The new pavilion at Cedar Park had a full house for the Lehigh County Democratic Committee picnic. I understand their enthusiasm, with the Trump administration being so divisive. While Trump certainly did seal the border, the deportation portion is over the top to all but the diehard partisans.
Although the midterm is over a year away, the Mackenzie postcards have already started arriving. The Democrats don't yet even have a name to push, but their mailers are also already flowing.
If money doesn't sway too much, the County Executive seat is in play come this November. While Siegel's war-chest is huge, the Board of Commissioners is so far left, suburban voters may push back toward the center with MacLean.

I am a Northampton County voter registered as No Party, but I am solidly Conservative on most issues.
ReplyDeleteIn terms of national politics, you are overestimating the appeal of Democrats and Liberalism right now. Voters aged 18-40 are now rejecting the radical Democrat form of political behavior in surprising numbers across the nation.
You minimize the positive achievements of the Trump administration. Just continuing the original Trump tax cuts for at least another term will save ALL citizens thousands of dollars per year. As senior citizens, both of us will save an even bigger share of tax dollars than we did even during the initial Trump tax cuts. We will keep more of our Social Security and other pension income.
Deportation of non-citizens who entered here but chose to remain here illegally is extremely popular nationwide. Particularly the criminal gang members being the primary target and sent back.
Allentown is a completely different circumstance, however. Allentown is a political lost cause. Just as San Francisco, Chicago, Portland, etc. In such urban areas, anything hard Liberal can expect to win. Too many takers, not enough makers.
I expect no real change in the way Allentown votes. No longer my concern, I moved out years ago.
You've probably read all those messages from Trump critics who refer to ICE as the Gestapo or promote the idea that ICE is picking up grandmothers.
ReplyDeleteThat's where we are. Enforcing immigration is suddenly bad. Did anyone say anything when President Obama deported three million? How quickly they forget.
Trump has begun to do what every country does. We decide who comes in and how long they stay. Have you checked the fine print on that tourist visa that you fill out when you go anywhere other than America? I read it, and it tells you that you have to obey local laws or face consequences.
Of course, many of Trump's critics want amnesty for the millions who violated the law and got away with it. Amnesty is just a nice way of saying that you get in for free, but everyone else standing on the "legal" line has to pay lawyers and wait their turn. What kind of a system is that? It's not immigration. It's more likely voter recruitment.
I think that most Americans get it. Unfortunately, too many immigration activists don't get it because their game is going away.
anon@5:53/6:45: understand that you're addressing an independent conservative who voted for Trump in 2016. (Libertarian in 2020, no vote 2024) I'm glad the border is finally being monitored properly, but otherwise, could do without the performances, such as the attacks on the Venezuelan boats. I expect this week you'll see what the world thinks of Trump in the UK.
ReplyDeleteThe premise of this post is that people want moderation, from both the far right and far left.
At any rate, please refrain from a third comment on immigrants. I feel bad not printing comments, especially long ones, but the repetition bothers me more.
Policy wise, Trump and the Republican Party are the moderate party in America presently. America sees that and as you say will vote accordingly.
DeleteAttacking fentanyl smugglers is excellent!
DeleteNotice no one protested, tried to stop the meeting, or phoned in bomb threats. Live and let live.
ReplyDeleteThe Democrats are destined to win as they are the party of inclusion and equity spread love not hate erase the scourge of MAGA at the local level and expand upon that! Vote Josh Siegel!
ReplyDelete“F@&k the police!”
DeleteVote Siegel!!!
Hmmm... Siegel has 'em all buffaloed. Me thinks this is an election to sit out or cast no vote in that direction as the choices stink!!! Just my $02!
ReplyDeleteI appears the democrats are still hoping to win on being everything anti-Trump, it did not work in 2024 and is a tired and useless policy. How about some attractive polices based on the well being of the country and not more promises of free stuff. The free stuff is over, we are broke.
ReplyDeleteInclusion may appeal to some but in the big picture everyone is included if they desire to be active in the process.
Democrats need a platform, if they want to be a relevant party, I see nothing, they have self destructed.
