The Docility Of The Allentown Liberal

I continue to be amazed by the multiple personality of the local Democrats.  While anguished over Trump in Washington,  they seem to tolerate a Boss Tweed in Allentown.  As I've posted before, I think that Pawlowski has the edge in Tuesday's election,  having assembled a coalition of minority shareholders.  While he doesn't have the support of their organized groups, he has tirelessly campaigned in the barber shops of center city, and other such enclaves.  As mayor he has flattered that demographic by attending their birthday parties.  He has given out City trinkets, and promised more, if re-elected.

Just as the large field of candidates helped Trump win the Republican Primary, the large field of Democrats will help Pawlowski on Tuesday.  With seven candidates dividing up less than seven thousand primary votes,  his strategy will probably prevail.

If he does win,  Allentown may well have it's first Republican mayor in almost two decades come November.  Chances are that Pawlowski will be indicted before the general election.  Although, still eligible for office until and unless convicted,  such negative publicity could propel the Republican candidate to victory.

ADDENDUM: In his post today, Bernie O'Hare tries to make a case that I have been absent from this election,  and as an opposer of the little people, that he so nobly champions.  Bernie thinks of himself as a masterful lawyer, and his readers as a pliable jury.  In today's post,  he cloaks himself repeatedly with the word integrity.  In truth he is a manipulator, who endlessly tries to promote people he likes, and injure those that he doesn't.  His methodology is becoming transparent to more and more people.

  1. When one feels the need to pontificate on their on virtues while denigrating others it may be viewed as an indicator of real issues.

  2. scott@8:23, there was a lot of irony in bernie's piece on me. when i started this blog in 2007 and revealed some pawlowski character flaws, bernie defended pawlowski, and attacked me as having sour grapes. he mentions an elderly woman prosecuted for having a lawn sale, but omits that he learned about her at one of my SPEAK OUT meetings. those sort of omissions humor him. he has attacked me numerous times in recent months on his blog, and deletes all my response comments.

  3. Well, there goes the 'award-winning' blogger who lost his license to practice law again, sitting in judgement like he is God or something.

  4. I think that's an interesting concept you presented to vote for Ed and hope he gets indicted so the GOP can take over the Mayor's office.

Even if that would work out to fruition, a Republican mayor with a Democratic City Council would produce a lot of gridlock in government. But then, the government that governs least, governs the best. I like it.

  5. dave@9:36, it is not my intent to suggest that anybody vote for pawlowski in order to help the republican come november. beyond stating that i favor anybody over pawlowski in the primary, i have made no recommendations. in november i hope that it is a democrat other than pawlowski, vs whichever republican prevails tomorrow. i remain non-partisan

  6. I understand that. The premise is interesting as how things have worked out though and I don't see you favoring anyone :)

One would have thought that the US Attorney's office here would have reached a consensus by now if they had the evidence to convict Pawlowski. It seems there is some evidence, though what has leaked into the public, but the feds don't like to issue indictments unless the case is pretty tight. Since they haven't and it's been nearly two years, tells me they don't have the goods on him for a convictions. The cloud is there however, and it's hanging over the Democrats big time.

I'm not a big fan of Ed for any reason, but trying to take my GOP partisan hat off and look at the Democratic race objectivity, he's about the best of the lot of a pretty weak field. His main accomplishment is holding the line on taxes. They've all got lots of baggage, Ed has the most.

  7. I am not sure what the current deal is with Bernie. While I have not always agreed with him (or you Michael for that matter), our discourse has always remained professional/cordial. He's recently attacked me because I stated that of the existing DEM line up (referring to the contending 4) that I wouldn't spit on them if they were on fire.

While I admit this is a harsh statement, it embodies my anger, frustration and overall feelings toward these candidates.

I also stated that had the Dems come together in a united front and put one viable candidate against Ed instead of showboating 6 new contenders we might have had a better shot of unseating him. The reality is if Ed wins the D primary it's no one's fault but those 6.

Bernie has found that my opinions on these candidates and extreme dislike for them to be disrespectful (his word). I find that quite ironic coming from a guy who's built his entire following on being disrespectful. My point is that I am completely unsure what his issue is right now, maybe the races are getting to him? Regardless of the reason... Shark literally jumped.

  8. gina@1:00, bernie has been employing innuendo and distortion against me for months, because i dared comment that his disclaimer about morganelli was somewhat understated.. for example, today he claims that i was disparaging against iman trek. my post about him stated that i don't think that he was a victim of discrimination, but rather an iron clad entry procedure by a speaker with security concerns. although he declined, i invited iman to respond and elaborate on his POV. with eugene mcduffie, after being so upset by pawlowski, i did question his fitness for council. i look forward to seeing both iman and eugene, and don't anticipate any resentment from them about my posts.

  9. At least he didn't call you a racist, yet.

  10. I saw some of that. I am just not sure what I did to upset him so badly? I mean he literally doses out insults for breakfast daily - so why is my opinion about a crook, an opportunist, a career politician and a rubber stamper so insulting to him? *shrug*

  11. I have been bemused that so many people who supported so steadfastly HRC for President last fall are now so outraged about the issue of integrity in government. Whatever ethical offenses which may or may not have have been committed by the Mayor and his Administration, they are very minor compared with the gross corruption of HRC and the Clinton Global Initiative.

  12. This used to be one of just a few blogs I read every day because it always had something to say. Now it includes the kinds of petty rivalries normally found in middle school hallways. That's a shame. At least some great history posts would be welcome.

  13. At least Bernie O'Hare has not sent the Secret Service after Mr. Molovinsky like he did with me several years ago. Or at least not yet, that is. Wouldn't THAT be ironic, then, if the Secret Service agents conclude the REAL danger to society is none other than the Lehigh Valley's new undisputed heavyweight champion of hate blogging, himself?!
