US Senator Dave McCormick(Pa), put out a video suggesting that New Yorkers upset with new mayor Mamdani should move to Pennsylvania. Thanks Dave, but there is enough in Washington and Pennsylvania to improve, that could better occupy your thoughts.
Perhaps you could put out a video explaining why our fleet is sailing to Venezuela. Perhaps you could video the bumper to bumper traffic on Rt. 22 through the Lehigh Valley.
Most important, perhaps the video could explain what you have been doing since you were elected? Our other senator had been active in encouraging members of his party to end the shutdown. While you're worried aboutt New Yorkers who want to leave their homes because of Mamdani, maybe you should instead concern yourself with Pennsylvanians upset about Trump.
I'm not here to be polite or popular

Take a look at any election map from 2024. The overwhelming area of Pennsylvania is territory friendly to Trump.
ReplyDeleteWhere most Pennsylvanians live, in the urban areas, those counties are coded blue on the map.
DeleteI suppose where the deer and the bears live, as the counties with low, rural populations of people are coded red. If they favor the GOP or favor Trump is another matter.
anon@4:18, spoken like a true anonymous partisan, but the forecasters are looking at the 2025 map for the 2026 midterms.
ReplyDeleteNew Yorkers should stay in New York where they belong. Let them live with the choice they made.
ReplyDeleteThe Dems just blinked.
ReplyDeleteThe reality of the presidential election map is Pennsylvania speaks for itself.
So you give props to Fetterman for “encouraging members of his own party to end the shutdown”. While the shutdown may have ended, Fetterman’s “efforts” didn’t really seem to have much effect as far as being why it ended.
ReplyDeleteMcCormick consistently voted to fund the government, as did Fetterman. BOTH deserve credit for that.
As to McCormick’s video welcoming New Yorkers fleeing NYC, it was stupid and I’ll take a pass.
NYC was a cesspool before Mamdani, due to the bad policies of the democrats that voters put into office. Bringing more New Yorkers here who will vote for those same policies and politicians isn’t very smart and amounts to societal suicide. It’s the equivalent of inviting a swarm of locusts over so Pennsylvania is the next place the locusts can suck dry.
If McCormick wanted to invite those who recognized the error of those policies and who believe in freedom and free markets, his video fell short. In essence, he missed a great opportunity for a teachable moment.
Mamdani has all these things he wants the "Rich" to pay for as part of his Democratic Socialism.
DeleteApparantley he was talking to New York Govenor Kathy Hochul to pay for all of his promises. Hochul is facing a tough re-election campaign next year and when Mamdani asked her to raise taxes, she gave him a flat "no" because she understands that's a death wish for her re-election campaign.
I suspect Mamdani is all promises because the actual New York politicians know he's political death, well with the exception of AOC ......
New Yorkers have been flooding into eastern Pennsylvania for years now and have changed the character of both Lehigh and Northampton counties immensley. And made Bieber very successful with the daily bus runs to and from Port Authority Bus terminal. Or whomever is running that service now.
One of the reasons I decided I was not going to return to Allentown as well as I never thought much of New Yorkers and the culture they brought to Allentown , They can keep Brooklyn in Brooklyn and the rest of all their culture there there.
They have infected the area already just look at the failing government welfare. Downtown allentown will have the empty apts flooded with the NY defectors.
Delete7:13. I think you’ve been napping. Bieber went bankrupt years ago. Too bad too, I used the service often and I truly miss the convenience of it.
DeleteMr.Moll, sir;
DeleteWith all due respect, the New Yorkers who have been flooding into urban Allentown are a world and a breed apart from the New Yorker who are concerned about the Marxist, Muslim Mayor elect.
anon@5:12: Only a blind partisan could say that. You still don't get it. The public blames the Republicans for the shutdown, even if it was the Democrats who wouldn't vote for the bill. But wait until new health insurance rates hit the market, then they will blame the Republicans more, rightfully so. Your wait is about eleven months away.
ReplyDeleteanon@5:18: I agree that the six Republicans in NYC who share McCormick's values will not move to Pa., they know that Mamdani will be able to change NYC little, to not at all. I agree that the video was "stupid", but what does it tell us about our senator?
ReplyDeleteWhen you say “…they know Mamdani will be able to change NYC little, to not at all”, what do you mean?
