A Victory For The Traditional Park System

Followers of this blog know that I have been waging a war against the weed wall blocking both the view and access to the streams.  Perhaps my last post on June 14th finally struck the right chord, but at any rate the weed wall has been cut down from behind the rose garden.  Although this is done occasionally to control invasive species in the weed barrier,  I have confirmed on good authority that indeed this recent cutting represents a change in policy.   I would like to express my gratitude to both park director Lindsay Taylor and Mayor Ray O'Connell for their time on this and other issues.

Although I am grateful,  there is another issue needing attention....  Along the entire stretch of the Cedar Creek between Ott Street and Cedar Crest Blvd there is but one bench along the creek.  We elderly not only need access to the water, but a place to sit, rest and enjoy the serenity General Trexler intended.

As residents flock to the parks today to celebrate the holiday, I will continue to advocate for those aspects of the traditional park system which for decades were featured on picture post cards, as shown above.

  4. Thank you for continuing to shine a light on the weed barrier all along the creeks in our parkways. The creek behind the Rose Garden and behind Cedar Beach Pool looks like it was intended to look - as a well kept park. The rest of the parkway system should follow, it will look 1000% better and as it was designed to look.

Next battle is pushing City Council and the Parks Department to rescind the idiotic law prohibiting people and animals from wading in the creeks.

  6. Hey Mr. Molovinsky.... as a concerned Allentonian without having commented previously, I too give much thanks in the area of your support for the parks system. However, to be true to yourself, the overall service is what is lacking throughout the city in genersl and parks system in this case. When you are loud enough to get O'Connell's attention to Cedar Beach other parks, namely urban parks, suffer more. Please take a ride to Jordan and the spray park in the 400 block of N. 5th St. You will see devastation, litter and more. I will not let you thank L. Taylor who is an absentee landlord. I will add more insight and apologize for the anonymous comment as I must worry about my employment.

  7. While I am in agreement that city services in general are lacking, you can't blame the city when the people who the parks are supposed to serve are trashing them.
