That should not be the focus.

No matter how dedicated a group of volunteers, the ongoing maintenance required by the Parkway (and other City parks) requires full-time workers.

The point of the boat landing cleanup should not only be to reclaim what has been covered over the last year, but to publicize the misplaced priorities of this administration.

While much-needed park workers lost their jobs, the Mayor got a raise and all of his assistants remained.

Anyone concerned about the Parkway should remember this come election time and hold those responsible accountable. That includes those on City Council who have allowed those park workers to be lost.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-951782330457966647.post-82290186710937386382010-08-31T08:24:24.913-04:002010-08-31T08:24:24.913-04:00"help everyone understand how much hard work ..."help everyone understand how much hard work and effort goes into this popular project."

August 30, 2010 7:03 PM

Mr. Molovinsky,
Maybe with you on top of this,
the Lights installation takes the park workers from other work.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-951782330457966647.post-79117879710346702612010-08-31T08:17:02.159-04:002010-08-31T08:17:02.159-04:00We'll help you with the volunteer efforts. I'm now 49 and live two hours north, and my wife and I still return on weekends to walk and run. We know there are very few parks like this anywhere in the country. What can we do to help clean and restore it to its former beauty? Mr. MM, please post dates and times of any such planned events.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-951782330457966647.post-33352686142255732982010-08-30T21:12:25.495-04:002010-08-30T21:12:25.495-04:00MM -

After my run, I walked up to the nearby spring house (behind the credit union).

It looks like the wall of the pond outside the springhouse has been undermined. Water is visible (through a sink hole) and appears to be coming from under the wall.

I would guess that this does not bode well for the structure if it is not repaired before winter.Mike Schwarenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-951782330457966647.post-90112161786806033792010-08-30T20:08:16.375-04:002010-08-30T20:08:16.375-04:00Sign me up Mike! when's the clean up this year...Sign me up Mike! when's the clean up this year?!Chris Caseyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03229946755174182758noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-951782330457966647.post-81319930044871645152010-08-30T19:03:32.905-04:002010-08-30T19:03:32.905-04:00Why doesn't the city's Friends of the Park...Why doesn't the city's Friends of the Parks undertake this boat landing debris maintenance as one of its public service mission projects?
Also, why doesn't this same group
undertake the doggie do baggie replacement in all the parks? No way Lehigh Parkway's staff can do it all! The city's park dept. is 20 men less. No department can maintain a past schedule with such a huge loss of manpower.
On another topic but close at hand, Mr. Molovinsky, since you are the city's eyes and ears for all things parks, are you aware within a month or so, the Lehigh Parkway staff will be required to put down their shovels and clippers and begin the annual "Lights" installation project.
The Lights in the Parkway doesn't just happen although most think it it does. It takes hundreds upon hundreds of man hours to install and remove and now you can be an eye-witness and online reporter to help everyone understand how much hard work and effort goes into this popular project.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-951782330457966647.post-47693626864648251262010-08-30T14:12:10.454-04:002010-08-30T14:12:10.454-04:00gary ledebur said...

It would be better for the park department's public relations image to take these down as routine weekend visitor comments are anything but positive. Oddly enough, the bins at Trexler Park...always full.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