DeleteI certainly think Mamdani will change NYC, and it will be even worse (far worse) than the crap show it is now.
Wait until he sets up huge speakers in Manhattan to blast the Muslim Call to Prayer 5 times per day as is already being done in Dearborn, MI and Minneapolis, MN.
DeleteWhy not just ban Anonymous posters from participating here altogether? It obviously bothers you. You made that very clear.
ReplyDeleteWell, one thing McCormick has done during his term is to repeatedly vote to end the Democrat Socialist created Shutdown.
ReplyDeleteAs a resident of Northampton County (Bethlehem/Easton suburb) I can tell you our residential areas have been inundated by New York City residents moving in for the past several years. New York license plates are VERY common all over our neighborhoods.
Seems unlikely the flow of New York residents moving here has much to do with the new Mayor elected just several days ago. They are coming here to escape extremely high property taxes in predominantly Democrat New York Boroughs.
mj adams
DeleteThe NYC residents who have been flooding into the Lehigh Valley for the last 40 plus years are not the New Yorkers who will be leaving NYC for Florida and other successful Red enclaves should the Marxist, Islamic, foreign born, Jehad friendly, grinning man child seriously damage the economic and social fabric of the greatest city in the history of the world.
Yes, NJ’s cost of living is high but it’s hardly a bastion of DSA socialism and it’s not residents from Hunterdon County streaming into urban Allentown.
How long can it be before the Trump haters unambiguously supports Gavin Newsom as the antidote for “partisanship”?
See:The Latinization of Allentown,
DeleteNY Times Sunday Magazine, May,15, 1994.
Wow, one thing you can always rely on, is republicans will accept anything Trump says it does no matter how cruel or mindless or self centered. He could truly shoot someone dead in Times Square and you would be okay with it.
ReplyDeleteOld Scranton Joe was my idea of a steady and reliable world leader.
Deleteanon@5:59: I don't ban anonymous comments because they comprise 95% of those submitted. While I don't fish for comments, I realize that many readers enjoy reading them. I do discriminate against them, forgive me.
ReplyDeleteanon@6:00: It is hard to relate to adjectives, such as socialist, regardless which party uses them. I can assure you that there are also plenty of R pockets around the country with high taxes.
anon@6:39: Mandani will find the municipal unions, police, fire, teachers, etc. in NYC so strong that there isn't much he can affect.
I have no problem relating to such adjectives. For example, using Conservative, Liberal, Independent when describing VOTERS. But, your interpretation is all that counts here. Thank you.
DeleteMike, do you REALLY believe that if the democrats win the 2026 and 2028, the nation will then be in a good place. We may soon see a mass dropout of voters if this whipsawing continues.
ReplyDeleteRay@7:33: I never said that it would be better, but predict that it will happen, because only R partisans can relate to current events. BTW, the $2K tariff rebate will negate any improvement to the debt problem.
ReplyDeleteMike, you are correct about the rebate, I believe I criticize Trump's "thinking out loud" almost everyday, but much of this has not translated into reality.
DeleteTrump is the best we have right now, and we all better hope he is successful. The country is running out of time in many ways and the democrats, so obsessed with Trump, offer no solutions.
wont be long and the Congressional representatives from Ohio, and West Virginia will be suggesting that unhappy Pennsylvanians should move to their states.
ReplyDeleteI don’t see an exodus of Dem voters from the Philadelphia metro area, the Pittsburgh metro area, and the LV fleeing anywhere.
Delete80 percent of Pennsylvania is populated by our fellow citizens who voted for Trump.
Curtis Sliwa was the best man for the job, he was a real life Charles Bronson from "Death Wish" dispensing swift justice to punks and rapscallions on the subways of Gotham. Sliwa was also a cat lover at one point housing 15 in a studio apartment some tried to paint him as a kook but I just saw a big heart .
ReplyDeleteThe Commie Named Mamdani will send an Exodus of biblical proportions, who accepts these refugees is anyone's guess me thinks Florida will get the lions share it is the place where woke goes to die after all
Molovinsky On Allentown seems to have lost focus.
