The Trump Speech

When I asked a liberal friend what she thought of the Trump speech to the UN, she replied, Well, he stayed on script. I suppose that is about all the credit a liberal in our current political environment can muster for Trump. On Facebook, I saw the usual anti-Trump cut and pastes. One said that he read a speech he didn't write or understand. Actually, Trump understood the speech completely. There was nothing in it that he hasn't said before.  Trump is no orator; He has less of a gift for the spoken word than any president in memory. Never the less,  he gave the exact speech needed on today's world stage. He bluntly stated that both Korea and Iran are roque regimes, threatening the world and their own people.  With which of these two countries would being subtle be more effective?

  1. Trump is hard to watch if one is looking for eloquence, grace, and style. That said, apparently many in America have had their fill of polished politicians and pretty words that in the end are just that and nothing more. I would prefer a Trump who set a higher tone of decorum in public but he is hands down far better than any Democrat presently on the national stage. No matter what he says or does, he will always be better than Hillary would have been.

  2. For over a year I have been waiting for the Trump team to add to his popular "America First" declaration the second part which is simply 'but not America alone." He's finally there. Trump could have saved himself a lot of angst by simply making that case two years ago. As a disciple of Buckley, Goldwater, Reagan, Nixon (foreign policy) and Buchanan, I believe we must project strength in order not to have to use it.

A thought about North Korea. We have spent many years successfully testing and deploying Reagan's Strategic Defense Initiative. Does anybody think we watched Rocket Man send long-range missiles toward and OVER Japan and we just said 'oh well?" I believe (for what it is worth) that we know exactly where and when those shots are fired and that they carry no load. That also tells me that we are ready and able to shut off Kim's power and command and control when the time is right.

  3. "Rumbling, bumbling, stumbling," to quote that well-known analyst, Chris Bierman. I believe that it is extremely important to bear in mind that, at the end of the day, it's about substance and NOT style. In other words, score me some touchdowns any way you can because there is no such thing as points for being pretty about it, anyway. Be it national security or the National Football League, the overriding objective remains that same. Enough with the utterly pathetic and embarrassing apologies from the likes of Hillary "Blame It On You Tube Video" Rodham Clinton and He Who Shall Not Be Named By Me Here At This Blog already. China stated quite some time ago that little North Korea is on its own if it wants to continue blatantly provoke the much bigger and much stronger United States. How much more informed about the situation do I really need to be? Peace through strength, period --- I, for one, just don't care how many fruitcake left wing Liberals wet their pants or how many times CNN shows a hopefully damaging headline stating "Trump Threatens North Korea". Because, sadly, some extremely misguided people will just never ever bash it through their thick skulls that the former owner of a United States Football League owner was elected President of this great nation for certain very specific reasons.

  4. Trump simply made an ass out of himself, and worse is rapidly diminishing American influence to nadir.

His rant against Iran was silly, since not one other country will join us in sanctions against Iran now that it has been established they are in compliance with the Nuclear Agreement. The tin foil hat Reich Alt Right screams it was a bad deal because it does not prevent Iran from EVER possessing a bomb. DUH! Like where is it rational that only the powers that currently have it are the only ones to be permitted to keep it. The knowledge know how genii was out of the bottle once the first bomb went off. It's only a matter of resources and the will to build one. We can't stop anyone determined to do so. But, the deal does did halt Iran for a 15 year period. If we pull out of the Agreement, we simply lose more business/trade market shares to other countries who will pick up the slack from our disengagement, as is happening now with trade deals all over the world. Thanks to Trump, China is now signing trade deals as we lose the agricultural, beef and other export markets to countries eager to fill the vacuum of our pull outs. Soon produce, meat & fruit prices will soar domestically thanks to Trump's scare & deport policies, as no adequate labor force to harvest & process same, and more local economies suffer will from the population loss to schools and stores continue to grow as the undocumented move elsewhere. The Trump/Republican healthcare "reforms" (i.e. tax cuts for the rich)will cause thousands of health allied jobs that Obamacare created to evaporate, especially decimating rural hospitals, pharmacies and the such.

There is a reason we haven't tried to shoot down any North Korea ICBM fired over Japan....the first time we attempt it and fail, public confidence in our anti-missile ability will erode, and Trump doesn't want to happen on his watch. He will just continue to bluster, and the world will continue to essentially ignore him, as our Allies have all realized he is simply not up to the job as the Leader of the Free World.
