasperated to see the interest in a dog park, while the WPA structures go unattended. i will announce the meeting here on the blog, but it will not be for at least several months.