ReplyDeleteMike, when woke leaders or even worse, avowed Democratic socialist of America are elected to the highest position in one's city, residents have very valid reasons to flee. In NYC's case PA is a solid, stable destination as our governor, although a Democrat is not a far left Radical like Mandami, or our woke as is our mayor Matt tuerk. Again, back to Allentown, while you have been obsessed by Trump, our woke mayor passed his woke zoning code that will increase density in the downtown and surrounding neighborhoods, make it far easier to turn residential homes into rooming houses, allow living units to be constructed in the tiny backyards of our already overcrowded downtown, and worst of all, allow disused churches such as Emmanuel at 16th and Chew to become de-facto daytime homeless shelters. This will impose a severe hardship on the West Park neighborhood. this will effect my wife and I directly, but the entire city will be permanently altered in a very negative fashion by this new code. Not a word of this seminal legislation made it to Molovinsky On Allentown. Why?
ReplyDeleteThe DSA, the party of Mandan, is crystal clear about its positions, as is Mandani himself.
ReplyDeleteThere is zero reason, absolutely zero reason, to doubt the meaning of the term “socialism” in this context other than rank ignorance, delusion, or willful disregard.
Scott, actually, I. have posted about all these things, usually contained within another post. However, the Emmanuel Church had a separate post on March 13th, Church of Contention. In the last several years Allentown added 3,000 rentals, between the NIZ and converted commercial. While we agree that additional units don't benefit Allentown, and punish the ASD, I'm less worried about the zoning changes than you. I agree that they're not in the city's best interest, but I doubt that investments will be made to bring them to fruition. AKA, nobody will build in their back yard.
ReplyDeleteBeyond my posts, I have hosted comments from you on these topics numerous times.
Perhaps if I have been ranting against Shapiro instead of Trump, you would have less objection to my posts beyond Allentown.
Strange that you would be less interested in what is by all accounts a radical and experimental zoning code written by a college professor who has big dreams of reshaping urban areas. I guess you're right, what could go wrong? And by the way, what is likely to happen can at Emmanuel can also happen all over the city in it's many underused or empty churches. But again, perhaps everything will be peaches and cream. The real threat to Allentown is Trump.
Deleteanons@7:52, 9:19: While Mamdani is a socialist, R partisans have taken to use the term with any Democrat. In those cases it is meant as a pejorative, very different than descriptive terms, such as liberal or conservative.

Are the R’s capable of pimping propaganda with the best of the pathetic, corrupt, neoliberal, lying Democrats?
Ahhh…..obviously.
It’s that heavy seasoning of hypocrisy that the Democrats add that endears them to me as others have mentioned here before.
I’m fascinated by rank hypocrisy.
On the whole I find the contemporary Republican considerably more transparent than the D’s.
The Democrats offer nothing save DEI, Identity Politics and Hate Trump.
Trump pretty consistently shows up exactly as who he is, for better, worse, or indifferent.
I spent almost half a century as a Democrat, so there’s that.
Who in their right mind would call Nancy Palosi anything other than an uber-capitalist?
DeleteMike, an increasing number of Democrats are embracing the term and those numbers are growing. The DSA is moving to take control of the Democratic party. Who can blame the Republicans for calling a spade a spade. No one to my knowledge has label Shapiro as one.
Delete@7:06
ReplyDeleteOne wonders when your personal experience in national politics began.
I’m guessing somewhere around 2018.
Why is it that the word, woke, only gets used by old white guys? And it always gets used like a spear to fend off attackers. Hey New Yorkers, get off my lawn.
ReplyDelete@9:35
DeleteConsider, for a moment, the current state of the ASD, then tell me more about lawn care.
Your message was heard by thousands of Pennsylvania senior voters last year. The outcome, like the outcome in the other Blue Wall States, is now a matter for the historical record.
Congratulations.
9:58. why identify people by age and race and categorize them? Don't you see the ugly pernicious? It is nothing more than neo racism and agism. By the way, most older white guys are liberal like you and frankly, just as snarky, judgmental, and angry. The term "Woke" is used by those who declare themselves so. It wasn't invented by some, "old white guy" was it? Get a clue, anger therapy, and report back. Trust me, life is wonderful when you learn to let the anger go. Now, breath deep, and exhale while you think nice thoughts.
Deleteanon@11:50: New Yorkers are not very concerned. Mandani won the primary, and then the general. The voters had two opportunities to reject him, if they were so inclined.
