Bulldozer Coming to the Parkway

As an defender of the Allentown Park System, Wednesday evening's City Council meeting was profoundly disappointing. As a native, being disappointed by our own Park Director and our own City Council, only adds to the exasperation. Imagine listening to Greg Weiztel, here in town for three years now, tell Council that this plan will improve property values in Allentown. Greg should tell that to the descendent of General Trexler, who lived on Honochick Drive across from Cedar Park. She already sold her house and moved in disgust. Greg, nobody wants to hear that their house will be worth more when a hundred times more strangers bicycle by, except City Council.

As Weitzel, from where-ever, regurgitated that nonsense from the Greenway Trail plan salesman's pitch, (whose based in North Carolina) he found willing ears on Julio Guridy.
''I think our role as council is to leave the city in a better place than we found it, and I think this plan does that,'' said Councilman Julio Guridy.

On Wednesday, in addition to approving the general plan, Council approved the segment in Lehigh Parkway. Weiztel and Guridy are going to make Lehigh Parkway better.

  1. Badlands you gotta live it every day
    Let the broken hearts stand
As the price you gotta pay
Well keep pushing till it's understood
And these badlands start treating us good

  3. anon 12:50, i assume you saw the picture of the shooter at philly's on hamilton st, if not, buy a paper or go to mcall. anyway, philly's used to be the brass rail. i parked on that back lot and entered the brass rail countless times over the years. Allentown was a good town to throw away, but people told me years ago that it was getting "old" when i pointed out the direction in which we were going. we are now beginning to throw away our park system.

  4. "Give me something good..."

Free of charge, no cost to the reader --- of course!

What an entitlement mentality if I ever saw one.

A clear example of what makes you a better man than me, Mr. Molovinsky, as well.

    I would tell Anon 12:50 :

"You obviously don't give a damn about things important to me...

why on Earth would I give a damn about things important to you...

On my time and my dime?"

I would probably tell Anon 12:50 a few other things that could not be printed here, as well.

  5. rolf, what 12:50 means is that he supports the administration and the park plan, maybe even that the park plans will help revitalize allentown and improve property values. the guppies speak in code

  8. I hate to say it MM, but the renovations to the park are turning out absolutely beautiful. The Rose Garden, the Ott St Bridge, & Cedar Beach. All of them, absolutely beautiful.

  9. anon 9:56, there are those of us who find the additional paths, the widening of the paths. and the paving of all those paths objectionable. the rose and old fashioned garden are different with the straight connecting brick walkway. as an accommodation to the ADA and wheelchairs, I accept that.

  10. I happen to like Mayor Pawlowski, Park Director, Greg Weitzel and their plans.

I, too, believe that the Rose Garden is shaping up.

It's good to have a dissenting voice around, but sometimes you take it too far. We cannot go back to the past. We must move into the future.

Can't you do it occasionally respecting the people with positions of authority for doing a thankless job but who are trying to make our city better?
