Letter From The Shadow Mayor

Dear neighbors of Cedar Creek Park,
Since of the quality of your life and the value of your property is about to take a serious hit, I would like to blame all of your anxiety on misinformation. I can assure you that these plans had intensive input, just because you never checked what was taped on the wall inside City Hall is no fault of the Administration. We have justified these plans with the Master Plan of 2006, even though that document recommends less use of the park.

Among the improvements will be new restrooms, and although we never keep the old ones very clean, perhaps you can help. We will be building new attractions, but no new parking lots. In case the plan to create more spaces by creative striping on the existing lots doesn't completely fulfill the need, please consider letting visitors use your driveways and perhaps your bathrooms.

On the pool side of the park we will build a destination playground on the only area with no tree's. Although Mayfair and the other special events will have to expand over into the Rose Garden side to even maintain their current size, we have made suitable plans to accommodate that inevitability. The current jogging path will be paved and lighted, not unlike a fair midway.

A wedding pavilion will be built in the Rose Garden to encourage overuse of that jewel. All the above construction costs will be paid for by the Trexler Trust. You will pay for the intensive maintenance costs thereafter. Although 39 city workers have been laid off, the new attractions will be so appreciated that the visitors will leave less trash and litter.

You will soon be receiving a similar, but different letter from Mayor Pawlowski. He encourages you to attend a special meeting Aug. 13, to learn the error of your recent ways. I also urge you to attend, to convince City Council that they must assert themselves with a cease and desist order against the Park Department.

The Shadow Mayor,
Michael Molovinsky

  1. Love It!

Gun Shots at West Park at Eight This Morning. Where was PowerPointPawlowski When You Need Him? Oh, We Forgot. Vacation.

Since the Cedar Beach neighbors will be allowing park visitor overflow to utilize their powder rooms, we really like liquid soap.

  3. Saturday

The issue of property values is an interesting one. Those that have less sometimes resent those with more, but in a multifaceted city such as Allentown, why not celebrate its economic and cultural diversity.
Rose Garden neighbors have devoted decades to expensive and extensive home upgrades and maintenance to permit their homes to remain showcases. Why should city hall or anyone resent this? These taxpayers, as Mr. Molovinsky points out, pay thousands upon thousands of dollars in annual allotments and now city hall is about to punish them and equally importantly demonstrate to prospective homebuyers, invest in Allentown and this may happen to you, too!

  4. I received a package from the park commission yesterday.

In looking at it I noted the parking lot for the pool is 90 cars.

Yikes. Any expansion by 100 cars will SEVERELY cut into the green space of the park.

Add buses to that and a couple of funnel cake stands as well as the Pawlowski Fashions wedding dress shop and there is no more park.

If I were a trustee of the Trexler Trust (sic) I would be leery of the Kool-Aide served at your meetings.

  5. anon, signing himself Best Man, sent the following comment;

You forgot to mention that in the Master Plot all weddings in the Rose Garden must be followed by a reception at Eddies friends place at the Golf Course. I think that they have their liquor license back after knowingly operating without one for almost three months. I guess that the ( Mayor's) tentacles reach into the Pa LCB also.

Best Man, I have edited your term for the mayor. i did this because opponents of the plan are being labeled as discriminatory against the disabled and/or racist.
readers of this blog may have detected from my posting wednesday evening that i was rather dejected about the prospects for the cause of preserving the existing nature of the park. since then i have reason to believe that if we go twice more to the well, on the 13th and 19th of this month, we will empower concessions. considering i started this campaign in may, i will continue...

  6. moderation and mistakes; those most familiar with the blogosphere know that in addition to the normal apologists and sycophants, there are people who can best be described as obsessed. the obsessed submit comments which they hope will be published, so that they can then take them out of context and use them as a weapon. as i mentioned in my previous comment, accusations of discrimination against the disabled, elitism, racism, etc. are being used to dismiss dissent. please understand when submitting comments i may mistake one of them as subversive in that way, and not publish it. if such is the case with your comment, my apology in advance.

  7. How anyone can say Allentown residents especially Rose Garden district wish to discriminate against special needs children. Not one person who spoke in past three weeks said a negative word about special needs park equipment; only addressing the issue of non-notification, the overwhelming prospect of 550 children in one small area that is known as a flood plain, the destruction of an antique Rose Garden, and the lack of adequate parking to accommodate such an enormous crowd.

    Mr. Molovinsky, Agree!
Have attended all three meetings. Attendance keeps growing. Do not stop information flowing. Keep it up!

  9. Do any of those behind this park agenda have any idea of how many disabled kids there are in Allentown or Lehigh County?

Estimates on how often they will visit the park? What days of the week? What kind of support will be needed?

Will more come from a larger surrounding geographical area? If so, also, how often and how many?

Who is going to protect the kids using this park? Who is going to monitor the park? How is it going to be monitored?

How will the city ensure emergency medical services will be readily available in the event an untoward event occurs?

How is the city going to protect itself against the legal liability that will undoubtedly ensue?

How many additional employees will the city employ to meet these demands through parks, the police, etc?

I think these are typical business questions that should be addressed when any business plan is drawn up.

Ed! Do you know the answers to these questions?

    Because they can.

No one else in the city will have money soon, why should they?
    .
This city has not been well run. Despite the fact the city is broke, they continue on with expenses like this park "improvement" because the argument is fairness, not sound fiscal policy.
    .
For those who have invested in Allentown, they have to size up the future of the city and decide whether to stay and fight or count their losses and go.

Standard operating procedure, usually used when good counter arguments can not be provided.
    .
How did they miss calling you a misogynist? They usually manage to wedge that one in the name calling somehow.

  15. Mr. Molovinsky,
Is it true that as of today Sunday, Aug. 9th city council still has not seen a copy of the final blueprint for the Cedar Beach Destination Playground?

Perhaps you have a connection at city hall that will explain why mayor's letter was not sent two years ago and why Weitzel refused a copy of a public document to
    city residents.

  17. anon 5:27,, not sure what you're implying. my letter is in reply to pawlowski's. i should tell you that he has, on more than one occasion, made derogatory comments about me in retaliation for my political activism. i believe your comment would be best sent to him.