ReplyDeleteEarth to you Mike! Are you reading me? I have a son in Manhattan and friends who have a condo there. They are very concerned. Mandani just today signaled there would be big changes with policing. In other words, there will be far less of it. He doesn't need the governor's stamp of approval to achieve his goal of social justice policing. Just as in Allentown he is the de-facto chief of police.
DeleteWhen Cuomo is the logical alternative the system is deeply flawed.
ReplyDeleteVery reminiscent of Allentown don't you think?
DeleteLet’s be honest, if NY/NJ residents were not moving here for the past 30 years this region would be Altoona and our homes would be worthless. You can’t have your cake and eat it too.
ReplyDeleteOkay, let’s be honest.
DeleteIn the last 30 odd years Allentown went from being an All American City to being an urban dump.
No rational family with any options is going to send their child through the ASD system.
No one.
The beautiful parks are in steep decline, the downtown can’t sustain any restaurant scene and even heavily subsidized businesses are a non-starter.
The much ballyhooed young urban professionals never showed up, to no one’s surprise.
LMT is booming.
I Allentown is a scary ghost town after dark.
No one I know goes to center city for anything anymore.
The only institution that functions is the Parking Authority.
The City Council is wacky and the mayor is a cartoon character.
I’m a native and the decline is more precipitous than I could have ever imagined.
The Lehigh Valley is growing like a donut. Downtown Allentown is the donuts hollow core.
DeleteAll this reality makes me wonder WHY that failed Neighborhood Improvement Zone has not already been terminated. That area truly is a money pit, a black hole that grows deeper every year. Pennsylvania taxpayers are being shafted for sure.
Deleteanon@2:04: It is a 30 year program about half done. Despite not revitalizing Allentown, it has been very lucrative for the couple of people owning all the privately owned, but publicly financed buildings.
DeleteI live in an upscale neighborhood of $ 1,000,000+ homes. Mine has been totally paid for since 2005. I have many close neighbors who came here recently from NY/NJ. I have no problem with my NY/NJ neighbors. They are usually professional people like doctors, lawyers, business owners, etc. One is a Division 1 basketball coach!
ReplyDeleteMy recent neighbors all express their happiness living here now. I am certain they were a factor in the value of my own home rising. Overall, the amount and quality of nearby restaurants has improved due to their presence.
I say, good for them, and welcome!
At 2:29 you either live in the far West End where the new neighbors send their children to private schools or you are a liar.
DeleteThose restaurants are not east of 19th Street.
DeleteMost, if not all, are in Lower Machungie Township.
You assume the people reading this blog are idiots.
2:29 here. Incorrect on both assumptions. I live in Saucon Valley. Never had children, but know ASD very well from the inside.
Delete1:29 Those people are likely still driving to the Delaware to dine as my wife and I do.
Deleteanon@1:13: While by my perceptions Allentown also has depreciated, but that perception is based on my memories. To the nine year old child sitting right now in one of our elementary schools, right now are his/her reality. Maybe that child moved here from a more urban place, and even finds current Allentown calming. At any rate, there are no time machines.
ReplyDeleteI'll even push back about council and the mayor. I believe that he has honest intentions.
Agreed.
DeleteFor many, even most, of the New Yorkers who have moved to Allentown in the last three or four decades it’s a step up from the New York reality that they came from.
By every objective metric the quality of life in Allentown has significantly declined.
Hogar Crea was the pointy tip of that demographic spear - politically incorrect, forgotten, but true.
God bless the children who call center city Allentown home.
What are the current reading and math scores for children in the ASD?
Delete2:15. as a former school board member I can say with certainty they have been annually trending from bad to worse. People should be outraged, but it's Allentown.
Deleteanon@2:17: I only printed your comment to announce that most comments with the word liar, etc. or other hostilities will not appear... anon 1:29 was only. talking about professional New Yorkers that moved here. He never implied where he lived.
ReplyDeleteMM
DeleteJust the facts, Jack.
Calling out comments that are in part or totally lies strikes me as more of a civic duty than anything “hostile”.
DeleteIt seems to me that the operative word in the previous comment is “verifiable”.
A technicality... I do not know which comment a reader is responding to until the comment appears on the post. At that point I may find the comment inappropriate, and delete it.
